During the years I needed Mr. Phillip Chalker expertise on three separate occasions. First, with a tenant that refused to leave the property. Secondly, was with a contract release of a shady management company. Finally, a mutual lease break with multi-tenants. Mr. Chalker's knowledge and quick action was everything I would hope for in a lawyer. All three occasions ended in my favor thanks to him. He's definitely my go to lawyer because I know I will receive focused attention and great results.

I am a disabled attorney. I picked Tim to represent me in my Social Security Disability Claim. He has an excellent knowledge of the law and the parties involved in the system. He knows how to present a case before various personalities which is essential. Tim did an outstanding job for me. Having been a practicing attorney, I have worked with many attorneys. When it came to my personal case, I chose Tim to represent me for my Social Security Claim.

I was LUCKY enough to accidentally find/meet David Jackson the same week I got turned down for disability though anybody w/ eyes could see I am very Disabled. He was understanding, intelligent, explained everything I didn't understand and THROUGHOUT the case, answered my emails promptly and explained whatever was confusing to me without talking -down- to me. My family and I could TELL he was a TRUSTWORTHY and HONEST man just by the professional yet caring way he helped and worked hard to get me the benefits I needed. I truly believe it was fate that lead us to his office two days after getting turned down a second time. I don't know what *you* find important in a lawyer but professionalism, skill, intellect, and knowledge of the law obviously comes first. Yet isn't it an added bonus to have someone THAT skilled on *your* team that is working for YOU, cares about YOUR health, YOUR problems, knows your name, issues , and ALSO treats you & your family with a degree of warmth and respect that most lawyers seem to lack?? In doctors, they call it "A GREAT bedside manner". I don't know what to call it in an attorney except for surprising and appreciated!! Do you want a lawyer that is JUST after a paycheck?! Or do you want one that wants to get you ALL the help, benefits, and care that you deserve?!? I for one wanted an attorney that didn't just "know his stuff", but ALSO treated me like he was on -my- team and wasn't going to stop until EVERY avenue had been crossed. If you want a lawyer that is going to battle for your rights and take on the 'big guys' with AND for you, David Jackson, Esquire is your man!! The BEST legal experience I have ever faced because I knew I wasn't "alone"!!! No tricks, no dishonesty, no slippery ambulance chasers. Just a TRUE BLUE lawyer that is an experienced man of the law, upholds it, yet cares for the average person and does everything he can for them. Choosing Mr. Jackson was one of the wisest decisions I think I have ever made. I hope you do too.

On Tuesday, May 28, 2024 I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Emmett B. Irwin, P.C. to determine based on the seriousness of my present health issues and symptoms (as well as foreseeable long term symptoms) if I would qualify for SS Disability Insurance at this time. Being self-employed as a full time Realtor for 29 years and after reviewing my Earnings Record for the last 10 years and what I paid in (or was Taxed for Social Security and Medicare in these last 10 years) Mr. Irwin determined I would not qualify for SS Disability Insurance (no matter how sick I am). Although I found this very disappointing to hear (and it made me realize how messed up our SS Disability System is here in Maryland) I found Mr. Irwin to be very knowledgeable, thorough and professional through out our entire conversation. If I qualified for SS Disability I certainly would have elected to have Mr. Irwin represent me.

I highly recommend Brown Law as my son faced some serious criminal charges that was sure to be life altering had he not had an expert criminal defense lawyer and team. Justin and his team every step of the way eased my concerns and hear my heart as a mother through this difficult and tough case. Justin took the time to explain the process and the law no matter the question. Justin and his team treated my son and family with much respect and compassion. Justin got back to me promptly every time I called the office. I’m grateful for his expertise, compassion, and heart for the law in seeing justice prevail! Justin prevailed in my son case and I am grateful!

I feel that the Law Firm of C. Justin Brown went above and beyond in their representation of me. The Brown Law Firm were appointed by the court to represent me in a federal compassionate release motion. The motion was prepared by Lily Romero, and granted, under the condition I spend 4 months on home confinement. I spent 16 years, 7 months, 2 weeks, and 10 hours in federal custody awaiting that day. And Lily continued to represent me even after release by filing motions for me to attend family holiday events, and now filing a motion for me to be released from home confinement early. She also filed a motion for the courts to waive the fees associated with my home confinement, which was granted. All of these motions, after my release, were filed without charge. I’m forever grateful to the Brown Law Firm and Lily Romero for giving me a reinvigorated opportunity at life.

If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and myself had a bad experience with Marcy Block. We dealt with her for approximately 4 -5 years. We trusted her to handle our issues with our taxes. We took for granted that everything would be resolved. Recently, we received documents from the IRS that not only going into collections, but she failed to file some of our taxes from previous years. My husband had to hire a representative from Optima Taxes in order to avoid having our wages garnished. This experience has taught us a lot, and it is unfortunate that we had to endure this entire ordeal.

