In my 16-year career as a claims adjuster I have had the opportunity to work with several attorneys. When I was involved in a car accident, I didn’t think twice about contacting Mr. Lucero to assist me. I called him after business hours, and he addressed all my concerns with a great deal of empathy and professionalism. I contacted him almost 6 months after my accident and placed unrealistic time constraints on him to meet my upcoming mediation. He worked tirelessly and expeditiously to get me the compensation that I deserved. He treated me like family and had my best interest at heart. Mr. Lucero communicated often and made sure he was available to address any questions or concerns that I had. I’m grateful for all the hard work and time he dedicated to getting my case resolved. Anytime, I need legal advice he’s my go to person. His experience and professionalism are unparalleled.

Tim Lucero worked relentlessly for three years on my small personal injury case. Though my case was definitely not the largest case he was handling. he always made me feel as a priority. He did not stop until we got what the outcome we were hoping for. Though I hope I won't need his services again, I know that I can have a dedicated lawyer on my side should I need it. I highly recommend Tim Lucero.

Let me begin this review by explaining that I had an EXTREMELY rough case to overcome due to an unrelated attorney I had hired prior to Mr. Kelley. My case was also very unique in its level of difficulty in general, so that also added to the likelihood that I would not see a successful outcome. At the recommendation of the PBA, I retained Kelley Law Group and was consulted by Mr. Kelley on a different direction he thought we should take in relation to my case. He was upfront and honest with me in his belief that my case may not be winnable due to several errors made by others and myself prior. He was NOT there just to take my money...he appeared 100% compassionate (Workers Comp really put me through the ringer!) and wanted nothing more than to get me the desired outcome I wanted and rightfully deserved. The following was a very unlikely thing for me to personally do but I was at the end of my rope -- I decided to put every ounce of faith into Mr. Kelley and adhere by everything he insisted we do to give my case at least a fighting chance. His professional/legal advice was a Godsend to me. Because of this man's hard work, knowledge of the law and attention to detail, along with the dedication and hard work from all of the employees at Kelley Law Group, I WON MY CASE!! The decision I won has literally changed my life for the best, hands down! If you have been bent over the proverbial barrel by Workmans Comp and even your agency, do yourself a favor and at least call Kelley Law Group for a consultation. The decision to retain Kelley Law Group may have been the best decision I ever made in my career of over 23 years. Thank you to Mr. Kelley and his ENTIRE staff -- you will always be heroes to me! ~Bobby M.

First and foremost obtaining a FRS duty disability it can be a long process and by no means easy. DO NOT ATTEMPT this alone. Laws change all the time Federal, State and Work mans comp. Paul Kelley stays on top of all that! Remember he has 35 years as an Attorney and comes from a law enforcement family. He is no doubt time and money well spent. And during the pandemic Paul and his amazing staff could get calls through to other Attorney, Doctors and State offices effectively. What more could a client ask for? Thanks Paul for helping me get the benefit I am truly deserving of. Sincerely Mark

In 2006, while working as a patrol officer, I had a heart attack on the job. This led to several weeks in the hospital and months of recovery. The City I work for denied my claim under the Heart and Lung Bill. Based upon recommendation from my union, I sought out Paul Kelley to represent me. I did not know it at the time, but this would turn out to be the best decision I have ever made. The city fought ruthlessly to deny my claim; so much so that at one point, I wondered if it was worth the fight. Paul assured me that it was and he was absolutely right. The city continued to deny my claim and Paul took them to court and won. Despite this, the city still denied my claim and appealed. Paul went before the appellate court in Miami, which consisted of a 3 judge panel. All three judges unanimously upheld our win in the lower court. The city now, by court order, recognizes and is responsible for my claim. Since 2006, I have had to have many heart related procedures. I had to retire medically as a police officer. Paul represented me through all of this and negotiated a transition from officer to a civilian administrative position, where I presently continue to work. In 2020, I developed severe heart failure and had to undergo an evaluation for a heart transplant. Paul again represented me throughout this very scary time. Thanks to Paul and his team, I received the medical attention that I needed in a timely manner. Luckily, I did not have to undergo transplantation at this time and am continuing to receive medical therapy. I have had the need for an attorney more than I have ever imagined that I would. I can tell you, Paul is an absolute expert pertaining to the Heart and Lung Bill and Worker's Compensation. Above all else, he is one of the nicest and most caring people you will ever meet. He has put together a team of experts. Connie, Barbara and Kristin are the best! During this recent transplant scare, they worked late hours and did whatever it took to make sure that I got what I needed medically. You absolutely cannot go wrong with choosing Paul to represent you. 14 years after choosing Paul, I still say it was the best decision I have ever made.

When I had my bike accident I had the opportunity to hire a friend of a friend at a discounted rate. However, after talking to Peter and his team I could tell there was a difference, and I’m thankful I made the right choice. They took so much time with me to make sure I was okay each step along the way. I not only felt good about how my case was being handled, but I also felt good about how Peter and his team were fighting for bike advocacy. They took time to explain officers involved in my case the rights of cyclists on the road. They were thorough and tenacious all while being caring and compassionate. Every detail was considered. They always made time for a phone or video call to explained any questions I had along the way. I never would have expected the outcome I had. I’m so thankful to have had the support of Peter and Bike Law after such a stressful time in my life.

In May of 2022, I was hit by an ATV during an Ironman race in Panama City Beach, FL. I broke 8 ribs, had facial lacerations, and other injuries. Plus, my bike was battered. I tried to just recover my medical expenses, cost to replace my bike, etc. through the help of a local attorney. It went nowhere. Then I reached out to Rachael Maney and her team at Bike Law. They were incredibly receptive, kind, and tenacious. They pursued my case hard and got me a settlement that, at least, covered my medical expenses, bike, and other items. It took two years and they never gave up for me. I hope you never need them, but if something happens, they are awesome and I highly recommend them.

After suffering a catastrophic injury at work I consulted with 2 NY attorneys and then a prominent NJ law firm. All 3 told me I didn't have a case, that it would be "impossible" to get any settlement . Fortunately I ran into Mr. Berger one day while shopping and my accident came up in conversation. He felt that he could help me and asked if I would mind if he looked into my case. He hired a forensic engineer and ultimately I got a rather large settlement for my "impossible" case. I have since had the pleasure of introducing numerous friends and relatives to Mr. Berger. We have all found him to be caring, compassionate and professional. A true champion of the "impossible".

Mr. Berger knew exactly how to help us even though we had allowed so much time to go before seeking his help. We were impressed with how efficient he was and pleased that he was able to settle in our favor for the sum he predicted.

Mr. Cressman, his wife & staff places the care of there client as if they are family. It was a very stressful time for me due to a car accident. He made sure that everything done was in my best interest. This law firm will go above and beyond for its clients. He is highly recommended! Believe me just meet with him for a consultation! He's not a "big name" lawyer, you meet with him and not a paralegal! That should say something!

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
