My ex-husband and I were introduced to Mary in january of 2017. At that time things were very rocky for the two of us and we were not agreeing on much. The demeanor and ease of Mary's mediation with both of our lawyers present was so calming and effective. We both left that session feeling as tho we wished we had went straight with mediation and chosen Mary from the beginning. In May of 2017 my ex and I decided that another mediation session was in our best interest. We contacted Mary and she was able to get us in right away. This session was very different than the first. It was just my ex and I with Mary no lawyers present at that time. She sat and listened to us ... presented us with what she heard and where we needed to go. It was the ideal situation in any custody/divorce matter. Calm, collected and easy. We settled in an hours time. She fairly charged us and promised to always be a resource to the two of us in the future if necessary. Fast forward to my settlement hearing ... I ran into her at the court house and was nervous and worried because my attorney was late. She gave me a hug told me how impressed she was by the coparenting my ex and I were doing and insured me that everything would be ok. She also said that she would represent me if need be. She is amazing!! I will always be grateful to her for helping us during this awkward and heart wrenching time. Would recommend to anyone!

Mary was fantastic in helping me get my daughter who was 6 years old at the time out of an extremely unsafe situation. Mary is smart, trustworthy, personable, tough and knows the law. She is great in the court room and it did not matter that I was a man trying to rescue my daughter, she cared about what was best for my daughter. Mary's experience and expertise helped change a little girls life. I will be forever grateful to her for all her hard work and am thankful every day when I look at my daughter who is safe, happy and is doing great. Thank you so much!!! Don :)

Chuck is a true advocate. His knowledge and expertise enable his client to make informed decisions prior to and during the litigation process. I have engaged Chuck 5-6 times over a 15 year period and remain very satisfied. He is one of the few attorneys I would recommend to a friend/associate.

For the record, I did not know Chuck until a few years ago when my Liability Insurance carrier recommended that I call him on what appeared to be a very sticky and costly legal matter. Chuck wrote a letter to the other party in the matter and literally made it go away. His approach was brilliant and decisive, and convinced the other side they had no case and it was over before it started. I was somewhat stunned and certainly very pleased. I am in the construction business and Chuck has since represented me on several occasions in matters ranging from workman's comp issues to legal contract disputes. In each case he has proven not only to be knowledgeable and competent, but also very pragmatic. I have found that he is focused on obtaining the best result for me rather than accumulating fees. I have dealt with a number of construction attorneys over my 33 years in business, and Chuck is head and shoulders the best. If you have a construction-related legal matter, this is the guy to call, period.

Mike was amazing and I exceeded my expectations for a respectable and organized attorney. He was smart, dependable and didn’t let anything slip through the cracks. He took the burden off of me and made me feel at ease in the entire process. Due to his organization, quick thinking, and experience we were able to meet my desired outcome for my case. I can’t thank him enough for what he has done for me! Thanks again mike! Nicole Bergman

There should have been a conflict of interest stated right off the bat in my case. I used to work for him. Haslem is an attorney that will lie & create false narratives about the opposing party. 6 years post divorce, he still hasn’t figured out how to read the messy JOD that he created. I can show where he threatens me every single holiday especially Christmas, my birthday and Mother’s Day. It’s time the judge sees what he and my ex are continuing to do. Haslem refused to turn over properties due me in our JOD so I had to sue for it 4 years later and finally got it. His assistant is as dishonest as he is. I’m sure Haslem doesn’t know she helped me get away from him when I used to work for him. He will promise you the moon, charge you quadruple for it and deliver pizza. If you want a very dirty divorce with no peace until your kids graduate- hire him. You’ll keep paying him too. If you want peace and put your children first-do not hire him. The sad thing is, my eldest now sees how dirty Haslem plays and the lies he and my ex make up. He doesn’t create a healthy environment for kids in a divorce at all.

Mark Haslem came to my rescue after I exploited an arrogant and pretentious lawyer from a large firm. Haslem helped me resolve a very contentious divorce with my former spouse, who tried anything and everything to cheat the system. As opposed to the big firm, Haslem fought hard on my behalf to attain a fair settlement and to protect my financial interests, which was not easy when facing someone with a personality disorder. I am very grateful for all his hard work and would recommend him to anyone.

Ms. Perry made so many self promoting promises and claims that I was confident at first. After she assured shed have my case thrown out in court. She never took a call even from jail her secretary said she doesnt ( do collect calls) Refused to meet with me even once. refused to ever take a call from my brother or my uncle or my spouse. Berated my uncle at court for calling the office so often. Didnt submit any of the evidence that my uncle and my spouse had to get themselves because she didnt have the time apparently. Never used the evidence. Didnt call the police officer that volunteered to testify on my behalf. Completely went to court with absolutely no evidence. no plan and even I thought I looked guilty after that redicuolous proceeding. It went from bad to worse. Then much to my surprise this attorney that said shed fight and fight hard for me tells me 10 min before court starts 4 months after our last meeting that I have 10 min to decide to cop a pkea or face 15 yes of PRISON. for a crime she knew I did not commit. It scarred me bad I took the plea knowing that sealed my fate I trusted her as my attorney. I did trust her and noone else did at all. Even another officer doubted her ability. well.I ended up going to prison for what she said never should have even got to court in the 1st place. I find out later her only specialty is in child custody and divorce. She advertises criminal defense.big huge difference. Then the final straw.Find out that theres a good chance she had a conflict of interest and never said a word. If your freedom and name is at risk I hope your much smarter than I was.

Unprofessional, incompetent, and a huge waste of money. This attorney never had a clue as to what was going on in regards to my case, and all my phone calls and meetings with her were spent repeating the same details to her over and over, which had already been documented and covered in paper format with her client intake questionnaire. I ended up completely compromising on basically all of the issues in our case and my ex ended up writing our divorce settlement for her in order for us to be divorced in a timely manner. Still was charged for her time in "writing it up." The day of my final hearing, she walked up to me confused and asked if I was her client. This was after meeting me in person twice, the last one occuring less than 2 weeks before the hearing. Also, right before the final hearing started, she ran off to make copies and when the judge and clerk arrived, they were baffled by her absence and we all had to wait for her to come back. Her delay in the proceedings of course were charged for. From a low income, single mom who is legally fully responsible for the finances of 2 children, take my word. Save your money. Hire someone competent.

She seems nice and knows the talk and walk; but she does slip and slid with the truth. Just beware if you make an agreement in mediation with her, because in front of the judge she changes what was agreed upon. I think this is her way. So, if she is your attorney and you don't mind her moving this way, she's good to hire.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
