This review is written with a heavy heart and a deep sense of betrayal. In mid-2021, facing debilitating circumstances, I filed for Social Security disability. I was vulnerable, desperate for help, and I placed my trust in attorney Shay Fugate on June 3rd, 2022. Initially, we connected over a shared love of Elvis Presley, and I dared to hope for a positive outcome.
That hope was quickly dashed. Just a month later, on July 1st, 2022, I received my denial, No surprise there, many are denied on the first attempt. What was shocking was discovering Shay Fugate did not know this and missed the critical deadline to file an appeal. Ms. Fugate's inaction, in contrast, felt like a slap in the face.
What followed was a disturbing pattern of neglect, compounded by Shay Fugate's knack for instilling false hope. She has a talent for telling you exactly what you want to hear, leading you along a path of empty promises. My calls and emails would vanish into a void, only acknowledged when I followed up with a call to her team, who would then miraculously "find" my email while I was on the phone. This happened repeatedly. Feeling like a burden, I reluctantly backed off, trusting that my case was a priority, as Ms. Fugate had assured me I was "top of her list."
Two agonizing years crawled by. Two years where I lived in limbo, my future hanging in the balance, sustained only by the false hope Shay Fugate so readily provided. Then came the devastating blow: a recent call revealed that in those two years, Shay Fugate had not filed a SINGLE document on my behalf. Two years of my life, lost due to sheer negligence and a carefully constructed facade of empty promises.
This isn't just about a missed deadline or unanswered emails. It's about a fundamental breach of trust, a careless disregard for a client's well-being, fueled by the insidious nature of false hope. It's about the profound impact that inaction and deceit can have on a person's life.

No one expects sickness to come. My father was hospitalized and unable to make sound decisions for himself. After a consultation with Mr. Bolves, I was able to obatin the propoer paperwork that would allow me to ensure proper care for my father.
After the initial consultation, documents were prepared and ready for review within a matter of a few days. There I was with recently diagnosed with combat connected PTSD, looking at the diagnosis of Bladder Cancer and facing a series of back surgeries that will leave me a cripple for the next 3 years. I was so depressed I wanted to give up. I had filed with the VA, going from one overworked and sometimes ignorant VSO to another. Some were helpful, but now I was overwhelmed waiting on the VA to answer, only to be denied or told I did not have a form filed correctly. My VA doctors were very good to me but way overworked and restricted by so many rules. Frustration and depression do not heal PTSD. Pain and the drugs the doctors plied me with made me a zombie. Only my faith in my God and Savior keep me from ending my life. My prayers were answered by finding Hill & Ponton on the internet.
Connecting with Lawyer Leslie D. Gaines has been a great experience. Leslie’s experience, professional attitude and patience in dealing with a crusty old veteran renews my faith in humanity. Social Security claimed that I owed $47,000+ for overpayment, and discontinued my benefits. Mr. Auffant convinced them that I didn't owe for overpayment and made them pay my benefits for the 2 months that they cancelled. I didn't pay Social Security for the overpayment claim, and benefits are restored!! James rocks!!

I was almost permanently crippled by an uninsured at fault driver, and other attorneys just told me to sue my own car insurance company for my $10,000 uninsured idiot coverage PIP limit. James was able to get me a quarter million dollars, which enabled me to pay for medical rehab for my shattered spine, live fairly well, and afford my medical treatments for life. He was instrumental in helping me to get social security aid, which other attorneys said I couldn't get. He went "the extra mile" for me, and did what no other of my 5 other attorneys said was possible. I feel a great debt of gratitude towards this guy, as he seemed to REALLY CARE! I highly recommend him, especially with social security cases, in which other attorneys don't have the experience or tenacity to make it happen. After my adult son was in a near-fatal fiery crash, Mike Reese was outstanding in representing him for Social Security benefits, quickly moving his case to a successful SSI hearing.
I was unaware the action of the Social Security Administration from the hearing to actually awarding benefits could take many months. However, when evaluating the attorney who put the process in motion for the client, I could have not been more pleased than I was with the Michael Reese Law Firm.
Unfortunately, after his approval, my son had a misstep which could have caused him to lose all benefits, but Mike immediately filed an appeal. He successfully explained my son’s misunderstanding and had his benefits reinstated.

My lawyer, Dale Albright, was a wonderful attorney. When I made my first call to the office, they were all very helpful and willing to assist in my case. My first consultation they came to my house, which was great. Throughout the entire process, Dale, was always there to help and answer any questions. His response time was usually within 24 hours. I was even given personal contact information should I have needed to contact him after hours. I contacted the Michael Reese Law Firm after my adult son was involved in a near-fatal car accident. I spoke with Nanette Cruz regarding representing him for Social Security benefits. I hired this firm to represent me in a social security disability case. I was initially assigned an inexperienced Immigration attorney to handle my case. SMH. Further, I was eventually granted another attorney and he FAILED to properly handle/litigate my case. He was ill prepared for the hearing even though I asked him to send me a list of questions prior to the hearing. Btw, I lost my case after waiting 3 years for my hearing. There were other issues as well. Do NOT recommend! Note: I hired this attorney outside of Avvo.
