**Exceeds every expectation** If you have a valid claim and you need representation, Andrew Muirhead is the lawyer to call. He's knowledgeable, communicative, aggressive, efficient and thorough beyond expectations to make sure you are informed and prepared for every step of the process. He's on top of every aspect of your case and notifies you of any changes and/or what to expect next. He doesn't drag anything out or leave you waiting for so long you wonder if you've been forgotten in a pile of files on some case managers desk. Andrew is the epitome of integrity and the exception to the industry 'norm' most people are used to.

I hired Andrew Muirhead after attempting to file on my own and getting turned down twice. From the time I met him, Andrew inspired confidence. He is very knowledgeable and experienced. He explained the process to me and even suggested I seek additional medical consultation with a specialist, which I did. Following his advice resulted in strengthening my case. His staff was very diligent in filing documents in a timely manner and keeping me up to date on the progress of my claim. The claim went exactly as he advised me that it would. I was awarded my disability and all has gone smoothly since. I'd recommend Andrew any day. In fact, I did recommend him to someone I know who found it necessary to file.

I began my SSDI application online with absolutely no knowledge of the process. Initially I was denied. It may sound cliche but I turned to Google to find an attorney who specialized in SSDI. I came across Mr. Andrew Muirhead’s law office site. I was apprehensive if Mr. Muirhead would take my case since I started on my own. Not only did he accept the challenge, he advised me step by step how we would proceed. Although there were many appeals and denials, he never gave up. We agreed we would follow this through to the very end. Ultimately after nearly 3 years we decided to reapply. My case was remanded by the appeals council. It took an additional 3 years, almost to the day. He believed in me and read through medical records front to back. I was informed today I was approved fully favorable. I can not express my gratitude for Mr. Muirhead and his office staff. I believe paths cross for a reason and I truly will forever respect and be grateful for the patience, guidance and professionalism he displayed throughout the lengthy process. I would highly recommend his services to anyone in need for a SSDI case. Truth, trust and persistence…thank you Andrew, for everything.

Matt Fendon Law Group came Highly recommended from a well known attorney friend of mine from Chicago, Patricia C. Bobb. They did not disappoint,! They know the Law and did everything to stand up for me in my Workers Comp claim and Social Security Disability cases. Excellent support staff from top to bottom, Deligent, Honest and Overall excellent communication with all Staff. When the Adjuster fought us on specific things like not Authorizing more Physical Therapy for my Workers comp claim they Immediatly submitted a request for a hearing on the matter to the Industrial Commision of Arizona and was approved and resolved in my favor without a hearing. They will stand up for your rights in all and any circumstances and truly are sensitive to your needs and fight for a positive outcome for you. As unfortunate for me having to go thru my claims due to my work related industrial Injury, they kept me on track in a very positive way and I was able to get the Surgeries needed and on my way to being a lot better Phsically with Matt Fendon Law Group fighting for me All the Way. It's been a slow process but they made it seem with their support and expertise like there was always light at the end of the tunnel. Many thanks to Matt and his hard working associates to get me thru this hardship time. Highly Recomend MF Law Group. Regards, Michael A. Zimmer

Matt is a first class attorney. The list of things he did on my case is way to long to put in this revi. Matt took care of EVERYTHING for me. If you are reading these reviews looking for a good workers comp attorney you found the BEST one right here. If you are lucky enough to have Matt accept your case your worries are over. Matt and his staff will handle everything from beginning to end. I started out with a different law firm and had nothing but problems. Then I went and met with Matt and from the day he accepted my case he and his staff handled everything and I never had another problem. One thing I want to point out is that Matt always answered my emails and questions right away. Thanks for always being there for me Matt!!

I am a senior citizen still working. I work for a Goliath company. When I was injured on the job, my injury was ignored, refused and left me intimidated. I didn't know where to go or what to do. I saw a five-star review for Alan Schiffman's on the internet. When I met Alan, at his office, I was so relieved. In the waiting room, walls were covered with awards, plaques for Best Lawyer of the Year, and I felt such relief. Thank you for taking on Goliath and representing me. Thank you, Victor, Debbie and Eric for your support and guidance. I had my surgery, was compensated and you were there to make it all happen. For all seniors still working, for the minorities that need legal consultation, for all the women who need a great advocate, please contact Alan Schiffman. Thank you for changing my life. Linda S H

I hired Mr. Schiffman and his law firm to help me get the benefits that I was awarded, but the insurance company/carrier was dragging their feet on paying out. That was until Mr. Schiffman and his entire, experienced, patient, and fast working staff got involved. To say that I would recommend any person in this world to Alan, and his amazing staff, is exactly what I would do. If you feel you are not being taken serious, or the walls are closing in from bills, overwhelming stress, fear of what your future is looking like, and ultimately, the fear of just not knowing or understanding when, how, or why; You are reading firsthand from that person. So please, take it from someone who has suffered every way that one could during a workers compensation claim, and even though I was beat down, I had lost all hope of ever being treated fairly, or taken seriously, I had one last attempt in me before giving up. And to say everything changed in my favor when I hired Alan, is exactly that. Thank you!

