Maxine fought hard for me and won at every single milestone. She will aim for the things that are beneficial in the long run and not let you get stuck in the useless emotional drama that comes along in divorce. Highly collective & calm, professional, tactical and combative when needed. She had the strength to go and fight a case in another county with a top notch opposing attorney who unfortunately was a pathological liar with no ethics or character, driven solely by the pursuit of money who unsuccessfully tried to separate me from my son for almost 3 years by utilizing every loophole of the family law. I am grateful to Maxine and her assistant Leslie for the support they have provided and wish them the very best in their life!

Divorce was a very emotionally painful experience and I was often unable to make calm decisions on my own. She guided me through these situations with strength, calmness, and integrity at all times. Without her support, I would not have been able to overcome this difficult challenge. Because of her prompt responses and the steady stream of frank and calm advice you provided, I felt I could trust and accept whatever end result I got with her support. Before I hired her, it was difficult to trust my former attorney because he was slow to respond and seemed to be little more than a clerical messenger. Although I was not satisfied with the service I received from the former attorney, I was afraid of changing attorneys in the middle of the divorce process. But after meeting with her and interviewing, I immediately felt in my gut that this was the right person for the job and I am so glad I made the choice to change attorneys at that time. I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs solid help with family law.

First and foremost look no further. Doug and Cathy worked diligently to resolve a very complexed case. Cathy you’re the best and I can’t thank you enough. Cathy represented me and far exceeded my expectations. My case was a complicated child custody matter. Pinkham and Associates thank you for being in my corner. From start to finish the entire staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable during my most difficult and challenging times. I am pleased to share that we came out on top. Got what I wanted and some. At the end of the day I could not have done it without them. I would like to add so everyone has a better understanding their affordability, financially they worked with me as I didn’t have much. I did not have the funds but did everything I could and made it happen. Best decision ever. My results: Doug and Kathy paved the way for a bright future for my two young daughters and I. I will continue utilizing their services as needed moving forward. Thank you Doug, Cathy and staff.

Kate did my full estate planning package last year. Yesterday, I was at my yearly physical and the doctor asked if I had an advanced healthcare directive submitted through their portal. I did and, so she opened it and started to read it. She said " Oh- this is a good one. I see lots of these that don't cover the bases adequately. This one is really good!" Kate was great to work with, fair, and responsive to me and my husband and our needs. She's my family law firm now!

I've had the misfortune of dealing with Kelso never returned my phone calls or emails and to this date Kelso and a family member have behaved very mysterious and secretive still missing $ 17,000. Would not recommend this establishment to settle Trust.

DON’T listen to anything but this review: Everyone at K. Kelso law cares so much about each client, you’ll never need another attorney. Any negative review is clearly from somebody who can appreciate this new way of approaching legal services which will totally change your worldview and make you feel completely at home. Kate is the best thing that ever happened to me and her law firm is now family. Call them. Be a part of their movement.

My divorce case was a horrible one, and I retained Maxine from 2021 til now, 2023 and I am so glad that I found Maxine, she is an amazing attorney, she is tough and to the point when dealing with the other attorney, I went through lots of difficult time with my ex and Maxine always there to give me good advice and she's always trying to protect my right. Maxine is very knowledgeable of what she does as a family law attorney, she's very efficient and honest, we have good communication via email, and she's always responds in a timely manner. My case is finally closed, and I finally received what I wanted from my divorce THANKS to Maxine!!! God forbid, if I ever have to go through divorce again, who do I call? MAXINE HO!!!

I retained Maxine Ho as my attorney for a period of time between 2019 and 2020. Due to early mistakes on my part, my divorce case had turned complex and was challenging for just about any attorney to turn around. I was fortunate to have Maxine consider representing me given the circumstance. Maxine is a great attorney who is efficient, polite, honest and responds in a timely manner. She has the ability to apply aggression if and when necessary, and she also stands her ground if and when in disagreement with her client, with good intention and in good faith - in saying so, I can highly recommend her. I have not come across decent attorneys even after an extensive search over a period of 4 years; however, I can say that Maxine is one of the few good ones. Unfortunately, I was forced to part ways with Maxine - nothing to do with her service but due to my financial limitations alone. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for her legal advice, time, and efforts representing me. If you are looking for an attorney and haven't made detrimental mistakes thus far, you should consider Maxine. And, even if your case is complex, consider a consultation - she will at the very least guide you correctly to ensure the best possible outcome.

I needed someone to help me get through a divorce with children but I felt like I was having a final exam on how to become a lawyer, which I am not. Maxine was combative and aggressive. She is extreme and not calm. I will have to look elsewhere.

I was lucky enough to have Mary Ann as my representation when I was going through a difficult time. She was quick to return phone calls and always explained thoroughly what was going on and what the next step would be. She patiently answered every question that I had. Her legal team at office (Maxine-Lauren -Diana) are very nice and professional. I truly believe that she got me the best result possible. I enthusiastically endorse her to anyone who needs legal help.

Mary Ann was recommended to me when I needed an attorney to address child custody issues. I could not have been more satisfied with this recommendation. Mary Ann listens. She is compassionate and caring, yet she is also honest. We have unfortunately had a variety of situations arise and while this has been a stressful, drawn out process, I feel that I have been extremely well represented. Mary Ann is able to take my feelings, frustrations and concerns and succinctly puts them into well written documents. In the end, I have what is most important to me, full custody of my son and I have her to thank for that. I would recommend her without hesitation. She is professional, organized and absolutely knows what she is doing.

I was referred to Mary Ann Noiroux by an acquaintance who was also an attorney, but didn't specialize in Family Law. Let me tell you that was the best referral that I've ever received! I was faced with a divorce involving two minor children after many years of marriage, and to further complicate my situation my now ex-wife is a powerful attorney herself. Outgunned and intimidated, I turned to Mary Ann for relief from a very painful situation. She literally saved my life! She immediately put an end to many unpleasant and harsh conditions, established a level playing ground, and never ceased being a zealous advocate of my rights as father of my children and as the weaker partner in the marriage. Everything that she predicted would happen did happen. She has exceptional maneuverability inside of the court system and is well respected by her peers. Mary Ann, simply stated, is an exceptional attorney with an incredible array of skill sets. I will be forever grateful for what she has done for me! Pat P.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
