I find John Fisher to be extremely knowledgeable in the personal injury and medical malpractice areas of the law. I am impressed by how knowledgeable he is in the areas that he practices. I would highly recommend him, without any reservation, for his competency, professionalism, and the way he relates to individuals.

John helped coordinate payments of major medical bills (from an auto accident with an uninsured motorist who was 'at fault'). John had a good working repore with those involved as he dealt directly with the hospital, our own car insurance company and our health insurance companies. He followed up on each bill as they got 'bounced' around and pursued their proper payment to ensure our credit remained clean. We are thankful for his expertise and how he kept us informed each step of the way.

I hired John Fisher for two different cases, one of which went to a 3 day jury trial against a local doctor. John did a excellent job representing my case against this Physician & his Attorneys. We won that case hands down. My 2nd case was a auto accident that I was injured by no fault of my own. John did a awesome job getting me what I deserved without going to court. I can't thank John enough on how he represented me.

I wish I could give to this woman more than a review..when hope was lost a seeked out Amber, taking my case I felt a wieght lifted. She and her staff stayed in contact with me, kept me informed. I felt reassured, and heard. She is very compstionate and when it came down to my day in court I was so pleasantly surprised( having a crappy lawyer before) this woman came to fight for me and my grandson. So professional. By the end my grandson came home with me and I won. If you need a lawyer that checks every box ..here she is. Thank you Ms VanGunten and your team. God bless

I was in a car accident where the other vehicle was cited and I had to go to the hospital for treatment. After the court date the other party tried to refute the claim after I had to take them to court to get my medical bills covered. Charlie fought hard for me and I appreciate everything he did because he won our case and all my bills were covered plus some. He is also very easy to talk to and won't BS you about your suit. 10/10 would use him again!

Firm provided poor business representation on a dispute between partners. First meeting the attorney arrived disorganized and completely befuddled. As my legal council, he stated there was no defense to the promissory notes and that i should simply settle. Within a couple months the firm was fired and as an out of state client, I located new Ohio business council who assisted in settling the matter with little to no expense. Now, months later this firm is insistent on collecting over $3300 dollars when I paid a retainer and NEVER utilized their service. Watch up for scams and be sure to set a budget. Not only was the service terrible but the fact that after they were fired they continued to track admin time and when the bill was disputed they did not have any follow up conversations. I would NEVER recommend this law firm for business matters.

Attorney Matthew Exton with this firm, is NOT recommended! It took me 3 months to get my final settlement check out of a lawsuit I won. He kept changing the fees. I have his first one, which is NOT at all nothing like the final one. I complained to his firm & finally got a check in the mail with a letter from the firm. BUT, what the firm doesn't know is, Matthew Exton sent me an email which was NOT very friendly. He comes off great to begin with but when it comes down to it, he doesn't fight for you & treats you nasty.

It's been a while, but I remember the event clearly because the meeting was so unprofessional. I made an appointment a week in advance and the person from this firm was more than an hour late. This person/lawyer on a weekday, was dressed in a polo and jogging pants. There was no way that this person was going to represent me. Worst experience with a lawyer ever.

This lawyer didn't appear to have any interest in representing me at any time after I paid the retainer. Condescending, disrespectful and unprofessional. I did most of the work yet when I found errors in transcribing what I sent, he charged me for the time he took to correct his own errors. When I asked direct questions, he would rack up my bill by going into a long over elaboration on the obvious. Office staff unable to relay basic information to him. Grand finale was how Jay began to joke around with the other atty during our final zoom trial while my husband began choking up in tears. Unbelievable

Not sure where to begin with this guy. The best word to describe him is ineffectual. He is not a thinker, he is not concerned with others at all nor does he have an understanding of how his hostility effects the families of his clients. Jay's techniques are not sophisticated. He will try his best to get his client fighting with their spouse solely for the purpose of increasing billable hours. he is honest about one thing, he will tell you that he has a right to provide for himself, he up front about that. What's worse is, on top of his greed, and lack of empathy is that he is relatively unable to get things done, though he prefers it that was. Through my dealings with Jay I have had to reach out to other professionals for expert opinions and without exception when I'm asked who I'm dealing with and I say Jay Feldstein i get the same response "Oh God, He's an idiot" Sorry Jay but your reputation proceeds you

I guess im writing this now because I'm shopping for attorneys actually terrified I'll end up with another Jay. I realized that people only know if we speak out. So Im speaking and I hope this helps someone out there to think twice before hiring him. This is all my own opinion and my experience with Jay. I don't believe he cares about his clients. At least he didn't care about me once I signed with him. To him I was just a case number and a check. I didn't expect alot as far as concern towards me as his client but I sure didn't expect what I got. I felt more like a ladder he stepped on to try and get himself up to a higher position. I was a professional, single parent before my accident. After it, I found myself permanently damaged and jobless. He was unfeeling towards me, very cold and extremely rude. Not only to me but to my parents. The way he spoke, yelling at us, was very arrogant and unprofessional. He didn't like us asking any questions. I had an open and shut case. I was rear ended at a stop light on a dry beautiful day by a week old driver, a well known figures daughter to be exact. My case took over 4 years and it was a nightmare! My attorney was overly chummy with the other side even sitting in their court house offices spinning in their office chair saying "boy he could get used to this" while I waited feeling terribly alone watching him wondering how did I get here? He treated me and my family so terribly that I'd tried to fire him but I'd already signed that contract and was very smugly told by him to go ahead but I would still have to pay him for all his time etc. On top of the new attorney and he would charge them for any information they requested about my case. I was drained and didn't have the fight in me to continue so I gave up on a new attorney. I'd been severely injured in that accident and had to have spinal surgery. I had terrible nerve damage as well. I'd felt at that time that my body was stolen from me. On top of all that I had an attorney who was, in my opinion, flip and grossly negligent. He was not on my side. He didn't care and it showed in his work. I was a single parent with young children who's lives had changed and trying to hold everything together as well as heal from my own injuries. I went through hell and back. I truly feel he'd take money from anyone just to fill his own greed or position. It's all about money, ego and image to him. As long as he gets his that's all he cares about. Terrible bed side manner. Idk what else to call it? He's terribly rude and frankly an unfeeling cold fish. I'd go elsewhere. And Jay... I forgive you but you also should know that one day there will be a judgement. You may not care about that now but one day you will. I suggest you do better, much, much better. Store up heavenly treasures. There's much more to life than money. How you treat others matters

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
