Jose Klein is a very intelligent, compassionate lawyer, and an overall really nice person! He listened to me rant and rave about the treatment I endured from my former employer, and never once made me feel silly or out of line. He was the only person who actually acknowledged that it was wrong how they treated me, and that was really huge for me in that moment. He isn’t only kind and attentive to your concerns, but he’s also a genius and can truly hear what you are saying, and articulate it back and into a way that actually makes sense. I have nothing but great things to say about Jose and Damien, and I definitely recommend them to anyone who needs a top notch labor/employment lawyer.

I contacted this firm with some questions about employer privacy law, and slanderous behavior. While they didn't think they could help me, the Operations Manager I spoke with was diligent and respectful of my situation. She advised me about the manner in which my employer might act at this point, and directed me towards resources that might be helpful without charging a dime. I only wish they could take my case. Thank you for being a breath of fresh air!

Honestly, look no further. In my opinion, there is no better employment and civil rights attorney in Oregon or Washington. He represented me skillfully, and I would recommend Jose Klein, Esq. with zero hesitation. He’s super smart and will get you to the finish line with his ability to think about things as a whole. Employment and civil rights cases can be very emotional; and, trust me, you will need an intelligent, level-headed attorney working for you if you want to come out ahead.

I hired Michael Owens and Christina Stephenson as a team to represent me in an employment dispute. Life is certainly not fair and not every dispute requires legal intervention, but when it does the fallout is typically ugly. When I first hired Michael and Christina to look into a Whistleblower retaliation claim, I was reeling from the aftershocks and uncertainty of an unfair termination just days before Christmas. Would I lose my house? Would I be able to afford to keep my child in school? How would I regain my confidence that I could find a job where I wouldn't be punished for trying to do the right thing? This isn't the state of mind from which a person typically has the presence to right a wrong or set the record straight and the law provides some remedy, but on a pretty tight timeline. Michael and Christina both took the time needed to listen, understand the case, and sort the legal issues involved from perception and emotion. They were able to help me understand the difference between what is illegal and what is unfair and to direct me to seek the appropriate remedies for each. When it came to what was illegal, they were perceptive, smart, organized and thorough in their review and presentation of the facts. When it came to what was unfair, they respectfully listened, but also encouraged me to continue seeking the remedy of time and introspection to heal. In this way they were skillful advocates. Knowing that they were capably handling the legal arguments related to my values of transparency, efficiency and accountability allowed me to shore up my life, make sure my child and home were safe and to process what had happened. Prior to ever pursuing a legal remedy for a dispute, I would caution anyone to ask if your values compel you to spend years reliving something unfair and disruptive to your life. If the conclusion you reach says, "I couldn't live with myself if I didn't do this," then you would be lucky to have the professional, capable and kind representation of Michael Owens and Christina Stephenson.

I hired Mr. Owens to help me prepare my case for an unemployment benefits appeal hearing. His input was invaluable in helping me put together a very solid and concise case to prove my side of the story. He was clearly an expert in the state employment code, and pointed me to the most important and relevant statutes to my case therein. He also showed that he really cared about me and the results of my case, and was conscientious about follow-up. I would highly recommend Mike Owens to anyone in need of an employment attorney.

Mike was a fantastic resource to have in my corner! With his skillful representation, I was able to obtain a positive result that I would have had no chance of reaching otherwise. Mike is sharp-minded, very ethical, and personable. He made me feel validated and supported, with an honest and realistic approach to explaining how the law views the issues. He never pushed me toward a particular decision, but rather made sure that I completely understood all of my options at all times, and provided his best recommendations so that I could decide myself. Mike truly cares about fighting for the best possible outcome for each individual, whatever that takes. His fee structure is fair, and made representation accessible to me. I can't thank him enough for his help! Thank you, Mike!!!

Approximately 20 years ago, Mitra Shahri represented me in a very heinous and complex case against the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department while assuming the role as a Deputy Sheriff and on the basis of "Sever Retaliation," for having testified against another deputy regarding his "Unlawful Criminal Acts." While the deputy ended up in "Termination from the Sheriffs Department," the "Harassment and Retaliation," was above imagination. It was by the "Grace of God," that has led me to the "Outstanding" representation of Mitra Shahri in Southern California. I have often thought of her and she will always and forever remain in a very, "Special Place in My Heart...." Luv you, Mitra! Ruthie

I can't thank Daniel Snyder and his team enough for helping me through the most traumatizing experience in my career. Living with a disability is already difficult itself, but then to have an employer that discriminates against you is devastating. I worked for a public agency that denied my ADA accommodations and engaged in unfair labor practices. I was chronically treated differently, unfairly and badly by my employer and after filing a BOLI complaint, they retaliated against me leading to my termination. Daniel Snyder came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Feeling hopeless, I scheduled a consultation with Mr. Snyder. Immediately I felt supported and I knew he was the right attorney to help me. Dan is a straight shooter and follows through with what he says. He was not intimidated to represent me against a public agency of attorneys. He is confident and will go above and beyond the call of duty leaving no rock unturned. Because of his hard work and excellent legal tactics I was able to get justice! Thank you Dan and team for your support. I absolutely encourage anyone that is seeking an attorney that will have your back to choose, DANIEL SNYDER!

