I don’t know how I would have gotten through the divorce process if not for the guidance of Emelia Edwards. She was clear, respectful, and advocated for my best interests while I was struggling with the traumatic aftermath of surviving domestic violence. If you need someone in your corner, Emelia is the right choice.

Divorce is really hard. So hard. And if you’re going through anything hard, I would highly recommend you have Ashley in your corner. She is so smart, but at the same time, so easy to talk to. She’s realistic, but compassionate. One thing that really stood out to me was her timely responses, and she never dropped the ball at any point during this marathon of a process. I would highly recommend Ashley. Lindsay T.

I reached out for help with a simple divorce and I'm glad I did when it went sour. Scott and Bronwyn were awesome and understood the unique situation. The attentive teamwork was a relief multiple times.

I won't go into too many details (there's a lot) but my experience with Adam Naset has been terrible. During our initial phone call he was so verbally aggressive with me I almost started to cry. But I was in desperate need of a lawyer. My temporary court hearing was a few days away and he told me on the phone that because it was so close that he would charge me a $5000 retainer fee. I then by myself filed a motion for continuance and got the temporary hearing pushed back by a month. He still charged me the $5000 retainer fee. I provided him with about 22 pages (single spaced) of information for my affidavit and also had text message screenshots to provide support for my affidavit. Then I provided him with my YouTube channel (Ray's Boring Life) and SoundCloud page (Raymond John Lovell) and also I sent him like 15 poems I have written in the last ten years as a way to show him who I was and for him to include some as support for my affidavit to show my emotional depth. My official affidavit was about 3-4 pages long and he ignored every other piece of information I gave him. But I trusted in his decision on what to put in the affidavit and signed it for the court, a big mistake on my part. During the temporary custody hearing Adam did not do a single thing to advocate for me and when the opposing lawyer brought up a questionable assumption that I had a whole section written about in my information Adam had, when given the opportunity to speak Adam had nothing to say to the court. The ruling did not go in my favor and I have Adam to thank for that. After a few angry emails to him Adam decided to withdraw. I have asked for a full refund that I more than likely won't receive. I had a conversation with ChatGPT and provided all the same information as I did to Adam except the text message screenshots (ChatGPT is not able to analyze text through images) and provided all of the affidavits from the respondent that were provided to the court. ChatGPT rated Adam's work on my affidavit a 4/10. Maybe this is just a one off experience, but I trusted him and he threw me under the bus.

From the very first time I spoke with Kim I felt a genuine kindness and care in her approach to her work. She conducts her practice from a place of compassion and sincere concern for the betterment of all lives involved in the process. She is so much more than just a lawyer. I truly believe that without Kim I would not have had the solid ground I needed to stand up for my own happiness, the happiness of my child, or of my ex-wife. If you TRULY care about the most compassionate and responsible outcome for your family then Kim is who you need to hire. I will forever be grateful to her and her excellent staff for their work.

My experience with Kimberly was a setback. Each time I spoke with her I had to remind her each detail of my situation over. She couldn't even remember the date we discussed filing. She recommended I ask for a dollar amount in the split that was about 5% of total assets. She suggested this number before asking what property that was going to be divided. When I finally wrote and said I would need to hire someone that remembers my case her reply was the flippant "Sounds good!" She also took up my consultation time telling me how her and her boyfriend agree to spend time together. 0 Stars for professionalism.

An issue I have ran into with other attorneys is that they seem to be all about the money- not with kim! When you're working with Kim you can see that she genuinely cares about what's best for you and making sure she does everything she can as fast as she can to get you the best considering your case. If I'm ever in a situation where I'll need her again, she will definitely be the first attorney I call. Good job Kim!

I have been using Learned & Associates for several years for tax and legal advice and have had exceptional service from them. They have provided first rate legal advice to me and my family when I established my own business and when I sold my house and other family members houses. Because of their top notch work, they continue to prepare my taxes every year even after I moved out of state. I have referred several people to them and they have been extremely satisfied as well.

I was referred by Nick to learned law and Chad referred us to Heartland Credit restoration and told us to reach out when our credit score was better. Finally after getting everything resolved. I called and I left a message with their receptionist if Chad would be able to call us back to see if he has an appointment available to come in and speak to him about what all he needs from us to get a home loan. Never heard back. The receptionist was very rude when i was speaking with her. When i have not heard back from Chad for a week i went ahead and emailed him. Its been over a month and half since i have not heard back. At least a phone call or a response to my email would have been appreciated. Definitely was disappointed because Chad was very helpful in the beginning with all of the information.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
