I sought David's counsel after I was charged with a serious crime in 2021. I had never used any type of legal counsel up until that point so while I can't give a baseline of how the process typically works I can confidently say that David was responsive, diligent, and engaged from our first conversation. What I know makes David and Wyrsch Hobbs & Mirakian unique is that they genuinely care more about the person they are representing than the professional client. Our case lasted over 3 years and David was much more than an attorney, he was a lifeline in a time of desperate need. David cares about all of his clients and it shows in the results both legally and personally. I'm incredibly grateful we selected David to represent me in the toughest time of my life and can not adequately convey just how great of a person David Bell and the team over at WH&M are. If you find yourself in need of a defense attorney call David as he excels in making difficult situations much more manageable and will do everything in his power to achieve the best possible outcome for his client both personally and legally.

I had a bad situation last December of 2023, that required me to be physically aggressive. My sister and I were both sexually harassed and physically attacked by a complete stranger, after I got off from work downtown. We were both physically hurt and still had to explain our cases to a judge at Municipal Court. David Bell was recommended to me by a court advocate representing me with NewHouse Domestic Violence Shelter. His sense of humor is quite eclectic and he's very passionate about helping his clients. He's very intelligent, too! David knows the law! David was patient and sympathetic about my situation from the beginning. He both assured and reassured me that he would handle my case, as Iong as I listened to his expertise. I had no choice but to. My case was dismissed today, and although I wanted to make an appearance to my last court hearing, David told me to relax, stay at work, and let him take care of my case. I trusted him and my outcome was successful! Thank you so much for helping me with this case. One less burden I have to carry on my shoulders. I highly recommend hiring David Bell for legal representation!

I received Mr. Bell's name when I asked an attorney friend for recommendations. He is extremely well respected in the Attorney community. I had such an incredible experience. We had 2 to 3 conversations on the phone about my predicament. He helped coach me out of my twisted mindset that the stalkerwas my fault. He gave me honest and objective advice about a restraining order. During our initial conversation, he said "First of all, you need to think about getting a therapist. An experience like this is profoundly stressful." It was a healing and vindicating comment, as I was having a really hard time emotionally with the situation. I never thought of an attorney as a healer, but David is.

Let me sum it up! ATTORNEY SHEENA FOYE IS A GOD SEND! I lived a true nightmare for a year and a half before Sheena was recommended to me!!! I talked to attorney after attorney, hiring one before Sheena and truly had given up any hope that my case could be beat, only maybe if we took it to a juror trial and then one can only hope! But, guess what!?! Sheena had it dismissed before my court date!!! I had 10 tons lifted off me by hearing those words, DISMISSED!!! Thank you so much Attorney Sheena Foye!!!

My case was a very complicated because it was from 1998 and a different state, so after speaking with Sheena Foye I hired her as my lawyer. And she was very professional and knowledgeably, Although my case did take some time Sheena keep me informed about was happening and answered all of my questions and concerns. And she did win my case so I highly recommend her if you are in a jam. Because she is one of the best.

Sheena handled my DV case with assertiveness and sympathy. She was determined, knowledgeable, and persistent on getting me the most favorable outcome possible. I always was informed of the process and what to expect. I would highly recommend Sheena to represent me again, hopefully won’t be needing that, so I recommend her to anyone facing criminal charges.

I knew my son was facing a very serious charge, I paid 20,000 for representation that I feel a public defender could have done. I felt like he absolutely did not fight for my son at all, whatever the prosecutor said , is what it was. My son has never been in any type of trouble, and any time I would mention anything with his case that I looked up on my own he would say oh that doesn’t apply to his case. My son was never showed any evidence that they supposedly had against him. Communication with the attorney was not the best, he would respond when it was convenient. I was told after the case was over, if you ever have any questions feel free to reach out, I did and never heard back from him. I guess after getting his money, his job was done…. Don’t say reach out with questions if you know you’re not going to keep your word. He had me believing the whole time he would do all he could to help my son, he still got screwed in the end.

My case involved several delays that were likely not directly anyone's fault, up to and, very literally, including the weather. In the end, Mr. Christie was able to get me a better result than I expected. I'm a free man. I thank him for his efforts and recommend hiring him.

What a Sex Crime Lawyer Can Do for You

A sex crime lawyer specializes in defending individuals accused of sexual offenses, which can include charges such as sexual assault, rape, indecent exposure, child pornography, solicitation, and other related crimes. Being charged with a sex crime carries severe legal and social consequences, including potential imprisonment, mandatory registration as a sex offender, fines, and long-term stigma. A sex crime lawyer has the expertise to navigate the complex legal system, protect your rights, and develop a strategic defense to achieve the best possible outcome for your case.

