I used Jennifer for a bankruptcy case. I couldn't be happier with the job she did. She was incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and responsive. In addition to her extensive technical knowledge, she was wonderfully helpful navigating the frustrations that come with the process. She was friendly, easy to work with, and always kept me well informed. I give her my highest recommendation.

A referral service connected me with Jennifer's firm. A paralegal contacted me soon after, gathered background information, and set up my consultation. Jennifer sorted out the key facts of my case and gave me a clear plan for the way ahead. After reviewing my backup material, she engaged the other party and secured a settlement for the full amount I was shooting for. She was efficient, knowledgeable of the law, and treated me like a valuable client even though it wasn't a huge case.

Hired Mr. Arellano for employment discrimination case. He was aggressive with the high-profile employer and never backed down when faced with opposition. Mr. Arellano was able to settle my case for a lump sum payment. Friendly, professional staff! Always returned my calls and emails immediately.

I hired Attorney Arellano after being sued by another person who claimed that I owed her money. This allegation was not true and there was absolutely no paperwork to show I borrowed any money. I found Attorney Arellano knowledgeable, professional, and able to navigate through the production of documents. The other side eventually backed down when faced with a professional litigator. Do not believe the false information in the newspapers and on this website; these were people should have been prosecuted after trying to ruin his reputation. I have recommended Attorney Arellano to my friends and they have been more than satisfied with his work.

When I became a third party in a very contentious law suit involving multiple individuals, easements, and claims of fraud, I was overwhelmed and often felt that I was being viewed as the easy solution to a problem I did not cause. Although I had retained another attorney, it soon became apparent that I needed an attorney who was well versed in real estate law and was a skilled litigator. After much research and with the help of another attorney, I found and retained Teresa. From the onset, she proved herself to be a compassionate, knowledgeable, thorough, and skillful attorney. She was tenacious in her search for documents ( my title insurance policy, old deeds, surveys) which ultimately resulted in a favorable outcome for me. This case was complicated and required expertise in not only real estate laws, but also required the ability to negotiate with multiple attorneys on multiple issues. Needless to say, Teresa was able to successfully navigate through all the aspects of this case. What was impressive was her ability to keep me informed of all the events and explaining the rationale behind the legal issues. Throughout this all, she was patient and kind to me when my emotions got the best of me. I would highly recommend her. She is a super attorney and someone you would definitely want to have on your side.

Teresa provided fantastic service in the formation of our LLC. She was pleasant to deal with from start to finish, and was prompt and knowledgeable. Also, the cost was very fair. We contacted her based on a referral from our CPA, and are very glad we did so.

I hired Jeanne to help me with a complex business litigation matter and she made what would have been a very time consuming and stressful process workable. By this I mean that I was able to continue to handle my other business matters while the litigation was winding its way to a conclusion. She was very effective in dealing with opposing counsel. Her written and verbal communication with myself and opposing counsel was always excellent. I couldn't have said things in a clearer or more effective manner. The end result was the best result I could have hoped for under the circumstances.

Attorney Jeanne Armstrong represented my interest in the extremely convoluted and contentious process of settling my father's estate. Although six other attorneys and firms were involved, Attorney Armstrong and her firm were the only ones aware of the statute that was the actual turning point of the process. As a result of her knowledge and legal skills, two of my sisters and I received substantially better settlements than had been proposed. Attorney Armstrong worked diligently for me, often late into the night, over weekends, and on holidays. She was easy to reach and returned every phone call, email, and text message extremely promptly. My ideas and opinions were welcomed , and she extended careful consideration to them. Over the past fifty years, I've used the services of several different attorneys. None equaled Attorney Armstrong in knowledge, dedication, communication, or consideration.

I had a business in Illinois and sold it. The contract was a pay back over 15 years. The buyer filled Bankruptcy with an outstanding balance due to me. I retired after the sale and moved to Northwestern Wisconsin. I tried to find a lawyer to help me with no luck in Illinois or were not interested. I found by luck, Jeffery P. Phillips with Fuhrman & Dodge, S.C. in Middleton Wisconsin. I talked to Mr. Phillips and explained my problem, sent him some info an he said he woud get back to me within a few days. He called me back and said he would be my Attorney within about five (5) months my case was settled and I was happy with the outcome. Mr. Phillips is a very detailed, thoughtful and hard working Attorney whom I would recommend to all who need an excellent Attorney. I

I have had an ongoing workers comp claim going for over a year now, the insurance company sent me to a very well known (and not in a good way) IME. His report was grossly wrong and I was so afraid of what would happen next. I called Lisa, who was already familiar with this doctor from Nashville that conducted the exam, and she was nothing short of amazing. She listened, she took notes, she showed empathy, she remembered who I was when I called back (I’ve become familiar with this not being the norm through all of this), she had a plan. She gave me hope. If I need to proceed, Lisa will be my first phone call. Thank you! Justine Semo

I have used Chris Dodge for various legal issues for over twenty years, both personally and on business matters relating to our business, Barnes, Inc. I have found Chris to always be professional and thorough in the dealings we have had with him, namely collections, litigation, personal injury, general business matters, contract writing, property transactions and trademark and patent work. Chris has always been extremely fair in his billing, and transparent in his recommendations of whether or not he thought we were on firm ground with regards to legal standing with our goals and strategies. In addition, both my staff and I have always felt Chris gave us legal advice that was in our best interest, not his or his firms in an attempt to increase his billings. I have always felt that he cared first and foremost that we received the best results possible. It goes without saying that I was not always happy with his advice, But knew that it was given with our best interests in mind. I can ask for nothing more from a professional advisor than to be a partner who puts our interests first. Mark , President/CEO, Barnes, Inc.

My husband and I worked with Christopher Dodge from the Fuhrman and Dodge law firm on a very complex and multifaceted real estate case. We found him and his staff to be smart and hard-working. Christopher and his team were always compassionate and considerate during this stressful time. They allowed us to work on parts of the case that we could easily do. We answered interrogatory questions and developed interrogatory questions for the defendants. Due to this our bill was reduced and we were very happy. With Christopher and his expertise we were able to get a very good settlement without going through a very long, drawn out and expensive court case. As an attorney he worked collaboratively and cooperatively with the co-plaintiffs attorneys. We were very happy with both him and his team and highly recommend them

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