I called several lawyers and I needed my questions answered. But they would not answer me in plain easy-to-understand English. I had three lawyers who wanted to take my case. I could not get them to answer my questions. They kept giving me mumbo-jumbo. My mother unexpectedly died in my arms of a heart attack in April 2022. I was disabled and had not worked in thirty years. I lived with my mom for 57 years. She was divorced and I never married. We were each other's caregivers. She was my best friend. I was frozen with terror as there was no money to take care of myself. I had to sell things I owned and received a loan from a family member. I then received financial aid from D.E.S. programs to help pay my utility bills. This whole time I was stuck for three months feeling very uncomfortable about these other lawyers who gave me disinformation and kept me confused. But they kept sending letters pressuring me to sign their contracts. They treated me like a number instead of a real person who was in extreme grief over losing my mom. So I continued looking for a lawyer and thank you God for letting me see and find Kathryn Dicus. When I called her she answered my legal questions quickly and understandably and I told her that she was the one I wanted to represent me. She was easygoing to talk to. She was honest as I realized that this other lawyer who wanted to represent me had lied to me about the law. I give Katheryn Dicus ten stars!**********

Kathryn is amazing in what she does. I suffer from Dystonia one of those awful invisible illness that most of doctors never hard of. After 2 years with another company, I found Kathryn Dicus on Avvo and scheduled a consultation tham hired her. The process takes time, the first judge already had made up his mind on mot approve my case so she complained about that judge and they assigned me to another judge. The new judge granted me partial disability award on a illness that has no cure. So I got some back pay for 2015, 2016 and 2017. So Kathryn appealed my case to the Federal court and they reversed the state parcial award and granted me total disability on November 2020. I finally got the rest of the back pay, monthly payment and Medicare insurance. It took Kathryn over 7 years but she worked hard on my case with professionalism and patience. If you need a disability attorney, you would be crazy not to hire Kathryn Dicus.

I have been receiving services from Snow Carpio & Weekly since July of 2015 and it has been smooth sailing since then. My lawyer Nicholas Wearne is always in contact with my doctor, my workers compensation adjuster and sends me updated information every 2 weeks. I have found that since choosing this firm to take over my case the stresses of dealing with workers compensation on my own have gone away, my mediation is mailed directly to my front door and my paychecks are always on time. I always heard horror stories from friends who applied for SSDI, all being denied & having to appeal with a hearing, some cases taking years. When I applied in Sept 2019, I prepared for a long wait, waiting for a denial & preparing for a hearing. Then came CV-19 & I was sure I’d be waiting even longer. To my surprise, the case was a complete success in 8 months!! Dustin Jones was my case manager. He answered every question I had, usually quite quickly by email. I know every case is different, but I highly recommend Slepian Smith & his team to take a lot of the stress out of this procedure.

Retaining Wendy Hernandez was one of the best decisions I ever made. She handled my case with the utmost professionalism and care and always demonstrated strong ethics. Her experience and knowledge in her field immediately made me feel comfortable and confident. She was always up to date with the details of my case and stayed one step ahead. Wendy and her team were very communicative, and I always felt like my case was important. When presented with all the facts she helped me build a compelling case and never wavered in the face of challenges. Wendy is sharp, well-spoken, and assertive. Every move was well thought out and calculated, which was crucial to my case. Wendy’s ability in the courtroom, well pleaded motions and responses were always thoughtful and detailed. What is not often spoken about is the work it takes behind the scenes to build a case and research case files to support your position. Wendy did all that while being mindful of my money. She clearly articulated my position which ultimately led to the best possible outcome. Divorce is one of the most difficult things anyone can face. Knowing I had Wendy in my corner made it much easier. Having seen my fair share of attorneys in action, I can honestly say Wendy is an absolute class act. I could not be more grateful to Wendy and her phenomenal paralegal, Jeanine. I felt genuinely taken care of during the entire process. I highly recommend Wendy Hernandez. Thank you for everything you have done for me and my children. I will always consider you more than my attorney, you are a friend.

Didn’t help my autistic daughter. She is a liar! If I could put zero stars I would. Stephanie deserves to have her law license taken away from her. Her appointment start with taking all your info and then they send you a tremendous amount of mail they make appointments with you and if you reschedule, they don’t call you back. They keep asking you if you are going to use their firm and want them to represent you and then they send you a letter after you get everything completed and into your doctor saying that they’re withdrawing from your case. Going to file a complaint with the bar association.

