Laura Shaver is an excellent defense attorney. She defended our son on a DUI and a totally uncalled for DV charge. In both cases, Laura, worked out reasonable solutions and the charges were removed or downgraded. Laura was thorough and obviously has the respect of the prosecutors and judges in Snohomish County. Laura really cared about the outcome and communicated personally with me on several occasions. I cannot say enough about her high degree of professionalism and skill as an attorney!

I had the pleasure of working with Scott Lawrence for my DUI case and I couldn't be more grateful for his representation. Not only did he win my trial, but his knowledge of the details and his negotiation skills were instrumental in achieving a successful outcome. He was able to navigate the complex legal system with ease and always had my best interests in mind. One of the things I appreciated most about working with Mr. Lawrence was his commitment to keeping me informed and updated throughout the entire process. He always made sure I understood the progress of my case and was available to answer any questions I had. I never felt in the dark or uncertain about my case with him on my side. If you're in need of a DUI attorney, I highly recommend Mr. Lawrence. His expertise, professionalism, and attention to detail are second to none. A big portion of my job involves driving, so when I recently received a traffic infraction I decided to look into options rather than just “lying down” and allowing it to go onto my driving record. I reached out to Mr. Lawrence and I am extremely glad I did. After reaching out and paying the retainer, he assured me that “he had it handled from here”. Everything went extremely smooth. He was always quick to respond to any questions I had and he kept me in the loop with what was going on with my case. He went to court and represented me, I didn’t even have to go at all… and the best part is, he got my ticket totally dismissed!! What more could I ask for? I would recommend him to anyone looking to be represented, and if I ever need his assistance again in the future ( *knock on wood* hopefully I don’t!!), I will definitely be reaching back out to him. Thanks again Mr Lawrence!!!! YOU ROCK!

Great lawyer! He has represented me on a few occasions. Hard working and knows his stuff. He is always straight forward and communicative through out the entire ordeal. He does not brush you off or talk down, as other lawyers sometimes do. He seems to have a good rapport with judges and prosecutors no matter what area. I would be glad to have him represent again if ever needed.

During the few months that my case was processed, Jason went the extra mile to help me to understand exactly what my situation involved. He took the time to relieve my concerns and explain in terms I could understand, exactly what my options were. He provided compassionate advice while accurately describing the options I had and the ramifications my decisions moving forward, could have on the outcome of my case. Ultimately we decided the best course of action was to contest the validity of the allegations. After 2 hearings in front of the judge, it was such a relief that my case was dismissed. I feel that with a different attorney I would definitely have been looking at a much different outcome. I credit Jason's confidence and proactive approach as well as an open line for consistent communication, to the outcome of my case. I was very grateful to have someone on my team willing to take the time and really put forth such an exceptional effort. I would, (and have) recommended Jason to anyone I have encountered that might have the need for legal consultation.

Kelly contacted me about my case at the SCC in 2018, where I had been transferred to , after I had completing an eight year sentence for a crime that I did not commit. I explained the facts of my case to her, and she agreed to represent me in my upcoming SVP trial. With her choice of a second chair, and expert witnesses. She proceeded to annihilate the, Washington State Attorney General's so called, "case". I owe my very freedom to this smart, honest, beautiful, trial savvy woman, and Most Excellent Attorney. If not for her, I would have been spending the rest of my life at the SCC. Thanks again Kelly !

What a Sex Crime Lawyer Can Do for You

A sex crime lawyer specializes in defending individuals accused of sexual offenses, which can include charges such as sexual assault, rape, indecent exposure, child pornography, solicitation, and other related crimes. Being charged with a sex crime carries severe legal and social consequences, including potential imprisonment, mandatory registration as a sex offender, fines, and long-term stigma. A sex crime lawyer has the expertise to navigate the complex legal system, protect your rights, and develop a strategic defense to achieve the best possible outcome for your case.

When Should I Hire a Sex Crime Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a sex crime lawyer immediately if:

  • You are under investigation: If law enforcement contacts you for questioning or you become aware that you are a suspect in a sex crime investigation, it's crucial to seek legal representation before speaking with authorities.
  • You have been arrested or charged: Promptly hiring a lawyer upon arrest or formal charges allows for early intervention in your case, which can be critical for your defense.
  • Searches and seizures have occurred: If your property, such as your home or electronic devices, has been searched or seized in connection with a sex crime investigation, a lawyer can help protect your rights.
  • You are facing related legal issues: If you're dealing with restraining orders, custody disputes, or other legal matters stemming from the allegations, a lawyer can provide comprehensive legal support.

What Does a Sex Crime Lawyer Do?

A sex crime lawyer provides a range of legal services to defend and support you throughout the legal process:

  • Legal consultation and advice: They will explain the charges against you, outline your rights, and advise you on the best course of action.
  • Case investigation: The lawyer will conduct a thorough investigation, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and identifying inconsistencies or weaknesses in the prosecution's case.
  • Defense strategy development: They will develop a tailored defense strategy, which may include challenging the credibility of evidence, disputing the legality of how evidence was obtained, or presenting alternative explanations.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: Your lawyer can negotiate plea bargains or reduced charges when appropriate, aiming to minimize potential penalties.
  • Court representation: They will represent you in all court proceedings, including hearings, trials, and sentencing, advocating on your behalf.
  • Protecting your rights: The lawyer ensures that your constitutional rights are upheld throughout the legal process, including protection against unlawful searches, coerced confessions, or violations of due process.
  • Post-trial assistance: If necessary, they can assist with appeals, sentence modifications, or matters related to sex offender registration.

How Are Sex Crime Lawyers Paid?

Sex crime lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee for the time spent working on your case. Rates can vary widely based on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fee: A set amount that covers specific services or the entirety of your case, which can provide cost predictability.
  • Retainer fee: An upfront payment from which the lawyer deducts hourly fees and expenses as they work on your case. You may need to replenish the retainer if it is exhausted.
  • Payment plans: Some lawyers offer payment arrangements to make their services more affordable over time.

It's important to discuss payment structures and fees during your initial consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does a Sex Crime Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a sex crime lawyer depends on various factors, including the complexity of the case, the severity of the charges, and the lawyer's experience. General cost estimates are:

  • Hourly rates: Typically range from $200 to $500 or more per hour.
  • Flat fees: For less complex cases, flat fees might range from $5,000 to $25,000.
  • Total costs: Complex cases involving extensive investigation or a trial can cost $25,000 to $100,000 or more.
  • Additional costs: May include expert witness fees, investigative expenses, and court fees.

Always request a detailed fee agreement and discuss potential additional costs to avoid unexpected expenses.

  • List of questions: Prepare questions about your case, the legal process, and the lawyer's experience.
  • Honesty: Be prepared to discuss all details openly and honestly; attorney-client privilege ensures confidentiality.
