While searching for a lawyer, I searched for "best lawyer in Santa Fe, NM". Slate Stern popped up and although I read all the positive reviews I waited a few days before I sent him the summary of our situation on his website. Within 10 minutes, I received a response. I contacted JTH for representation on 3 civil complaints that I made as a plaintiff. JTH did not properly conduct a conflict check. He initially advised me with one complaint and gave me directions on how to personally file the 2 other complaints. His directions were conflicted because he knew the defendant's family. Then he changed his advice and decided to amend the complaints. When I refused to allow him to proceed and would not continue to pay him, he shouted at me and sent me numerous emails and text messages stating that I had to make the decisions to keep him. He continued to make monetary demands. He withdrew as my counsel. I was able to continue the civil process on my own as I had initially tried in the beginning with opposing counsel. Mr. Torres-Hughes had little to no experience in the process and became very unprofessional in his actions and methods. He never refunded me the $4,000+ that I paid him.