I was enrolled and through 2 years of my graduate program for a Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree while in the final term, registered to graduate and with a 3.24 GPA. I was ready to walk across the stage to complete my life's dream and then become a therapist. I was kicked out abruptly without reason or incident, and it was shortly after a medical event. I immediately started the search for a lawyer and connected with Daniels assistant, Paul, who was right away able to connect Dan with me, who took down all the relevant details. Nearly two years later, Dan has personally represented me and took my life back from those that injured me. Throughout the entire time of representing me, Dan would personally email me within seconds to minutes of my communication, it was incredible. He was confident and knowledgeable, organized and tactful and intelligent, absolutely the caliber of person who should have a role dealing with laws and justice. The two parties that were against me both had no choice but to settle, and I am now living my life more healthy and happy than I have been in many years, and I owe much of this to Dan and his law offices.

I did not know at the time hiring Daniel Snyders law firm would be one of the best decision I have made in my life. I was recommended to this firm by someone I could trust. Unsure and unclear of my case. Dan’s firm took my case and went to work. Never did they give up or throw the towel in. My case went on for over four years. This firm undoubtably is proficient and a master class in law. I would not hesitate to higher this firm. My time was not wasted just to get a billable hour. Very direct and to the point. If there is anyone that knows employment law it is Daniel Synder law firm!

I hired Ashley at a time in my life when I desperately needed a powerful advocate in my corner. Ashley represented me as one of the many women who were subjected to sexual harassment in Oregon's State Legislature. She always put my needs first and she worked hard to bring accountability to the people and systems that have avoided it for too long. I appreciate all of the time, effort, professionalism, and dedication Ashley put into protecting my privacy, fighting for me, communicating with me, and bringing justice to a really terrible time in my life. I highly recommend Ashley and her firm.

If you are facing not one but multiple criminal charges (counts) involving the operation of a motor vehicle which carry the potential consequences of jail time and a big license suspension if convicted, there is good news. You can call Ben and Mark. Prior to facing this type of vexing ordeal, I had never been arrested in my lifetime. My case went all the way past a favorably conducted evidentiary hearing and legal conferences, just shy of having a 6-person jury trial scheduled with the Court over several months (longer than a year)—where Ben and Mark tirelessly, diligently, masterfully worked as the lead Attorney on defeating the entire case. All charges are being dismissed! Thank you.

Mr. Crispin assisted me out of a bad employment contract, but I had to repeat myself many times in our communications. The opposing counsel was told they were in a penalty period, reducing our payment. Items I requested to be negotiated were not, and I was not advised on the legality of an action I took and the risk it may pose. The last communication I received was one to address something from the opposing counsel that had been sent two weeks prior to his email to me and allowed to go ignored. For all I paid I do not feel it was worth paying for legal services given the lack of action.

I hired Mr. Crispin after having been a victim of discriminatory and workplace harassment following a request for a reasonable accommodation from a former employer. Initially, I was elated to have such a elite attorney not only agree to take on my case, but also to have had him agree to do so on a contingency basis — being that I was broke and barely employed at the time. Nevertheless, due to my own inability to trust in others, I grew wearily suspicious after having signed paperwork of which I had originally THOUGHT would somehow leave me penniles; that is, considering there was even any judgement in my favor to begin with. Additionally, I had initially sensed that Mr. Crispin didn’t actually believe me or my account of what had occurred; this lead to even further doubt of his abilities (at least, in my opinion). Nonetheless, all of the unfounded (and incorrect) assumptions couldn’t have been any further from the truth! And never did this become more apparent than the day that he and his paralegal represented me. Mr. Crispin was so unbelievably calm, collected and well-prepared that I was utterly astounded. Needless to say, Mr. Crispin was able to get me what I had so desperately needed (in a number of ways). All in all, Craig Crispin possesses all of the qualities that anyone could ever ask for — and this is clearly the reason why he is so successful in what he does.

What a Sexual Harassment Lawyer Can Do for You

A sexual harassment lawyer specializes in representing individuals who have experienced unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that affects their employment or creates a hostile work environment. These lawyers help victims understand their rights under federal and state laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and guide them through the process of filing complaints, negotiating settlements, or pursuing litigation. They also assist employers in implementing anti-harassment policies, conducting investigations, and defending against claims.

Whether you're an employee facing harassment or an employer seeking to address or prevent harassment claims, a sexual harassment lawyer can provide the legal expertise needed to navigate these sensitive issues.