I signed up with her firm in 2022 and waited patiently. They rarely called me to check in. I would send them updates of everything along the way. Bc ai was struggling financially I moved from Az to MO. I updated them by email of everything. Then about 3 weeks before my long awaited hearing in April of 2024 a woman calls me to say she needed me to sit down in that exact moment and recall every doctor I saw bc they did not have anything on record and said she didn’t have a way to research past emails. I explained I have a brain injury and unable to recall these details and had many thing going on that week. Well about 3 days later I got a letter in the mail saying they withdrew as my attorney. I was unable to find anyone to take my case in the short 2 weeks that I had before my hearing so I had to represent myself. A very disappointing experience. No wonder they are trying to change their name. I will also look into any rights that I may have to report them for negligence. I should not been bombarded at the last minute, they should have been more organized and more records of the updates that I constantly emailed to them.

Hired Mr Pekas in 2008 disability claim, I had all my doctors submitted forms/records all supported me, hereditary connective tissue disorder, brain stem compression and more isssues. It is NOT normal to be stuck in the disability application system for 8 YEARS!! I did NOT know that, as I had trusted the Fiduciary/attorney I hired!BIG mistake! Do you know that az arizona has a Rule that Attorney can NOT take more than $6000 fee for disability case? I did NOT know! Well NOW it makes sense WHY i was stuck for 8 years. MONEY!! $6000 fee versus 25% of hundreds of thousands of $$ fee. SHAMEFUL! behavior. My Geneticist I saw in 2015 asked me WHY i had not been approved for disability(as her other 3000 patients with this rare disorder ALL had been approved within 6 to 12 months of their applcation. SHE told me it is fishy and NOT right and to CONTACT my Senator. Bless her! I DID just that. and Bless Senator Mc, who assited me by contacting the Administrative Law judge in dissability division, I was approved shortly after that. Seems, a LOT of my medical records, Doctor forms etc had NOT been submitted, so that is why I kept getting denied( on my final 3rd? appeal/8 years in system!!) of course Mr pekas(with Caldwell Ober in 2008 when I hired him) tried to get 25% of the aprx $150k award(back from 2008 to date approved) even though small monthly $ add up over 8 years!) With Senator help Judge saw what was going on GREED and denied Mr pekas attempt to get the aproximate 30k. These are the facts. ALL medical records gathered by a claimant should be submitted in order to get approved, No attorney should leave any of them out , when asked to submit by a client/claimant.

After getting a denial of my claim from Social Security, I called Mr. Pekas after reading his reviews. I spoke to his assistant on the telephone. She scheduled an appointment for a telephone interview - not to see Mr. Pekas in person. On the appointed date and time, I got the call. It was from the same assistant who asked me a series of questions and subsequently declined to represent me, siting that I was one quarter short and my last day insured was too early. She suggested I could go back to work an additional quarter and maybe I would qualify after my last day insured is updated. I checked with Social Security and confirmed their information was outdated. I got corrected information and Called Mr. Pekas' assistant back, leaving her a detailed message. She never returned my call. I then found another attorney who brought into his office for a consultation, reviewed the same information. This other attorney said he was confident he could help. I hired him instead of Mr. Pekas. Lesson - Attorney should be involved in intake review.

After having a bad experience with my personal injury lawyer and without any referral, I didn't expect much when I called the office of Ober & Pekas, PLLC. However, Jeremy Pekas put me at ease from the very beginning when we first met. He was very reassuring, honest and professional. He explained all my options and laid out a timeline for the entire process. Jeremy handled my case very caring and professionally. He was also very prompt with his replies to my questions. My SSDI case was settled much sooner than I expected. I couldn't be happier & am so thankful to Jeremy for taking my case. I would highly recommend Ober & Pekas, PLLC to anybody looking for Social Security benefits. When you are unable to work due to your illness & physical conditions, the last thing you need is having more disappointments & frustrations. Jeremy Pekas is an attorney you need who is experienced, ethical, caring, and passionate. I wish there're more lawyers like Jeremy.

Tye was a partner along with Eric Slepian when I had my case accepted by their firm. My experience with Tye was less than great. I found him to be very terse and when I was on the phone with him, he gave me the impression that his time was far too valuable for him to be talking with me. Actually did this thing where he made it clear he had just put the phone down until I stopped talking. because I had dared to repeat myself, because he failed to respond to what I had just said not 60 seconds prior. Just my impression, but he seems to lack any real empathy for his clients, and in all, just not a very nice man. I gave him two stars, only because of his years of experience, as I imagine he learned a thing or two from the Slepian family, and for what it was worth, he did make partner at that firm. Not sure how long he was with Eric Slepian, but he was there for two years while my case was in progress. I would recommend Eric Slepian, as I believe he is a second generation disability lawyer. Not sure, but I believe his father was also disability attorney. My case is still pending. Just the process for those of us who do not have slam dunk cases. Its unfortunate that social security obviously want to draw out the process as long as possible, and the pandemic has just made the wait time even longer! Tye may be a good lawyer, I would not know how good of one he is, but his demeanor sure leaves a good bit to be desired!

