From my first phone conversation with Tiffany I knew I was going to hire her. She is straight to the point and absolutely amazing at her job. It took less than 6 months from the time I hired her for my divorce to be finalized. She was exceptionally helpful since I am stationed overseas and was able to handle everything for me. She was always able to answer my questions and make sure I understood the whole process.

Attorney Bond listens, has a level temperament and has your back. She doesn’t bill excessively or create issues just to run up your bill. Age is easily accessible and responds to a call or email in a timely manner. I’ve worked in the legal field for 30+ years and highly recommended her as your attorney.

Cory was amazing to work with! He handled my situation very well ! I couldn’t have asked for better. He always treated me with complete respect and never judged me. He was a pleasure to have representing me. He got me the most desirable outcome possible for a pretty bad situation I was experiencing! I always felt like I was in good hands and he was going to fight as if it were for himself. He is extremely knowledgeable in his chosen craft and laws !! I would recommend Cory to anyone looking for a great attorney. Not only was he great in court, he was always very responsive and handled everything very quickly! 11 out 10 !!! Highly recommend!!!

I only have the highest of praise and gratitude for Corey McKenna. He was assigned to my son’s case as a public defender, and went above and beyond what we expected. The issues all evolved from my son’s long-time addictions. Corey worked hard with the district attorney’s office to get my son into a long-term rehab. Corey followed his case, kept in touch with me and my son throughout his three-month incarceration and six-month rehab. My son graduated from rehab after six months, a changed person. I am grateful for Corey’s professionalism, hard work, follow-up with us and his sincere caring for his clients. I feel like he had a part in saving his life. Dawn Doiron

Through unfortunate events, I had the opportunity to work with Corey on some very pressing matters with my freedom on the line. If anyone is actually reading this and wanting to know information that will help you make a decision choosing representation, I can only share this- He cares. I don’t have years and years of experience needing an attorney. While seeking representation, I immediately felt he had my back and showed me empathy. Within the limits of the law and also what’s right vs wrong, Corey consistently treated me with dignity and respect while also giving me the facts without fluffing things up or pushing me in a direction that would further his career. There are self-absorbed people that walk this earth just like there are self-absorbed attorneys that play “the game” as I would call it. Let’s face it, it’s all about money and control in the court system. I gave Corey five stars because he earned it. Whether you’re facing a slap on the wrist or severe consequences, I can assure you that using Corey and his firm, you will be just as fortunate as I was.

I found myself one day needing legal aid to defend myself against charges of domestic assault, represention for divorce, and shared custody of my 3.5 year old child. Jennifer was referred too me by a friend. I meet with Jen, and felt from the start she was someone I could put my future in her hands. Jen had her work cut out for her because my now ex- wife had put togather a case against me to bet all cases. My assault case was dissmissed. My fight for shared custody went thur all the typical paths that one parent may take when trying to prove to the courts that another parent is unfit to have shared custody.Which included my child seeing a counselor at the age of 4 and 5. During my fight for custody I had asked Jen to do something that is most often frowned upon by the courts. That was to have my child be put on the witness stand in front of the judge, Presiding over my custody and divorce case. Along with many other factors in this case I strongly believe that the meeting of my child and the Judge showed the court how wrong it would be, and how much it may affect the way this child's life may have turned out had my ex gotten what she wanted. Jennifer fought for Shared Primary Residence, and won this for myself and my daughter. My daughter is 14 now and remembers everything that took place during the 3 years it took to get this case resolved. She does great in school. And has been playing basketball year round for 4 years now, she is in the 8th grade her grades are great, also does track. She has a life that would not be as it is had I not had a Lawyer that went the distance with every issue she could to prove the truth and get all the facts out for every one involved in my case too see. In the end I would not ever want to go through that mess again but if ever I had to I would want Jennifer Ferguson, to be repenting me in court. I always recommend Att. Ferguson to any one needing the best. I could never repay her for what she did for myself and my daughter. Like most Attorneys probably are she dosen't like to be personal with a client, but I know she has a heart of gold, and once in awhile she shows that great smile she try's to hide while doing her Job.

I met with a couple of lawyers prior to hiring Jennifer to handle my motion to modify case for my divorce judgment. Unlike the other attorneys, Jennifer offered candid advice during our first meeting and described to me what my options were and the best case scenario could be. She gave honest, frank, and realistic advice and feedback during the entire process and was very easy to work with. On several occasions the defendant in the case attempted to steer mediation discussions off topic and Jennifer turned the conversation back to the pertinent issues. If you are looking for no nonsense, honest, and thorough counsel, I would highly recommend Jennifer Ferguson from Fales and Fales.

Pamela Holmes and her amazing team did an incredible job of representing my minor son and me through extraordinary circumstances. She was a consummate professional, excellent communicator (with both my younger son and me), and tireless partner and advocate for us as we endeavored to negotiate our complicated family law situation thru the family court system in Cumberland County Maine. Pamela has integrity. She is an outstanding and creative problem solver, collaborator, caring, and compassionate. She is very well regarded by her peers which made the process of finding other pros needed through our time together easier. I received a call at my place of employment from an employee of this company and I left my shift in tears. I haven’t been spoken to in such a demeaning and belittling way in some time- that is why I am writing. I was schooled by this person about how to run a business and that not answering phones will be cause for people to look elsewhere. While I whole heartedly agree with the principle, it does not take into account that a person showing up to their job and who makes no company-wide decisions - is not an appropriate contact to put down (let alone harass). I work very hard and despite the insinuation of this person, I am not stupid; I simply have no control of staffing or volume of calls. This is not the first person I’ve encountered from this firm that has exhibited a concerning moral compass. I’m cheering everyone on to be represented adequately and fairly- so I’m not writing this to express hatred (we all have our moments, me included). I just want to share my personal experience as I know that those seeking legal advice and representation want to feel informed and secure in their endeavors.

I retained Mr Parkinson to advise and represent our interests in an immediate impending zone change as well as a proposed "residential conversion" project that we were opposed to. He was no help on the zone change - it quickly passed. Even with 3 months to prep for the planning board, over the process of two lengthy meetings, we lost there too. At the ZBA, his arguments were so completely ignored we didn't get 5 minutes of debate. Denied. And still I believed. I trusted that at court we would prevail, knowing municipal committees to be largely untrained volunteers, not sophisticated in nuanced land use laws. I still thought I had the finest land use lawyer in the area, dismissing our losses as expected under the circumstances. He continuously reassured me that we had "many fine points of law" to work with... I believed in his skill and professionalism right up to the moment , without provocation or adequate explanation, after 14 months and $30K, with one complaint filed and one on the horizon, the clock ticking away towards our 80B brief deadline, he demanded to quit. I was dumbfounded.

I'm a life long resident of Lewiston Auburn Maine, and Lynn Ward was assigned my case regarding an illegal eviction because my Landlord had the nurve to try and force an illegal eviction on to me when I am on Disability with serious health conditions from serious injuries, including added stress from another serious issue. My Landlord has had a Sherriff deliver me an eviction notice because I reported issues to City Code enforcement that were being purposely ignored and I am obviously being discriminated against by my Landlord and the Management here, Lynn Ward has told me that she cares very much for people of Maine with disabilities and she considers herself to be highly qualified yet she has advised me to just move out of my apartment here when I am not doing anything illegal or wrong? And that is unacceptable and is in violation with the Maine Disability Rights act, I have always paid my rent and also it's another violation because of the Covid 19. Therefore I would not recommend this attorney to anyone. And she then also told me that nobody else would represent me at Pine tree legal. In my opinion this Lawyer was totally unprofessional and a disappointment to the Maine people on Disability.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
