I found out that the apartment I lived in for 2.5 years was rent controlled and wasn’t registered with any governing body as a legal apartment. I was charged far in excess of the allowable rent for the apartment the entire time I lived there and was facing a judge that told me that rent control no longer existed in DC so I didn’t really have a case.
Enter: Marc Borbely. He’s a compassionate person who understood my struggle and put a thorough and amazing amount of work into meeting me where I was financially and helping me with every step of my case. As a black woman going up against white housing providers I truly didn’t expect much from this case, but I kept going anyway because I didn’t want the property owners to feel like they could get away with what was clearly shady and dishonest activity. I am so happy to have had Marc in my corner for this experience! In the end it all worked out and I know those property owners will think twice before being dishonest with their tenants again. I would work with Marc anytime!

I paid a retainer for consultation and the drafting of a letter of reply to a not-for-profit organization that was attempting to collect on a claim of a twenty-year-old debt incurred in a European country. Mr. Sternberg took the full hour to listen to my situation and position on the matter, answered all my questions, and left me with a sense of confidence that he was experienced and capable of legally handling my matter. His assistant, Mr. Martz, drafted an eloquent and robust response, which the other party continued to dispute, and I have retained their firm for whatever come next.
I greatly appreciated their responsiveness; they were timely and set up the first consult within a few days of contacting them and the letter they drafted was sent out in a business week. I also felt that they listened to me and took the time to explain the matter to my satisfaction. They often caveated their statements, as many legal matters cannot be fully defined, it depends on a multitude of controllable and uncontrollable items, and they were diligent in ensuring that they understood what I could expect and what the most likely (but not guaranteed!) outcomes would be. Lastly, they took the time to reach out when this process was upsetting or making me nervous and ensured that we were progressing in a manner that was organized, coherent, and deliberate as opposed to making hasty, snap judgements.
I would unreservedly recommend Mr. Sternberg for anyone that has a civil matter involving real estate and international law.

Leigh is a brilliant attorney. She absolutely knows and understands tenant’s rights law in great detail. She’s an extremely good listener and knows how convey her client’s issues in a very clear manner.
I was in a situation where my health was being adversely affected in my apartment. For over six months my landlord would not listen to my complaints nor my requests. I met with Leigh about my case. She took time to explain to me the different options and possible outcomes. Throughout the process she was caring, direct and never over promised anything. But she delivered much needed help!
The same day Leigh intervened on my behalf with my landlord, I was released from my lease and able to move. My health has improved tremendously because of her help. I’m forever grateful to her.
I highly recommend Leigh to any tenant in need of assistance with housing and landlord issues. If I could give her 10 stars I would!

Hi, I was in an unusual situation with finding out who my biological father was in 2015, he passed away in March 2024, an probate was open up in dc court for my dad by one of his other children which is my sister, she did not include me in anything. One of the most honest and caring attorneys I have dealt with. I randomly choose Eric after so much disappointment from a previous attorney. He was able to somewhat turn my employment situation around. While the final outcome was not what I anticipated, my final settlement was able to at lease recover attorney fees.

I suspect many are like me and when you're looking for an attorney (not related to routine business/personal matters), it's about one of the worst times in your life. There is so much uncertainty, anxiety and you want the BEST attorney to represent you. Someone that is going aggressively and steadfastly look out for your interests at every juncture, provide sage guidance and prod you when you need it and almost needless to say, be absolutely competent in their field. Eric Siegel delivered all that in spades. He worked tirelessly to move the case along to a final resolution (settlement). His attention to detail, his follow through, his confidant drive to win is exemplary.
My case involved a construction contract dispute that was just about to bankrupt me. Our family has worked with business attorneys in the past and while they were fine, I wanted someone of a different caliber. I spent an ungodly amount of time doing online research. I suspect many of us may find our attorneys this way when we're in dire straights. I hope my efforts will save you some time. My advice is close your browser, contact Mr. Siegel's office, you won't find anyone better.
Lastly, I was almost not going to contact him, because AVVO states only 5% of his practice is dedicated to construction. However his reviews were so good I made the outreach and good thing that I did. That 5% means nothing - he is so knowledgeable about the construction industry, contract law, homeowner's right, etc. It's as if 100% of his practice is dedicated to this arena.
Hiring Mr. Siegel was one of the best decisions I could have made in this case and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone that requires an attorney.

Ms. Axmith is a lawyer who most definitely stands out. I called her office to leave a message at 10 pm and was surprised to find she picked up the phone because she was working late on a case. She gave me some initial advice that put me at ease, and didn't charge any consultation fees. My initial impression of her is that she is a very experienced and no-nonsense lawyer who would go to bat for you if you were being threatened or intimidated. I really liked her from the get go because I felt she was on my side without judging me or making me feel small. I walked away feeling empowered and less befuddled. I was having an issue with my landlord trying to hold me to illegal lease clauses and other unethical actions after giving notice to move out. I hired Ms. Denny as D.C. housing law is complex. Ms. Denny went toe to toe with the lawyer of the national luxury housing corporation of which I was a tenant of after my roommate (who was on probation for attacking someone and whom physically attacked my close friend numerous times) had threatened physical violence against me on recording. Under DC Code § 42–3505.07, the leasing office is required by law to release tenants who reside with someone who has harmed or threaten to harm them--however the lawyers at the leasing office would not recognize me under the law when I went about it on my own. After Ms. Denny got involved, the dispute was settled out of court within a couple short weeks (which had previously been going on for months) and I was eventually released from my lease at zero expense to me. I certainly would not have achieved that outcome without the help of Ms. Denny.
