I Saira Mohammed was referred to Frank Trief September 2010. I was driving going home from the movies with my two sons Aidan (5yrs) & Adam (3yrs) in my 2009 Honda Odyssey. I was driving 20mph to 25mph between 12:30 to 1am that Saturday night into Sunday morning when i was t -bone at a right away green light intersection, which i had the green lights. The other vehicle which was an Audi was going 70mph t-bone me on to the traffic lights completely removing it and into the front of a residents house. my sons was dramatized, thank god they were seat belted properly. I was the only one sustained most of the injuries, i suffered a slip disc to my spine, torn ligaments to my left knee, pinch nerve to my upper neck and my left elbow. my sons was checked out at the emergency in good health, thank God. I made an appointment to go for consultation at Frank Trief and without any hesitation he was hired before the meeting was over. Frank Trief discussed every single little detail about what was going to be done and what were the steps to move forward with my case. All i submitted to him was photos, details of the accident how it happened and my insurance company which was Geico and still is. He referred me to highly recognized doctors and medical facilities that was trained to handle my situation and claims. He was very on point, professional and informative in every aspect of my case. He advised me to make sure and go to my therapy appointments, get all my X-rays and if needed surgery be sure to get it done. He told me that all my results will be forward to him and that will make our case stronger and will lead in the right direction. I never one day went to court when i was served documents from the other party, I emailed or faxed everyone as I received it to Frank and he told me not to worry everything is going accordingly. I placed my trust, confidence without any sort of hesitation. He made that part of my life stress free and with confidence I was able to continue my life with my sons and Frank dealt with all my legal problems without any complains and hassle to worry about. We won the case and i was very much satisfied and was compensated for my injuries. I will highly recommend Frank Trief because of his expertise, professionalism, and direct approach to every needed situation. God forbid a situation to happen to me in the future Frank Trief is just a phone call away, email or text message. My best regards to him on coming back to do what he's an excellent attorney. Best regards Saira

I was struck down by a car ~ 5 yrs. ago. As you can imagine that is a very difficult time in all respects. The doctor takes care of the medical, but Frank took care of the legal issues! He also helped calm my nerves which were so frayed. I did not know what to expect: a deposition? legal documents? He helped me through it all in a clear and calming manner. That's what you need in a lawyer. That's what he did.

Bill was recommended to me by my financial lawyer to advise me legally regarding my drawn out divorce. He has literally been the most supportive, available, reliable and knowledgeable resource during this very draining process. Divorce is already messy, but with Bill's help I was advocated for effectively and aggressively. He accepted my calls and personally went out of his way to represent me, even discussing legalities outside office hours when it was the only time available. He would go over paperwork with me on the phone and made sure I was covered in the final agreement drafted by the mediator. I cannot recommend him enough. Esp to single women. His prices are more than reasonable for the care and experience he has and gives. There are A LOT of lawyers who take advantage of women in the frail emotional state of their divorces and charge them exorbitant hourly fees for hardly any real advocacy or work done on their part. Esp in NYC. So do your research and keep your lawyer on a tight leash if you decide to not go with Bill. Every time you talk to your lawyer, keep track of the length of phone calls, meetings and keep a paper trail. That way, when it comes to final invoicing, you've got all the documentation to show how much he/she should be charging. I was overcharged by one such lawyer and wrote a review about him on Yelp. Keep costs up front and talked about each time you speak with your lawyer. It's not personal, it's business. You have to think of it as a game of chess, and leave your emotions at the door. Lawyers are not therapists so don't get your time with them confused with talking about anything other than legalities and your case. I truly hope you hire Bill though because he is absolutely a gem in the midst of a lot of greedy Wall Street wolves. Good luck and stay smart ladies. I know how tough divorce is, so keep your support system strong cuz you cannot do it on your own. Bill will be in your corner the whole time and keep putting those boxing gloves on you each time until you get the best settlement possible. A paralegal friend of mine told me, "Lacey, you will not get the settlement you want. No one gets the exact settlement they want. But you can walk away with the best one, and when it's drafted, take it".

Hired him for a divorce in 2021, it’s 2024. Months turned into Years of trying to call, email, and request my money back. I’ve never experienced this kind of behavior/treatment from an attorney, you hire lawyers when you need help and trust they’ll do their job. I live in another state as well so it’s quite impossible to know what my next steps to circumvent finalizing my divorce another way is. Nelson promised to take care of me. Nothing but a financial and emotional nightmare.

I had a family case which was dragged out in court for 18(!!!!) years , when I hired Mr. De La Cruz it was my lucky day! This lawyer is no joke. Very aggressive, yet professional. He was always on time, constantly in touch with me, I never had to leave more than one message, and he called me right back in a matter of few hours at most. He prepared me before each court appearance, listened all my concerns and dilemmas and give sharp, professional options or suggestions. I’m extremely happy that this “never ending “ case is finally over, and we won it after so many years! Of course the other side tried everything to drag it out even longer, but I had such an incredible “pit bull”, it’s literally what the other side called him, so they just settled. I’m very satisfied with Mr. De La Cruz’s services and absolutely can recommend him . He just the guy you need!

I’ll be totally honest with you guys I’ve never met a lawyer, that actually fought for his client as if it was his family member, or better yet as if he was fighting for his own freedom . This man is nothing short of amazing at his job & he definitely knows the law inside out . I wouldent recommend putting my money in anyone’s hands if it’s not Nelson de La Cruz . Not to mention he’s affordable & willing to work with you . At the time I first retained him I was incarcerated in federal jail on charges of racketeering conspiracy & extortion conspiracy held without bond . Within 30 days of Nelson bein my lawyer he was able to secure me a bail & get me back home to my family . Throughout the duration of the case Nelson’s communication with both me and my loved ones was always priority and we loved that about him . His knowledge and his delivery with what he brings to the table as an attorney makes him that much more valuable to you as his client & of course to your case furthermore, securing the BEST possible outcome . In conclusion with my criminal history bein very extensive & other factors ( such as evidence against me ) I did ultimately decide to pled guilty. But the fight did not stop there with Nelson . Through motions filed & countless hearings he was able to secure me a beyond favorable plea deal . I was facing a maximum of 40 years in prison, I ended up with a 2 year prison sentence & NO restitution ! I really can’t stop thanking Nelson De La Cruz I strongly recommend him to anyone fighting a criminal case .

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