I am a Navy Veteran who served in uniform for over 30 years. Shorty after retiring in 2010 the VA found me to be 100 percent disabled. I filed for Social Security Disability and was denied. In 2013 I reapplied and was once again turned down. I applied for an appeal and was going to go through the process alone. Two weeks before my court date I saw a TV Commercial about Slepian Law Office. I knew that I was unprepared and lacking the knowledge to represent myself. I gave Slepian a call and they agreed to represent me. This was one of the smartest decisions of my life. My attorney Tye S. Smith and his staff prepared a winning case. He is a true professional. I was amazed at how quickly he understood my military background and how my service connected disabilities impacted my daily life. I could not of asked for better representation. Make the call! I just fired Mary Kay Fowler as my attorney for my social security disability hearing. I never chose her to begin with, the previous attorney simply sent my file to her and I had no energy to object. I received a voicemail from her one day, a few months into her having my case, asking to set up a phone appointment as she had some questions. She also said she would be sending me an email. I called back shortly after she left the voicemail and had to leave a message myself. Didn’t receive a call back and never received that email she said she would send. In my voicemail I said that I had some questions as well about the paperwork they sent me in the mail to have filled out by my doctors and I told them when my doctor’s appointments were. I received no response. Wasted my doctor’s appointments and my time and energy to set them up. Also they never alerted me that they would be sending that paperwork in the mail so it was a complete shock when I received it. I had to do some maneuvering and pull some favors to get the doctor’s appointments in time to have the paperwork filled out by their deadline. All of this went to waste. They should have alerted me that this paperwork was being sent and that I needed it to be filled out by medical professionals so I could set up the appointments and also explain how to fill it out. I need to show that I have been disabled since 2016. It is now 2021 so am I to have this filled out about 2016? Because that’s 5 years ago and I have already submitted paperwork showing that (already had a hearing) and have different doctors now. No response from them until I was fed up and emailed them that I wanted different representation. Literally THREE MINUTES LATER, I’m not even exaggerating, I received an email from them. I was too pissed to respond then and was deciding what I was going to do. The next day I emailed them asking for a digital copy of the paperwork they sent in the mail to be filled out by the doctors. It was then that I was told by her assistant that she only sent that paperwork out because she didn’t have my DLI yet (2016). So essentially she sent me unnecessary paperwork and wasted my time and energy when some days I can barely get out of bed. Now they want to talk and her assistant asks when we can set up an appointment. I’m not confident in her abilities and I am still contemplating what I am going to do. I am referred to an attorney by my doctor and contact them. They say they will review the exhibit file and will let me know what they think about my case. I am still on the edge about if I am going to stick with her or not and just want another attorney’s point of view before I make a decision. I contact Mary Kay’s assistant and ask for my file. She forwards my email to Mary Kay and I actually get a response from her. She tells me to contact the previous attorney for it (who got annoyed with me contacting him when I couldn’t get ahold of Mary Kay, so I don’t know how well that’s going to fare). Also, she demands an answer that Monday (again, it is Friday afternoon) as to if I am going to stick with her or not. I told her that is not enough time for me. I need to get the file and have someone review it to make a decision. She emails me again still demanding a response Monday. This just seals the deal for me that she is NOT the attorney for me. Seriously, she and her assistant only responded when I said I want other representation yet somehow she demands an answer from me that Monday, a business day later? If you can even call it that. With it being Friday afternoon there’s no way I could get the file and have someone review it all in one day on Monday. I most likely would’ve had an answer Tuesday or Wednesday and may have kept her on but her inability to listen to me or keep me informed, her horrible communication (really the lack thereof), her wasting my time, and her ridiculous and impossible deadline leaves me with no faith in her ability to properly represent me whatsoever.

This is a Workers Compensation Lawyer. He won my case and I still wouldn't recomend this lawyer. He's in an office with two other lawyers in the same specialty, and a couple of secretaries yet no one ever answers the phone, you always get voice mail for some reason. The first contact with his office is ok, I left a message and Mr. Testini did call me back the following day, I set up a personal meeting with him and retained his services. Every phone call within the first year except two were answered by voice mail. And out of about 25 calls 20 of them I had to call back at least 1 more time before receiving a return call from a secretary, some times 3 or more times just to get a simple question answered. You really get the impression that you are NOT important to this firm. Like I siad I did win my workers comp case but it was more luck than skill. There are a lot of other lawyers out there, I would pick one of them! Unless you like being disabled and feeling unimportant to your lawyer!

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
