I was told to get a lawyer by three staffs of the county jail house because of the severity of my case. I researched through the internet and came across a few but the moment i spoke to Andrew i knew he was the man who could get me out of my troubles He was very professional from the first day i called him to represent me in a case to the last day of my trial. He kept on encouraging me to hold and and fight the case, he told me he was ready to fight my case to my satisfaction. Even though it took more than a year, he kept encouraging me to hold on. He advised me not to rush to accept anything the DA throws at me just because i was desperate. True to his words, he was able to get the case reduced substantially. l was facing jail time, 12 months suspension of driving privileges, $2500 court fines and a whole lot of other things. He was able to beat the case to just $250 court fines. Even when the case was pending in court for more than a year, he kept on checking on me to see how i was doing. He is a good man and very professional

Hiring Andrew Taylor as my attorney was the best decision I made when filing for divorce. My case was complicated, including numerous filings and hearings leading to a multi-day trial related to my divorce, child custody and support. He also handled my J&DR Court hearings to secure a Protective Order for my children and I. Andrew knows the law thoroughly and his experience in the courtroom meant he gave me very sound advice. After trying diligently to settle with the other side, it became clear we would have to go to trial. This meant months strategically prioritizing and timing the work on discovery, depositions, expert witnesses, coordination with the Guardian Ad Litem (GAL), minor children testifying to the judge in chambers, and supplementary legal negotiations. Andrew and his paralegal, Shannon, expertly managed all of this. They are truly good people and a delightful team: I trust them implicitly. Prior to my divorce trial, I presented Andrew with a 20-point list of what I wanted the judge to grant me. Andrew’s deep understanding of what the court would be looking for with regard to the best interest of my children, quantifying asset/debt values, jurisdiction, case law, & how that lined up with the fact patterns in my case meant success: what the judge granted me after the trial was beyond my expectations. Even though I was the one who chose to file for divorce, it was daunting emotionally. Sometimes I just wanted to give up the fight for what I knew I was legally allowed. However, Andrew Taylor is a thoughtful, empathetic person who clearly sees his role as one to help families navigate when they are facing hard realities. Andrew did everything to advocate for me & my children. My family & I have gone from surviving to thriving; we now live in a peaceful, joyful home. I highly recommend you speak with Andrew Taylor; whether your case is a simple one or more complex, to make sure all issues are properly addressed now and for your future.

My experience with this firm was horrendous!! I was baited during the custody consultation to feel as though I had a very strong case for full custody. However, once I provided the required retainment for representation, I simply became a statistic. Andrew consistently pushed for me to just accept opposing party offers of every other weekend, simply because it is the "standard" and had no concern of really fighting for me or my daughter's 'equal' time together. The goal of this firm is to drag clients through the system as slowly as possible, for their maximum profit!.. I was astonished to find that for my final bill, which only included the prep and appearance for my 20 min support hearing that should have only involved plugging my income numbers into a worksheet, I had accumulated the same amount of changes, nearly $7000, as I had for all of the work in the months leading up to the custody hearing. Don't make my mistake....You'll probably fair just as well, if not better, representing yourself and saving your kid's college fund.

I was at a crossroad not knowing which way to go towards moving forward on my divorce.I had separated from my ex -wife and was living in an apartment and paying for a mortgage and all bills of a house that I was not living in.The ex-wife did not want to cooperate with me in trying to be reasonable with the mortgage and bills for the house.I had spoken with several attorneys and I started out with an attorney in the office with Ms.Allen and I was later referred to Mr.Erickson.I spoke to Mr.Erickson and explained my situation to him as to what was going on. He advised me that I could start the process and move forward or I could sit back and wait and do nothing and keep paying out money and letting the ex-wife play games.I waited for awhile and then I decided to move forward on the separation and divorce process.I called Mr.Erickson later and told hom let's start the process.Mr.Erickson took me from the beginning to the ending of the separation and divorce process.I was standing to take a big lost during the process. However, the only big loss I took was the ex-wife getting half of my retirement in which I had already knew that no matter which way the process went that shevwould be entitled to that after being married for 30+ years. On the other hand,Mr.Erickson was able to get other monies for me for bills, insurances, personal items and I also got a FATCHECK when the ex-wife brought me out for the house.Mr. Erickson was very knowledgeable and professional all along the way during my process.Granted that even though I had to pay my legal fees,I will say that Mr.Erickson was able to get me over $200,000 in my pocket when everything was said and done.Based on my situation from the beginning and in the middle it didn't seem like I would come out on top. I am very pleased with the outcome and have started a new journey in life thanks to Mr.Erickson.

We had 2 different cases that we needed legal support with in a short amount of time. Very happy to have met and worked with Mr Erickson who has made our legal processes very smooth, explaining and answering all of our questions, punctual with getting back to us and also has a great administrative team. I tend to be extremely picky about who I work with, as I am direct, don’t like wasting time and money, and have all around high standards. I appreciate his diligence work and results! Highly recommend the company and Mr Erickson!

My only regret with hiring Maryse Allen to represent me to handle some post-divorce issues is that I didn’t do it sooner. She has been knowledgeable, honest, and thorough. She initiated communication and always responded to my emails promptly. Ms Allen made sure I knew what to expect at every step, and I was confident she was working hard for my best outcome. I highly recommend her to anyone facing divorce, custody, or post-divorce issues.

I am so very happy to give Jason Hickman a five star review. I went to him for legal business counsel and his advice was exactly what I needed. He was very respectful, kind, patient with my questions, and reassuring. The advice was sound and I am just so grateful. This is my second experience using Compton Duling attorneys and if I need an attorney I will certainly go to them again. I recommend Jason Hickman completely.

Jason was extraordinarily helpful with our personal circumstance! He kept in touch with us every step of the way and made sure we understood throughly what was happening! Which is fantastic as previous lawyers had us confused with all the lawyer speak. Even when we had a bit of trouble with money, he offered to help us with our dues to him. Highly recommended!

We hired Jason Hickman for a real estate matter and he was terrible! In fact when it was all said and done, we had to hire another attorney because we were going to lose the house. The new attorney we hired said that he could see what Mr. Hickman was trying to do but it was not executed well. So it cost us another 6 thousand dollars! That is a lot of money! Of course I send him an email expressing my disappointment but have not heard back - not surprised! He was terrible!

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
