I have the best experience working with Bay Legal. I was running into a real estate issue and wanted to get my deposit back. Bay Legal sent a very well written notice to the other party, and the other party promptly compiled and returned deposit within few hours. Bay Legal understood very all the documents I sent them, and quickly started working on my case. Thanks.

Stepehen has been a great resource for our companies since he successfully represented us in a partnership dispute in he late 90s. He's always available and extremely knowledgeable in his field(s).

Steve Gerrish was exactly the guy I needed when I negotiated my employment contract at the sale of my company. He had a framework of reasonable and customary terms, but he was completely open to my idiosyncratic preferences. I may have imagined it, but I felt that he absolutely understood what I wanted to accomplish, and (conversely) what I did not care about at all. He was clear and responsive when I was drafting and negotiating the contract, and he was ready and alert when the provisions were unexpectedly triggered.

He represented me in a trial-like arbitration setting in 2000. He was well prepared and did an excellent job presenting a complex case. We prevailed on every count and were awarded our fees. Since then he has become my adviser on various partnership and HR matters. He is generous with his time, offers concise, practical answers and is very fair when it comes to billing. Steve has a great deal of personal integrity. Ethical behavior comes naturally to him. His advice has helped me avoid numerous problems over the years.

Moon Law went above and beyond even my highest expectations. They are knowledgeable, professional, and hard-working, and also easy and pleasant to work with. If I could rate them 10 stars, I would. If you need a lawyer, I definitely recommend calling Chris and Kevin.

If you have any kind of personal injury claim in California, individually or as part of a class, you need to hire Chris and Kevin Moon. It's that simple. As a business and employment litigation attorney for both plaintiffs and defendants with more than 70 jury trials under my belt, I know the difference between "litigators" and real trial attorneys. The former are all too common in our profession, adept only at pushing paper, filing motions, and acting like keyboard warriors. But when cases fail to settle and trial looms, those kinds of lawyers find themselves staring into an abyss. They then either fold by unfairly compromising their client's case to avoid exposing their lack of trial experience, or stumble through trial with disastrous consequences. Real trial lawyers, on the other hand, can take any case to the mat and win. They don't bluff, because they don't need to. Not only does this achieve better settlements for their clients, but if the case cannot settle these trial lawyers actually win. Chris and Kevin Moon are both real trial lawyers, and excellent ones at that. They are both tenacious, brilliant and powerfully effective. I know this because I have worked with them both, and have seen their skill and dedication first-hand. Whenever someone calls me with a personal injury matter, I immediately refer them to Chris and Kevin. Even more, they are the lawyers I would want to represent me if I was ever injured. If you are potential client, call them! If you are a defendant on the other side of a case from them, be afraid. Be VERY afraid.

I have worked with Chris Moon for many years and he always given me amazing legal advice. Most recently, Chris helped me with a thorny legal issue. After a short consultation, the matter was resolved relatively quickly, which I really appreciated. The Moon brothers are extremely smart and easy to talk to, which is why I have referred many family and friends to them.

I initially hired George to help review my MSA, but then, due to circumstances beyond our control, the mediation process went pear shaped, and I had to retain George to renegotiate a deal. We succeeded in negotiating a satisfactory compromise, and for that I am very very grateful.

Don't usually post reviews, but George is an exception. I had a mostly amicable divorce situation, and wanted to keep legal costs down by filing my own paperwork. I had an initial consultation with George where he listened to my story and headed me in the right legal/paperwork direction. I did most of my own filings, but the final paperwork is quite mysterious and tricky. Not wanting to drag things out by filing something incorrectly, I again scheduled time with George to help make sure I had the correct forms and had them filled out correctly.....I did not. With about 35 minutes of his time - and he only charged me for this amount of time, not an entire hour as some lawyers do - I had everything ready for final filing. I definitely recommend George to help you handle your divorce - no matter how you end up dealing with things. He is very calming, understanding, honest, and extremely helpful.....and a very nice man!

The divorce process is nasty, gross, and beyond emotional. Lydia's hard work, persistence, expertise, understanding, and kindness got me through. She's is extremely detail oriented and will not miss a beat. My ex put me thru the ringer and would have gotten away w unscrupulous things if it weren't for Lydia. She worked closely w my divorce financial consultant (Jason Crowley of DCP....also a must have) and came up w the best possible outcomes. I feel like I 'won' my divorce (if there is such a thing). Thank god I had her!

I was recommended to Jon by a friend in seek of a lawyer who could help me establish my business partnership. It was very important for me to be represented by someone who understood the tone of terms I was looking to create in the contract. I wanted to be represented well and also keep a peaceful negotiation between my future business partner and I. Jon was amazing in hearing my concerns and providing the right steps, guidance and legal stance for me to move forward confidently and propose my terms for the business partnership. He found a lot of loop holes in our partnership agreement that would have greatly worked against me and was able to provide the solution. He explained to me how everything works so that I could understand for myself and was empowered in my position. I am very grateful for Jon because without him, I would have been committing to an unfavorable situation. With him, I gained confidence and security as a business woman. I will continue to use him in my future endeavors and have been recommending him to friends and family!

A top notch law firm offering superior levels of insight, acumen, and service. The lawyers are excellent and the resources available to them equally so. Their connection to government regulatory bodies is top notch, and the litigation department is what you would want for a “bet the company” litigation. A wise pick for start ups and more substantial companies.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
