Sue Hansen and her team were gentle, professional, efficient, and truly caring as I went through the divorce process. The Commissioner conducting my final hearing stated, “this is not a woman state, this is not a man state, this IS a kid state.” Sue and her team exuded that very important piece into all of our meetings. The level of hurt I had behind the reason for the divorce impacting my children was alleviated as best as possible through the mediation process. Excellent guidance was provided in all components of this situation. Sue and her staff were exemplary and compassionate while still aiding me through the divorce system itself. I was told by multiple people, “it will get better.” With the help of Sue, she was a big factor in making that advice true. You will not regret the help of Sue, especially if you have children.

As a client (who is also a lawyer), I was extremely impressed by Sue's skill in handling my divorce and her professionalism in the courtroom. Just as important was the emphasis she placed on meeting the needs of my children during divorce and reducing conflict for their sake.

Susan Hansen came highly recommended to me, and I can appreciate why. I was going through a difficult divorce, including considerable disputes over family assets, child placement and future monies. Sue Hansen is an excellent lawyer. She possesses all the skills one would want in a lawyer, including the ability to analyse small details, a clear communication style, and a superior level of frankness/trust. But these are not the qualities that set her apart. Sue Hansen posseses a breadth of experience that allows her to see beyond the immediate situation; she has the ability to quickly establish a context. Sue asked me to step back and re-frame my situation. Sue wanted me to 'not live in reaction to,' but rather to focus on constructing a better future for both myself and my children. After a few meetings, she was able to understand my ex spouse's motivations and approach. Sue was quick to adjust our plan when it became apparent that we were reaching a roadblock. She was continiously working to keep the process moving forward. Sue was also willing to not budge on factors that I considered to be of the highest priority; I greatly valued her steadfastness. Sue Hansen possesses this incredible gift of being comforting, but also firm with her clients. She helps her clients see what is best for all members involved. She not only was working on negotiating with my ex spouse and her legal team, but just as importantly, Sue was helping me to negotiate with my various selves-- the emotional, the analytical, the defiant, the uncertain. She helped me stay on course and never did I feel like I was involved in a hopeless battle of wills. Her philosophical approach is matched only by her outstanding strategic mind. Despite numerous challenges, Sue was able to help formulate a final agreement that was livable, fair and put my children in the best position possible. I am stepping away from one of my most heartfelt tragedies with a sense of hope for my own future and for my children. I do not believe this conclusion would have been possible with any lawyer other than Sue Hansen.

I hired Greg Hildebrand as my lawyer when my husband filed for divorce. I had done significant research and spoke with other lawyers before deciding. My husband has a complicated pension through the City of Milwaukee that required expertise that not every lawyer has. I chose Greg for his professionalism, knowledge, skill and mediator background. The mediator background was important to me to be able to make this process as amicable and painless as possible, while still having someone looking out for my best interests. While my situation did not end in divorce, but rather reconciliation, I feel it is important to leave a review. Greg and his team did not disappoint and exceeded my expectations! They were very responsive to emails and questions. They were honest and compassionate regarding the process and decisions that needed to be made. I never felt pressured or unimportant. I will always be grateful to Greg and his team for being there when I needed and will not hesitate to recommend him in the future.

Josh gave great detail to all of the questions that I had about my worker’s compensation. I was surprised how helpful he could be in my situation, as I thought it was a hopeless case. The fact that I got to hear his voice reassuring me with my questions, really put my mind at ease. I would definitely recommend him again.

I had a great outcome in my divorce, largely because I was represented by Greg Hildebrand. It was not a collaborative divorce as this attorney is known for, but traditional position based negotiation. I spoke to several reputable lawyers but I hired this one because he had the most well thought out strategy, especially when it came to child related issues. I got a better than expected outcome, including the placement schedule I wanted, and the process was as easy as it could be under the circumstances. Greg convinced the other side that taking our settlement offer was in their own best interests, but I always knew if we did end up in court I would be in good hands. I would recommend him to anybody, especially anyone with children, and in fact I have already done so.

Greg made navigating a divorce much more comfortable. He was always respectful of my perspective and was patient with my questions, concerns and sporadic emotions during this difficult time. He made sure I understood all aspects of the journey, and had my best interests in the forefront at all times. I knew I could trust his expertise and all recommendations provided. He worked hard to make the collaborative process work for me and I would highly recommend him to any of my friends or family. I had the most solid representation I could have!

I am immensely grateful for Greg. My divorce was prolonged and ended in court. Throughout it, Greg was open in communication, articulate in thought and deed, and excellent in explanations of the process and options for me. He successfully helped me obtain the placement schedule that I desired for my kids. And he considered the best financial solutions. I strongly recommend Greg!

As a guardian ad litem he does a poor job of advocating for the children within the family system and not assigning his own set of morals and values to the case. He did an excellent job of perpetuating my abuse within the legal system. It was obvious he is not trained in trauma informed practice, nor child development. Once Atty Alioto was involved in my divorce case a good old boys' club of misogynists formed to vilify me for my sexual identity. It is my firm belief that atty Alioto should not be acting as a guardian ad litem.

I hire ms. Bailey because I have reason to believe that my employer was discriminating against me for using FMLA leave and still believe so. I was Charged $300 just for the consultation. I was told I had to make an immediate decision as to weather or not to hire her. I was told I would not be Charged for such insignificant things as reading emails or phone calls, And that I could make payments of $100 a month for up to a Year.I was charged $1000 for a 3 page form letter to my employer. Like that really took hours? Then They started to charge me by the 10th of an hour for every little correspondence exactly what she said she would not do. $30 to read a 3 sentence Email? $118 for 10 minute phone call $29.50 to save and forward a file That took 3 or4 clicks of the mouse button. $29.50 for for a 1.5 minute phone call. $29.50 for another 2 sentence email. and on and on more worried about squeezing every dollar they could out me than representing me, to the point that I could no longer continue with a viable case. To make matters worse it seams that $100 a month payments that she said would be fine was not. Nola Cross Law firm began to immediately harass for the entire amount. Which had ballooned to almost $2000. Well I got things payed down to $454 dollars when I get a notice from collection associates saying I owe $720 .What kind of math is that! So now I have to File a complaint with the state bar and file for arbitration. So take my advice and never trust your employment concerns to The Cross Law firm or Danielle Bailey. They are only in it for the money and do not care about the client!

My dad and I had some issues we wanted to resolve. We hired Michael to assist us. I sent him a list of things I wanted to address, and after our 3 hour call, he ended up sending us his decision via email. I felt like none of my issues I asked him to address were even discussed in the email, and furthermore, it seemed like he pretended I didn't even ask those. I called him up to inquire about that, and right away he said that we would have to pay him more money and then hung up. Michael was of no use for us, we wasted our money and time. Michael seems like the kind of lawyer that just wants to take your money and not really provide any value, I recommend you find someone else.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