When Should I Hire a Sexual Harassment Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a sexual harassment lawyer in the following situations:

  • For Employees:
    • Experiencing workplace harassment: If you are subjected to unwelcome sexual advances, comments, or behavior that creates a hostile or offensive work environment, a lawyer can help you understand your rights and the steps to take.
    • Retaliation for reporting harassment: If you've reported harassment to your employer and are facing retaliation such as demotion, termination, or other adverse actions, a lawyer can help protect your rights.
    • Failure of employer to address complaints: If your employer does not take appropriate action after you've reported harassment, a lawyer can advise on how to escalate the matter legally.
    • Constructive dismissal: If the harassment is so severe that you feel forced to resign, a lawyer can help you pursue a claim for constructive dismissal.
    • Negotiating settlements: If you're considering a settlement with your employer, a lawyer can negotiate on your behalf to ensure you receive fair compensation.
  • For Employers:
    • Receiving a harassment complaint: If an employee has filed a harassment complaint, a lawyer can guide you through the legal obligations for investigating and addressing the complaint.
    • Implementing anti-harassment policies: A lawyer can help you develop and implement policies and training programs to prevent harassment and protect your organization legally.
    • Defending against claims: If your organization is facing a harassment lawsuit, a lawyer can represent you in court or during settlement negotiations.

Hiring a lawyer early can help ensure that your rights are protected and that you take the appropriate legal steps.

What Does a Sexual Harassment Lawyer Do?

A sexual harassment lawyer provides various legal services depending on whether they represent the employee or the employer. Their responsibilities often include:

  • For Employees:
    • Legal consultation: Provide advice on your rights and the merits of your case, helping you understand the legal definitions of harassment and applicable laws.
    • Filing complaints: Assist in filing a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or state agencies, ensuring that all procedural requirements are met.
    • Negotiating settlements: Engage in negotiations with the employer to secure compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or punitive damages.
    • Litigation: Represent you in court if a lawsuit is filed, presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments to support your case.
    • Protection against retaliation: Advise on how to handle retaliation from your employer and take legal action if necessary.
  • For Employers:
    • Policy development: Help create comprehensive anti-harassment policies and training programs to prevent harassment in the workplace.
    • Internal investigations: Guide the investigation process when a complaint is made, ensuring it is thorough, impartial, and compliant with legal standards.
    • Legal defense: Represent the company in responding to EEOC complaints or lawsuits, aiming to resolve the matter efficiently and protect the organization's interests.
    • Compliance advice: Keep the company informed about changes in employment laws related to harassment and recommend best practices to maintain compliance.

How Are Sexual Harassment Lawyers Paid?

Sexual harassment lawyers typically charge for their services in various ways, depending on the nature of the case and representation:

  • For Employees:
    • Contingency fee: Many lawyers represent employees on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case. The fee is usually a percentage of the recovered amount, typically ranging from 25% to 40%.
    • Hourly rate: Some lawyers may charge an hourly rate, especially if the case is unlikely to result in monetary compensation but still requires legal assistance.
  • For Employers:
    • Hourly rate: Lawyers representing employers usually charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $200 to $600 or more, depending on their experience and the case complexity.
    • Retainer: Employers may pay a retainer fee for ongoing legal services, especially if they require regular legal counsel on employment matters.

It's important to discuss fees during the initial consultation to understand the cost structure and any additional expenses.

How Much Does a Sexual Harassment Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a sexual harassment lawyer varies based on several factors:

  • For Employees:
    • Contingency fees: If working on a contingency basis, you typically won't pay any upfront fees. If you win or settle, the lawyer's fee will be a percentage of the compensation. For example, if you settle for $50,000 with a 30% contingency fee, the lawyer would receive $15,000.
    • Hourly rates: If charged hourly, fees can range from $200 to $600 per hour. Total costs depend on the number of hours worked.
  • For Employers:
    • Hourly rates: Legal fees can range from $200 to $600 per hour. A straightforward case might cost between $5,000 and $20,000, while more complex litigation could exceed $50,000.
    • Retainer fees: Ongoing legal services may require a retainer ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the anticipated legal work.

Always request a detailed fee agreement to understand all potential costs.

Top Questions to Ask a Sexual Harassment Lawyer

Before hiring a sexual harassment lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with sexual harassment cases?
Ensure the lawyer has a strong background in handling cases similar to yours.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Understand the fee structure, including contingency fees, hourly rates, and any additional costs.
  3. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Get an honest assessment to set realistic expectations.
  4. What is the likely timeline for my case?
Ask how long the process might take, from filing a complaint to resolution.
  5. Will my case go to trial?
Discuss the likelihood of settling versus going to court.
  6. How involved will I need to be?
Understand what will be required of you throughout the process.
  7. What outcomes can I expect?
Discuss potential remedies, such as compensation, policy changes, or reinstatement.

How to Check the Credibility of a Sexual Harassment Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable lawyer:

  • Verify their license: Check with your state bar association to confirm they are licensed and in good standing.
  • Review their experience: Look for lawyers who specialize in employment law, particularly sexual harassment cases.
  • Read client reviews: Check online reviews and testimonials on platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should provide references from past clients.
  • Professional memberships: Membership in organizations like the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) can indicate a focus on employment law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting:

  • Detailed account: Prepare a written timeline of incidents, including dates, locations, and individuals involved.
  • Documentation: Bring any relevant documents, such as emails, text messages, voicemails, photographs, or witness statements.
  • Employment records: Provide your employment contract, employee handbook, performance reviews, and any prior complaints filed.
  • Questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  • List of witnesses: Note any colleagues or individuals who may have witnessed the harassment or can support your claims.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide accurate legal advice.
