I hired Mr David Hudson to help me fight for custody of my granddaughters. My daughter passed away and I had had custody for approximately 2 yrs before their dad decided he wanted them. I went to Mr Hudson he explained everything to me and that it was gonna be hard for me to retain custody with me beginning the grandmother. But with David’s hard work we prevailed. I would recommend David as a lawyer to anyone who needs a honest hard working caring person.

Jim did an incredible job advocating and facilitating a successful conclusion. I interviewed a number of attorneys before hiring Jim and felt his experience was critical in my final decision. Jim was able to anticipate what was coming our way and advise accordingly.

I hired Siemens Family Law Group in Asheville, NC when I found myself facing an unexpected (and adversarial) divorce process. I specifically requested Jim Siemens, and I'm so glad I did. He is knowledgeable, responsive, and kind. He helped me get through this difficult process without compromising his integrity or mine. Jim's advice literally saved me from financial peril because it put me in a much better negotiating position. He had my back throughout the divorce mediation process. Both Jim and his assistant Dorothy were great to work with and I highly recommend this firm.

My sister and I hired Steve Grabenstein to represent us in litigation over our fathers estate. Steve and his team (Pat & Heather) were always responsive to our needs and request. They were always VERY prepared for each step in the case. I am not sure how my sister found Steve but I am very glad she did. Through Steve's representation and guidance we were able to settle the estate in our favor. Steve had our best interest in mind at every step of the process. He always advised us on how we could minimize our litigation cost rather then running the bill up in his favor.

Mr. Grabenstein was one of the most attentive, attorneys I have ever come into contact with. I only wish I could hire him for all my attorney needs. He gets the job done and does not waste any time in doing so. Extremely dependable, will step up and lead if need be, when the others may be slacking. Very pleasant, easy to reach, and has a great assistant you may speak to if he is busy, Pat. You will be very well pleased with them. He worked for me over a year on a difficult, and unusual case involving two other attorneys for him to keep track of. He is a credit to his profession

We worked the Carter Webb on our will and trust, which needed to be revised when we moved to North Carolina. He was recommended to us by another attorney. He is so cordial, so thorough, and so quick! Great sense of humor and great way of listening. Great advise on issues we hadn't confronted but should have thought about! Even more, great follow through and forward planning. We recommend him highly.

We came to Carter Webb as new clients and new residents of North Carolina. We wished to be educated in this state's styles and options for wills, trusts and related powers of attorney and health care directives. He provided excellent explanations of the alternatives and of the mechanisms. He was also a careful listener to our priorities. After discussion, he drafted the documents we requested, and revised them in accordance with our wishes. Signing was comfortably managed in his office. Throughout, Carter acted with thorough professionalism and responsiveness, providing the legal services we needed and earning our trust in the process.

"We hired Gregory Johnson for an encroachment/legal dispute. We searched for the best representation to get a highly stressful situation resolved. Greg came highly recommended by another attorney we consulted. He treated us with respect and handled our case professionally and economically. He knows real estate backward and forward and is an excellent litigator and mediator. His assistant Debbie Donnelly was also very responsive and helpful. We really appreciated his time and attention to our case. We are so thankful and he is the best!"

Hired him for an Expungement, $1000 and 2 years later has done nothing and won't respond in any form email, call, text, voicemail. I've seen him at the gym and he tells me to text him and he'll make it right!! I'm an ECU graduate Magna Cum Laude on May 5th 23. 7 years clean and sober on 5-8-24, I have turned my life around & need help & he has treated me horribly as like he cares less. I'm baffled that he has done absolutely nothing for me. He certainly isn't a Christian or a God fearing man that's for sure.

He just took my our money and washed his hands of us. I would not recommend this guy, he has zero conscience.

The team generally responded quickly to emails. I incurred late payment penalties (one month for one account, two months for the other) due to not being provided accurate payment projections despite providing all information to the firm in February. Ultimately, the filing felt unnecessarily stressful and rushed. Consultation with other firms to review those filings revealed errors and omissions which will require filing amended returns.

GMG provided invaluable help in resolving my tax return issues. I had a very complicated tax return involving estate and much more and I was getting late. I was suggested by a tax law firm to contact GMG and I am glad I did. Lynn Wilson was an absolute lifesaver, as she was knowledgeable and detail-oriented in her approach to my case. Her expertise and attention to detail was remarkable and I would highly recommend GMG and Lynn Wilson to anyone needing help with their taxes.

Heidi Stewart promised to help with an issue with my dad. It was time sensitive. She saw him once and talked to him one other time. On Friday she said she would see him Saturday. On Saturday she said she couldn’t see him because she needed to spend time with her family. She agreed to see him Sunday morning at 11:00 and then texted my wife (in another state) an hour before the appointment saying she couldn’t come and to call her next week. Today, Monday, she sent an e-mail saying her schedule would not allow her to see him and to find someone else. This is NOT the way to conduct business, especially with a lot on the line. I would never recommend someone with such a poor business ethic. I had paid her for the time she invested and was more than willing to pay for the rest had she done so

Heidi Stewart is very helpful & compassionate. I felt truly understood, as well as emotionally supported while seeking her help with a complex situation. She seems to have a very strong understanding of technical aspects of the law, and she is also sensitive to the emotional needs of her clients. I felt she was giving advice in a genuine effort to help me make the best decision for myself.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
