I retained Ruanjsan law firm to help with a case in December 2023. They guided me through the entire process and answered all my questions quickly. They helped me get the best possible outcome. In August 2024, I received a letter from the court with the same charges. I was confused but Ruanjsan law firm looked into it and found it was a duplicate filing and immediately helped me resolved it. I had to attend court again and my attorney came along to help me even though he did not have to and he did not charge me. Their service is unmatched. I highly recommend Ruanjsan law firm!

I initially applied for Social Security Disability benefits and my claim was denied. I referred my case to David Allen to file an appeal and handle my case. They promptly prepared and filed the appeal, I was advised that should the matter require a formal hearing, the process could take upwards of 18 months. After only a few months, we were advised by the Social Security Administration, that upon review of the documents submitted with the appeal, they reconsidered and awarded me the benefits I was due, including retro active payment from the date of occurrence. I was impressed with both the short time it took to resolve the matter, as well as the little effort required on my part, past the initial interview/consultation. They were very professional throughout the process. For these reasons I would highly recommend them for people who could benefit from their services. Ron

When I was turned down for SSI David Allen took over my case immediately. I requested my file from my doctor, sent it to Mr Allen and he took it from there. I was awarded my SSI in a very short time and was able to get my life back. With being disabled and unable to work he made it possible for me to support myself. I recommend David Allen to everyone. Thank you immensely David Allen & Associates.

Katie took my SS disability case after it was rejected when I first submitted it. She thought it was not defended very well and my doctor’s reports were not fully submitted as evidence, so she agreed to represent me. She helped me collect more information and reports from my doctors that described my disability better and matched how I felt. I couldn’t have done this on my own. In the decision the judge agreed with my doctors opinions and rejected the case review doctors. I am relieved they finally understood my problem. Thanks to Katie she really understood what I was going through.

Ms. Roe was THE primary reason I was able to maneuver the complicated SSDI process . I had numerous questions . Every time I reached out to her, she quickly and graciously answered my questions. She is one of the main reasons I was approved quickly , therefore helping myself and my family. This process can be physically and emotionally painful. Ms. Roe was kind, competent and professional.

I emailed Katherine to make an appointment, but she could not take my case because I was not in her jurisdiction. She still called for a phone consult and gave me some great advice on what I needed to do and where to go. She took her time for that and I think that is above and beyond! I am sorry she can not take my case. She is wonderful!

I retained Mr. Carl Mandabach to represent me against my employer of 20 years in an ugly Workers Compensation fight in 2012. He was highly professional, knowledgeable in the Law and demonstrated strong work and moral ethics. Mr. Mandabach presented a forceful and persuasive argument under extremely difficult circumstances. He consistently fought for me and his diligence resulted in a sizable settlement for our side. Again, in 2014 Mr. Mandabach represented me when I had a dispute with the Social Security Administration. He worked my case and stuck with it until he succeeded in securing permanent disability status for me. This “win” was a life-changing event for me and happened because of his caring and expertise dealing with the Social Security system. I consider Mr. Carl Mandabach one of the finest, most competent attorneys in the greater Sacramento area and would not hesitate to call on him for legal assistance in the future.

In the midst of a nerve-wracking situation, I was feeling pretty stuck and anxious. But life had a surprise in store for me. I happened to stumble upon Miss Marion Titus. Right from the get-go, she had this calm and professional vibe that instantly made me feel better. She took the time to break down the whole process for me, making sure I understood everything that is happening. She explained everything in a way that even a regular person like me could understand. It was like a breath of fresh air in the middle of all the confusion. But the real kicker is that her service was actually affordable relative to her amazing skills, her legal service was way more reasonable compared to those other lawyers I have talked to andI had checked out before. It was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Looking back, I can't help but think it was fate that brought Atty Marion Titus and Bulldog Law Sacramento into my life.

Trust me when I say there is no better attorney. Dan was recommended to me by another attorney for a rather complicated case with Social Security. When I spoke to Dan over the phone, he explained the process thoroughly and was very patient with me when I had questions. As a resident of San Francisco, I have an array of attorneys to choose from, especially in the Bay Area, and out of all the ones I spoke to (there were several), Dan was the best one for the job. Dan is definitely worth the commute to his Sacramento office. Appealing to Social Security is a tedious and stressful process, and Dan handled my case with the utmost care. He's extremely knowledgeable and was clear-cut at explaining the process to me where I could understand it plainly. It took roughly over one year to hear back from Social Security, but Dan would check in with me periodically to reassure me he's on top of things, and that we're just waiting to hear back from Social Security. Dan is incredibly intelligent and is skilled with these proceedings. He was very calm throughout the process and explained to me in detail what’s to be expected, and ultimately won my case. He’s worth every penny and more, and if you're feeling gracious, please don’t forget to tip your attorney or buy him/her lunch.

I’ve been in law enforcement for over 40 years, and I’ve known Dan Lee for the past 10 years. I’ve dealt with more attorneys in my profession than I care to count, but I’m glad to have Dan as my lawyer. He helped me go through the long and stressful workers compensation process this last time, and even though I hated it for the most part, my partner Dan took care of me. He explains everything clearly and in detail, and he tells me all the good news with the bad. He even helped me pull through on my Social Security SSI case which was also a headache. In the end, I was very happy with the settlement even though I was frustrated with all these changes in laws and medical care denials and all that nonsense. If you have a workers comp claim that you need problems solved and to make a plan, go see Dan.

After over 40 years in the workforce I discovered I was no longer able to work due to medical issues. I honestly had no idea how to begin the process of filing for Social Security Disability. I contacted Smolich and Smolich and was interviewed by Attorney Sarah Greer. Sarah discussed the medical issues that would make me eligible for Social Security Disability. After our discussion I decided to file for Social Security Disability. Sarah did an outstanding job keeping me informed during the process and communicating with the Social Security Administration staff. I was thoroughly impressed with the level of professionalism and knowledge she has to make the process hassle free. I strongly recommend this company without any reservations.

*Disappointing Experience with Roy Yang Law Office- Lack of Communication and Unprofessional Service* I'm extremely dissatisfied with Roy Yang's Law Office handling of my workers' compensation case. Despite hiring them 7 months ago, I've experienced chronic communication issues and unprofessional service. Key concerns: - *Ignored emails*: Multiple messages regarding my case have gone unanswered. - *Lack of preparation*: No one briefed me on what to expect for my recent QME (Qualified Medical Evaluation). - *Missed appointments*: A phone appointment was scheduled without notification, and I only discovered it by calling the firm. - *Unhelpful staff*: When I do reach someone, I'm made to feel like a burden or an inconvenience. Given my frustrating experience, I question the authenticity of positive reviews. I advise others to exercise caution when considering Roy Yang for legal representation.

Roopen Parekh is a stellar attorney. Because of him my case was successful. He knew exactly how to proceed with my particular case. Roopen was attentive to detail and supportive throughout the process. His prep work left me feeling prepared and ready to testify. Roopens presentation of the case clearly met with the judge’s approval. I highly recommend him for anyone who needs help with a disability or social security case. I know he is the best in his field. Roopen Parekh is hands down the best attorney I could have ever hoped for. Going before the judge, he explained my case better than I ever could have. He summed up all of my ailments, issues, concerns etc all in his opening comments. He knew what, when and how to say everything spot on. I understood why you must hire an attorney. I got it. He represented me better than I ever could have imagined. I can also tell he is very well respected in his field by the rapport he had with the court. THIS IS THE GUY YOU WANT REPRESENTING YOU!! HE IS THE BEST!!

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
