After a bad experience with a previous probate lawyer, we looked at google reviews of many lawyers. Mr. Porter caught our eye since he had a good review from a judge.
It was even more difficult since my sister had just died which precipitated me taking over my mother's estate as well as executing my sister's.
After speaking to him and two other probate lawyers, we chose Mr. Porter.
It was a great decision. Mr. Porter is very efficient, very clear on time lines and explains things very clearly when asked. He made great use of email and billed for these emails extremely fairly. He was very supportive during this very difficult time. He prioritized necessary actions, e.g., placing the notice to creditors as soon as he could.
His assistant, Deanne, is also awesome. She would return emails and phone calls very quickly. She would also answer any questions she could. If she couldn't answer them, she'd get the answers and respond in a timely manner. She was also very kind and supportive during this awful time.
From what I can tell, Mr. Porter got the estates running and closed within the minimum time possible.
If you are in the unfortunate position of needing a probate lawyer, Mr. Porter should be at the top of your list.

I have known Jim Ginzkey for approximately 13 years. My husband and I have retained him for services as well as called upon him for legal advice. I have referred friends and/or acquaintences to him for services and legal advice. Jim is extremely knowledgeable and honest. I have found that if he did not feel he was the best attorney suitable for advice on a specific matter he would provide a name of another attorney he felt could better assist. I work with her at different business. My husband and I were purchasing a residence for our son, and knew she did real estate work on the side. I went to her to review the disclosures and assist in the contract formation. She would not accept any money said it was for my son's re-start so we were all good. I've spoken to the receptionist 6 times and each time "I'll have someone get back to you " with no call back. If an attorney is too busy to return calls, do you really trust them to be there for you in court?

I can agree with another review listed here. He talks up a good game and that's all. He will not return phone calls, goes MIA, tells you you don't need to show up for court and doesn't bother to give ANY details of how it went. He suggested that I bring in a 3rd party, GAL so that my kids could consult with them on how they wanted visitation. That was $1000 and he never called them in to court. Total waste of time and money.

The guy completely doesn't know Illinois law. Even the law updated in 2016 he didn't know. Absent twice at court and no reason! I called him many times but he turned off his phone. I called his office no one explain to me why he absent!!!! Since that he just gave me a bill $6700 said he was busy couldn't handle my case!!!! definitely immoral guy!!!!