When Should I Hire a Sex Crime Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a sex crime lawyer immediately if:

  • You are under investigation: If law enforcement contacts you for questioning or you become aware that you are a suspect in a sex crime investigation, it's crucial to seek legal representation before speaking with authorities.
  • You have been arrested or charged: Promptly hiring a lawyer upon arrest or formal charges allows for early intervention in your case, which can be critical for your defense.
  • Searches and seizures have occurred: If your property, such as your home or electronic devices, has been searched or seized in connection with a sex crime investigation, a lawyer can help protect your rights.
  • You are facing related legal issues: If you're dealing with restraining orders, custody disputes, or other legal matters stemming from the allegations, a lawyer can provide comprehensive legal support.

What Does a Sex Crime Lawyer Do?

A sex crime lawyer provides a range of legal services to defend and support you throughout the legal process:

  • Legal consultation and advice: They will explain the charges against you, outline your rights, and advise you on the best course of action.
  • Case investigation: The lawyer will conduct a thorough investigation, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and identifying inconsistencies or weaknesses in the prosecution's case.
  • Defense strategy development: They will develop a tailored defense strategy, which may include challenging the credibility of evidence, disputing the legality of how evidence was obtained, or presenting alternative explanations.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: Your lawyer can negotiate plea bargains or reduced charges when appropriate, aiming to minimize potential penalties.
  • Court representation: They will represent you in all court proceedings, including hearings, trials, and sentencing, advocating on your behalf.
  • Protecting your rights: The lawyer ensures that your constitutional rights are upheld throughout the legal process, including protection against unlawful searches, coerced confessions, or violations of due process.
  • Post-trial assistance: If necessary, they can assist with appeals, sentence modifications, or matters related to sex offender registration.

How Are Sex Crime Lawyers Paid?

Sex crime lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee for the time spent working on your case. Rates can vary widely based on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fee: A set amount that covers specific services or the entirety of your case, which can provide cost predictability.
  • Retainer fee: An upfront payment from which the lawyer deducts hourly fees and expenses as they work on your case. You may need to replenish the retainer if it is exhausted.
  • Payment plans: Some lawyers offer payment arrangements to make their services more affordable over time.

It's important to discuss payment structures and fees during your initial consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does a Sex Crime Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a sex crime lawyer depends on various factors, including the complexity of the case, the severity of the charges, and the lawyer's experience. General cost estimates are:

  • Hourly rates: Typically range from $200 to $500 or more per hour.
  • Flat fees: For less complex cases, flat fees might range from $5,000 to $25,000.
  • Total costs: Complex cases involving extensive investigation or a trial can cost $25,000 to $100,000 or more.
  • Additional costs: May include expert witness fees, investigative expenses, and court fees.

Always request a detailed fee agreement and discuss potential additional costs to avoid unexpected expenses.

How to Check the Credibility of a Sex Crime Lawyer

  • Verify their license: Ensure the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state's bar association.
  • Experience and specialization: Look for a lawyer who specializes in criminal defense with a focus on sex crime cases.
  • Client reviews and testimonials: Research online reviews or ask for references to learn about other clients' experiences.
  • Professional memberships: Membership in organizations like the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) can indicate a commitment to the field.
  • Disciplinary record: Check for any past disciplinary actions or complaints filed against the lawyer.
  • Consultation feedback: Use the initial consultation to assess their communication style, professionalism, and confidence in handling your case.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a sex crime lawyer, bring the following:

  • Detailed account of events: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, locations, and any conversations.
  • Legal documents: Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Arrest records
    • Charging documents
    • Bail paperwork
    • Search warrants
    • Any correspondence from law enforcement or the court
  • Witness information: Provide names and contact information of any potential witnesses who can support your defense.
  • Evidence: Bring any physical evidence or records that may be relevant, such as emails, text messages, or social media interactions.
  • List of questions: Prepare questions about your case, the legal process, and the lawyer's experience.
  • Honesty: Be prepared to discuss all details openly and honestly; attorney-client privilege ensures confidentiality.
  • Goals and objectives: Be clear about what you hope to achieve, whether it's dismissing charges, reducing penalties, or addressing registration as a sex offender.

By being thoroughly prepared, you enable the lawyer to assess your situation effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your case.
