Jay White is an increadible attorney with 30 plus years of experience, which is one of the traits to a great attorney. I initially went with a popular online law firm that specializes in tickets… and they were too green in handling a case like mine. The benefits of using an attorney like Mr. White is his years of experience, and he personally looks at your case and takes an approach based off that case and not out to make a quick buck and put it on the pipeline. Jay White proved his swift and efficient representation, which is what you expect from a high caliber attorney. He has a very efficient, honest, and transparent team that comes along with his representation. I do not live in NC but that wasn’t a problem, he took care of everything and I am incredibly satisfied with the outcome of my case. Consider Jay White for your next representation you are in good hands.

Sean did an amazing job handling my motorcycle incident. I didn't have to do hardly anything and he handled all communication and negotiation with the insurances companies. It allowed me a peace of mind to focus on recovery from injuries and the final outcome was more than satisfactory!

We had a pressing legal issue and sought out Sean Clayton, who was recommended by a friend in Durham. Sean was professional, knowledgeable, and personable. An all-around nice guy. He solved our problem quickly and avoided a lot of difficulty for our family. For any future legal issues, we would contact Sean first.

After firing my last attorney Mr. Weinshenker was next up on the court appointed list. I couldn't have been more lucky. Right away I could tell the difference between the two lawyers. He emailed me a couple times a day. He also was very blunt and let me know the reality of the situation. He's my new go-to lawyer. My case isn't over with but I just want everyone know who is looking for a lawyer, this guy is awesome!

Seth is the best attorney I have had through the course of my divorce and custody cases. From the first time I met him, he was professional, took detailed notes, asked pertinent questions and was highly available. He got my custody case into court quickly and was always more than blunt about the reality of the possible outcomes. He is down to earth, personable, and down to business. And he has a LOT of experience in his field. In one case he actually spent enough time researching law to figure out that the opposing attorney had filed completely improper paperwork against me and the suit against me was dismissed. He is very thorough. I can't say enough nice things about his professionalism. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. He was able to accomplish for me what two prior attorneys in Cabarrus county failed at miserably.

5 Stars for Alaina!!!! I want to recognize a TOP NOTCH Paralegal, Alaina!!! I don't think I can type enough words to explain my gratitude towards Alaina, but I will do the best that I can! She made me feel that she ALWAYS had a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, and kept me up to date on my case. ALL accident representatives should be taught by Alaina, (no matter how small the monetary value results would/will be) to treat the clients like they are the only one that matters, and are given the respect that they truly deserve!! Alaina, it was an absolute pleasure to work with you!!! I want to wish you all of the best!!! Thank you again!!!! Lisa B.

Mrs. Baker & her team of paralegals deserve 10/5 stars! I thought when I received a DWI charge my career and opportunity were over, I knew I’d lose my job, lose my house, & everything if I got convicted. I needed the best and boy did I ever find the best with Mrs Baker. My case was lengthy and very stressful, Mrs. Baker and her team of paralegals reassured me each time that they would fight and give it everything that they had! From the courtroom to consultations, phone calls, & life events Mrs Baker did nothing short than fight until the bitter end! In the end They Did It! There is no other representation I’d rather have behind me and fighting for me! My family & I are unbelievably grateful for everything they have done!

I had Mia Alzagari as my attorney for a speeding ticket in a work zone. They tried to hit me hard for my first time. Not only was it 4:55am on my way home from getting my kids from Florida but we were driving for about 20hours but there was no traffic and my gps told me it was 70mph not 55. So I thank her and ADA, Ms. Dewar very much for getting me out of a very sticky situation because without them I don’t feel like they would of even tried to listen to me

I would not recommend Brent Patterson. He said he would represent us in our case but just dragged us along. We had several meetings to discuss the case only for him not take action. I don’t believe he ever intended on working our case. In the four months we dealt with him, he never responded to any of the multiple emails I sent. He talks more than he listens and I also suspect he didn’t take action because he had a conflict of interest with the other party.

I would highly recommend the Law Firm of Lancaster and St. Louis. They are very friendly and caring. I felt so comfortable the first time I met Hilary St. Louis. She is extremely knowledgeable and also very helpful. I will definitely use her again if I need to. She was the BEST!! Maura was very helpful also. She got us an appointment quickly and answered any questions that I had prior to our consultation.

