Rideout Law was exceptional during my divorce proceedings. The front office always answers and forwards the info or questions promptly. The paralegal and attorney were diligent advisable and helpful in requesting and filing the proper paper work. Both Juliana and Steve Eckhardt, helped guide me through what can be difficult/impossible alone and made sure the divorce proceeded well with the best interest for all parties involved including the children. Help them help you!

We worked with Patricia Lenzner over the course of the last three years on a very complicated family case. Ms. Lenzner was our saving grace in this case. She immersed herself fully in every aspect of our case, and by final trial time knew it just as well as we did. Her attention to detail is unmatched, and made all the difference in our very convoluted situation. She was quick, thoughtful, incredibly intelligent, and completely honest at every twist and turn. She has a complete and thorough understanding of everything that goes on in the family court system, and is very forthcoming about what can and can’t be done. She works harder than any attorney I have ever met, and I would give her more stars if Google would let me.

My husband was suffering with mental illness, and had been diagnosed with dementia on top of that. He was a brilliant man, and at this time of his life, had taken action to meet with this lawyer( Patricia Lenzner, Owens & Perkins) - regarding "divorce" when we had an argument (he had totaled a car, gave me his license, and then - dementia and memory loss - wanted it back a month later, and I refused to give it to him). He actually filed and gave a deposit, then changed his mind 2 days later. 48 hours. This dishonest attorney, went ahead and filed anyway, after he had cancelled - causing distress to both my husband and me, as well as significant financial loss. I can only surmise, she wanted her money, rather than doing the right thing. When she called me to tell me, I asked "how can you in good conscience do this, if he's been diagnosed with two mental imbalances, bipolar one and dementia"? Facts regarding his health did not matter to her. He suffered, tremendously, and so did our family. He recently passed on. I have intended to write this honest review, to warn good people to seek counsel elsewhere.

As a prior social worker, I know that Michelle is truly in this profession to help and empower individuals and families, considering her background as a women’s shelter director in the past. As a couple and family therapist, I see Michelle as a trusted partner because she helps couples and parents with kids make informed and sound decisions about something as impactful as divorce. Her Collaborative Divorce process makes a painful course of life much less painful and much less costly. Highly recommend!

I selected this law firm solely based on convenience and lack of research, my fault. Their staff is very friendly and pleasant to deal with; I will give them that. However, as my attorney, Brice was not a good fit for my case. My case involved one minor child. The goal was to have the ability to move out of state with my child. Brice had ample information and time to prepare a rock solid case on my behalf. Well, he did not do that. He went into court very unprepared, had a very sloppy and weak cross examination. He failed to mention very pertinent details involving my child and her father. Didn’t highlight the benefits for the move. I could go on and on, but ultimately I was highly disappointed with Brice’s service and out 30k. Do your research before selecting any firm!

As a man who recently went through a divorce, I wanted to take the time to write a review for my divorce attorney. This was not an easy process and it required a lot of patience and understanding from all parties involved. But thanks to my attorney's wisdom and intelligence, the process was handled effectively and quickly. This is my first stop for a prenup.

I have been working with Family Law Attorney, Tali Collins, for 2 years, and she is by far the best attorney that I have worked with for ongoing family law litigation. She is very approachable, knows her legal material, is detail- orientated, has an amazing memory, knows lots of helpful resources and her fees are very reasonable. I have worked with many attorneys who have similar skills, but want you to hire them and are not great with working with the client that wants to self represent. Because I don't have the financial resources for a retainer, Ms. Collins has worked with me in preparing legal documents, preparing for hearings, and organizing and finding exhibits. She knows what individual judges want, so I feel like I am ahead of the game and know what to expect and how to prepare when I go to the hearing. Recently, Tali Collins helped me prepare for my latest Parenting Time Modification Hearing and I feel more prepared than I did when I hired an attorney to represent me at the last one, and it saved me thousands of dollars. Ms. Collins knows all aspects of family law and I don't think I could have worked with anyone who could prepare me as much as she has. I am so grateful that I found Ms. Collins, she has been an immense resource for me and has been so "spot on" with helping me in past hearings and litigation. This has been a great fit for me, and I even look forward to meeting with her. Ms. Collins is so motivating, knowledgeable and understanding, that when I walk away from meetings with her, I feel supported, empowered, recharged and ready to tackle my legal battles. Family law litigation is emotional, scary and overwhelming, but having a great family law attorney makes it so much more manageable.

Martin Galbut is an outstanding lawyer. He is highly experienced and personable, and put me at ease as we navigated a trying, lengthy, and complex litigation case. His advice was candid, pertinent, and valuable. Throughout the process, Martin’s demeanor was pleasant and upbeat. He guided me through the complex details and educated me in ways of “the law” with success-oriented strategies. His polished direction and leadership were superlative. Mr. Galbut and his accomplished team were instrumental in winning this challenging case. Attorney Gottfried is very dedicated and always provides her clients representation to the fullest extent. She is very professional as her staff is as well. She is definitely someone you would want fighting for you, definitely someone you would want in your corner. My children were in an abusive environment and living with their father. I have been fighting in the courts for three years to get them back. I have had numerous Attorneys. Not one of them represented my position the way Attorney Gottfried did. Not one of them fought for the Justice that my children deserved the way Attorney Gottfried did. After Three years of fighting Attorney Gottfried got my children returned to me with having sole legal and physical custody. My children and I can finally have closure. I will be forever grateful for all the time, all the effort, and all the dedication that Attorney Gottfried gave to myself and my children.

Alona is phenomenal. She represented my husband, Damian, recently in a family Court case for my step children and I'm so thankful for the amazing work Alona did. She listened to the concerns and issues Damian presented, she did a wonderful job and assisted him with being awarded with more than he wanted. With Alona my husband finally got the justice he deserved. I can tell that Alona has a passion for justice and righteousness. I agree that mediation is always best but in this case it wasn't an option. I'm happy that my step children will be in a loving, peaceful home to enjoy their childhood. Thank you so much Alona, you're great and you have made this long journey come to a happy ending. Alona is the way to go if you need help. She is highly recommended by my family and two other colleagues I work with that have used her services, Katie and Veronica.

I was inadvertently given Alona, after coming to the agency for another attorney to help with a divorce in 2008. I was not happy about the change and was told she was competent. During the 4 months of litigation and more than $60k on legal fees, my husband at the time managed to throw all kinds of things her way for which she was unable to handle. He sold an airplanes, paid off big business accounts, and hid money for which he had no recompense. She was clearly in over her head. I was writing emails to tell her what to do. I was so overwhelmed without the advocacy that I actually went back to my husband and spend 3 years making a different plan. I then had leverage to get out without being cheated. I was so disappointed with Alona's ability to handle my husband and his lawyer. I would not recommend her for a divorce situation where the husband has tried to hide everything and throws nothing but paperwork at her to cause more and more expense without ever getting anywhere.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