They are quick to take payment for service but extremely slow to do anything. Huge lack in communication and you will go weeks without hearing from them. **** ON BEHALF OF MY MOTHER**** I have a workers compensation case that Bruce Ingerman represented me in and the paralegal is Barry. I have been trying for five years to get treatment without any help. Barry advised me to use my personal insurance for treatments which I did until I ran out of coverage and money. I kept calling and emailing with basically no response until I went down to their office last year and spoke with the receptionist who guaranteed Barry would return my call. She did but gave me the same story waiting for adjuster. I called and spoke with Bruce since Barry was doing nothing and he advised me to come in as I was running out of time for worker’s compensation to cover my treatments. I scheduled an appointment with him for that same week. Can you believe I went to the appointment and Mr Ingerman did not see me. Barry spoke to me and informed me Bruce was busy with a new client but she was still working on getting the authorization. She sent me to the doctor who recommended treatment and imaging. I am still waiting for the authorization to get these done. Barry claims inability to reach adjuster and usually does not return calls, emails or text messages. I am unable to work and constantly in pain but it seems Barry and her company does not care about those they represent. Professionally I ensured others where treated as humans and helped them on their road to recovery. Now to be treated this way is simple inhumane. It’s been five years of constant pain and feelings of desperation at the hands of Bruce and Barry. I am sorry I chose this company to represent me.

It truly hurts me to write this review, however Rene Kendall leaves me no choice. I have been a client of Bruce Ingerman since 2007. I have referred countless State Employees and civilians to this office over 17 years. Now I am being neglected by this firm. I was injured while working for the State of Maryland, I do receive an ILOD pension. I have been getting treatment for my injuries up Until 2023. My medical providers have been trying to get in contact with my paralegal Rene Kendall for over a year and Rene refuses to return my calls/emails as well as my providers call. Workers comp hasn't paid any of my medical bills since 2021. Now I am receiving the bills. I don't want to file a complaint with Bar Association, Maryland States Attorney or Workers comp commission however due to your continued neglect of my case I have no choice! I am suffering in pain every day due to no treatment. This is inhumane to treat your client like this! I am taking more pain medication, thinking of suicide because of the pain is unbearable. I don't want to get addicted to the pain medication. I need my medical treatment desperately. My Doctor can't see me, unless my lawyer calls them to ensure payment. All of this could of been taken care of with 1 phone call! It should never take over a year to return a medical providers call. Diana Lyles

If I could give this firm a zero I would. I was in a car wreck almost two years ago and by accident, I found this firm (someone told me a name and I thought it was this one, but it wasn't). I was rushed in signing with them when I only wanted a consultation. I had a concussion so I didn't realize what I was doing until it was done so I went with it. For the entire case, I provided every last doctor's notes and itemized bills. Cindy did not have to spend time requesting them (it saves on costs in the end because they charge a by page fee if they have to request it). I called to get updates. Not once was I called with updates. When I did call, all I was told is that I have to wait for the doctors to discharge me before they would start to do anything. There was a time that I emailed asking for an update and was ignored and the excuse I was given was that Cindy was on vacation. That vacation was for a month. She apparently does everything from what she told me so nothing got done while she was out. There was a time or two that I broke down crying on the phone to her because I was going to cancel the services so that I could deal with the insurance myself. She convinced me to stick with her and she would reduce the 33.3% fee they charge and that Paul would just have to be mad at her after the fact. Well, that was not done. Also, I asked for help with my case because the person that hit me wasn't who he said he was. I want them to help me get the other insurance company to take responsibility instead of using mine which takes a $250 minimum deductible which Cindy said I would get back, but I still have not seen that. When she submitted my paperwork to the insurance, after me asking several times to do so, she charged me to look up one bill which I know I gave her and she never reached out to me to see if I had it. Per my insurance company, the firm was provided one quote and they ran with it and convinced me to take it becuase it was just under my uninsured motorist limit and they wouldnt do anything else. No fight was given. Then Cindy created the paperwork for me to sign. She was so mixed up, the numbers on my first form she wanted me to sign were not my numbers. I asked her again about the reduction of the fee and then all of sudden, she had to ask Paul, who I was told by her that he lives in Florida and she only talks to him one morning a week. I emailed to ask the status and she told me to reach out directly to Paul. I did via email. I got no response. I then sent another and copied Cindy and John since John is the other person in charge apparently. I was ignored. I sent another email and finally Cindy stated she would speak to Paul and have him reach out to me. Well he did today and he called me with a complete attitude. He did not let me speak. He told to to go find another f*ing lawer and pay them money for them to call him. That was very disrespectful and interrupted me after every other word I tried to say then hung up on me. What kind of lawyer does that? I had never spoken to him my entire case. For him to call and start out with an attitude and not hear, or want to hear, anything that I have to say was extremely rude. And for him to curse was very unprofessional. I would never recommend him to anyone, not even my worst enemy if I had one.

Terrible NGO law firm that only takes money from donors to keep their offices running and then do not assist people (unless they are of color) that need and qualify for assistance. We have referred several elderly women to them and they are highly incompetent and negligent. The “paralegals” that they have are not qualified nor do they care.

He was very unprofessional. He barley reached out to me. He didn't not explain to me that I would have time to tell my side of the story and when the judge asked I had nothing prepared. He said just say yes or no. When I got my disability not because of him but because of my work history and medical records, he didn't even reach out to say anything like ...you won! Hope it turned out the way you wanted! Good luck...nothing! He texted me "we can talk Monday"...that was over a month ago! His office was dirty. You can tell he eats on his keyboard. I will not recommend him!!

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