I was represented by Lancaster & St. Louis for nearly 3 years. Their performance as my legal team was haphazard, sluggish, and emotionally draining –on their best days. As a single parent, I’m familiar with the hardships and stressors court can bring and this team failed to provide me the support I needed in one of my most difficult times – resulting in time lost with my son, financial losses, and unnecessary emotional turmoil throughout this whole process due to simple carelessness. Regarding his firm’s professionalism (or lack thereof), unfortunately I was accidentally copied on emails between Hilary and opposing counsel; a lengthy back and forth of both attorneys disparaging and making fun of court staff, fellow attorneys and even judges. This is hardly the behavior I expect to see from someone representing myself and the best interests of my son. I began with Hilary representing me in my case. After Hilary mysteriously disappeared for a second time (this time for several months), LeAnn took over my case. Both of Hilary’s disappearances also occurred within a week of two crucial hearings on motions Hilary had filed. There were plenty of conversations with opposing counsel (who Hilary was familiar with as they are both based in Cabarrus County) and plenty of emails but there was no traction on multiple fronts. With Hilary’s second sudden disappearance, opposing counsel was also replaced at the same time with someone based out of Mecklenburg County, who the office had not previously interacted with. As an aside, credit where credit is due; opposing counsel was thorough and competent and quite a contrast from LeAnn. LeAnn was tasked with representing me on the motions Hilary had previously filed and had not been heard for well over a year. From her first appearance in court, it was clear that LeAnn was unprepared. Multiple motions were dismissed due to careless oversights when being filed by Hilary. This included a motion for child support and unpaid expenses totaling well over $20k that was incorrectly filed; again carelessness. After two of these incidents, I reached out to Hilary detailing my concerns. The response I received was that THEY would decide who was assigned to which case, cc:ing LeAnn and further enflaming the situation. LeAnn's lack of preparation was exacerbated after one judgement called for a one year suspended sentence. (I've obtained a copy of the court transcript audio confirming the judge’s ruling from the bench). In drafting the judgement with opposing counsel, LeAnn neglected to include the duration of my sentence. After the judgement was filed without a duration, it became a sentence with no duration, which meant it would expire when my son turned 18. A one year suspended criminal sentence became a 7+ year sentence directly due to LeAnn’s negligence and Hilary's inaction. As an aside, if you are seeking representation and are being told you can recover attorney fees that should be a red flag and should move along in your search. In discussions with multiple attorneys (well over 10) in both Cabarrus and Meck County, I was consistently told how rare attorney's fees are to be awarded and even more difficult specifically within Cabarrus County. Hilary repeatedly sold me on the prospect of attorney fees for nearly 2 years. The question to ask yourself as a potential client is whether you are willing to take the risk or to go with someone with a more consistent track record. If my case was given the same attention as given to damage control of negative reviews on google, perhaps there would have been a more positive outcome. For a candid look into how this firm handles clients, look through their responses to google reviews. My review is honest, based on my experience and supported by emails, motions filed and their outcomes along with court transcripts.

Mr. Brannen was appointed by the court to represent me. I was very disappointed with him. Having had no need of an attorney in my 64 years, I had no experience with lawyers or the court system. My case was continued over and over again. He did not return my calls and I never knew what was going on. I did not want to or need to take up an inordinate amount of his time. I am sure that court appointed cases do not pay as much as defendant paid cases, but if he takes them, then he should allow honest representation. Not HONEST!!

This lawyer was so poor in his handling of my case. He would not return calls most of the time. He would not show up in court and would not tell me he would not be there. I was so confused when the first time he did not show up in court. I didn't know what to do. I think he is a horrible lawyer.

On 10/27/2021 I was facing a criminal contempt charge. This was a direct result of following the instruction of Lancaster and St. Louis to file a motion to suspend visitation due to growing concerns regarding the immediate physical safety of my son while in his mother's care. As part of the motion to suspend, hundreds of pages of medical records had been subpoenaed and secured from to different mental health providers. This also took many billable hours to read through and organize. When these records were referenced during the hearing, the defendant simply stated that “both providers were lying and embellishing records in order to get paid by Medicaid”. LeAnn’s response was to stare blankly into space and after an awkward silence, simply moved on in her questioning. An accusation of Medicare fraud under oath apparently did not warrant any additional questions of LeAnn. This was detrimental to my case and resulted in the motion being dismissed. To add to this, a contempt charge had been filed in response for me not providing my son for visitation (due to the concerns outlined in the motion). I was quickly found guilty and the judge ordered from the bench that I pay a $500 fine to the defendant along with a 1 year criminal suspended sentence. This is where things became much worse. 1/ I followed LeAnn’s instructions and had a check out to her within days of that judgement. LeAnn did nothing with this for months, until opposing counsel contacted her about it and their next step was going to be to file contempt charges where I would have ended up with a 30 day sentence in jail. 2/ LeAnn’s lack of attention to detail and rushing through her work became quite apparent. The judgement was drawn up by the defense and LeAnn had her opportunity to make edits or “red line” and send back to counsel for the defense. LeAnn overlooked that the draft judgement did not specifically state the 1 year sentence the judge ordered from the bench and was entered without a duration; this meant my criminal suspended sentence went from a judgement of 1 year to the 10+ years remaining until my son is 18. I asked repeatedly for clarification on the judgement and was not provided with an answer. There were at least 7 emails requesting this information, all while remaining polite and professional as I have throughout my representation with this firm. Finally, LeAnn called me (which was very unusual) the afternoon of 4/15. LeAnn attempted to downplay the judgement and even proceeded to advise me that “well it isn’t really criminal…” when it in fact it very much was. As a final “farewell”, LeAnn filed a new motion related to child support and received an objection back from opposing counsel. In hindsight this followed a pattern of Lancaster and St. Louis filing motions that simply went nowhere. After receiving a copy of the objection as the attorney of record representing me, the next day LeAnn emailed me to withdraw from the case entirely citing my “dissatisfaction”. To make matters worse, LeAnn failed to provide me with a copy of this objection, as she is required to do so as the attorney of record at the time of the objection. The truth of the matter is that LeAnn had dug herself a significant hole. Instead of stepping up and taking responsibility, she ran, leaving me to clean up her mess. When you look for legal counsel, look for someone who will be accountable for their work and that will stick with their client. The representation by Lancaster and St. Louis overall was sporadic, sluggish and made themselves necessary based on their own repeated missteps and oversights. If you are a current client, it may be time to take a closer look at what “work” is being completed. As a potential client, I would recommend you look elsewhere for legal representation as there are plenty of quality attorneys in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus County

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
