I am currently a client of Matt and have been for a couple years. He is always consistent and fair with his advice concerning all parties. Matt has genuine concern for his client's best interest at all times. He helped to negotiate us through a difficult business situation where it was discovered the other party's lawyer had an undisclosed conflict of interest. Easy to work with, trustworthy, and does not run up the bill on you.

Matt has been incredibly insightful and creative when assisting us in completing small or big business transactions. He is as good of a real estate attorney as you could want, yet is great in handling a broad spectrum of other legal issues. Even more importantly, we find him to be very genuine and personable. My wife and I have been in the business for 30 years, and it has been hard to find a better lawyer than Matt.

I referred DeAnn to my daughter who was in college and searching for housing. She was able to walk her through the perils of being a renter, reading and comparing leases. And the obligations of life and signing on the line. She gave her sound advice and laid the foundation to use her services again. DeAnn bridge the gap and my daughter walked away with a wealth of knowledge. I would recommend DeAnn to any parent and 20 somethings to get all those important papers in order before they are off to college and life; power of attorney and for medical treatment.

I was referred to DeAnn from a trusted friend. She walked me step by step and guiding me with sound advice and solutions. A process that can be filled with large amounts of stress and emotions ended with peace and comfort. Her attention to details and status updates keeps the process smooth and timely. I have since used DeAnn again and referred her to several others that have also confirmed that she is an attorney that will work for the best out come. I would highly recommend DeAnn again and again.

My father’s investment counselor recommended DeAnn Farthing to help me administer my father’s estate. It was especially challenging for me since I live in Illinois, and he lived in Indiana. DeAnn and I were able to complete all tasks via email, phone calls, and mail. She responded immediately to any correspondence. It was wonderful to have an attorney who let me do as much as I wanted on the administrative side, but was there for all my legal needs. She was truly a godsend as I maneuvered the maze of issues surrounding an estate.

Greg Padgett provides excellent service. He is passionate about and highly skilled at his profession. He is experienced, knowledgeable, intelligent, and has phenomenal listening skills. He is accessible, and responsive, and overall a great communicator. He is compassionate and is dedicated to achieving the best possible results. He seemed to understand the mentality of my siblings and the situation I was facing with them as they had not only put themselves in charge of my mothers estate, but quickly alienated me upon our mothers sudden deterioration and death. The highly emotional situation was very challenging for me as emotions clouded my perception and hindered my ability to navigate the manipulative actions of my siblings. Had it not been for Mr. Padgett, I would have had a complete nervous breakdown and had to have given up on honoring my mother, her wishes, and the full inheritance she intended for me. I live out of state and first consulted with my personal estate planning attorney, who started the process of protecting my interests while I looked for an attorney in the state of Indiana. I was referred to Greg from a friend of a friend. He picked up where my local attorney left off with great ease and I am now in a position to highly recommend Mr Padgett, as my mothers estate is closed with the best possible outcome from Greg Padgett’s invaluable services.

I was advised by my business attorney to hire Greg to co-represent with him, my children and I as we challenged my deceased wife’s family estate. It was an ag related situation. The co-council approach was found to be successful as Greg specialized in estate litigation cases and the business attorney specialized in ag law. Greg’s knowledge and experience was definitely beneficial to the outcome. His rates were reasonable. He was personable and always available to address concerns by reply in a timely fashion. Greg’s level of professionalism and approach in dealing with the opposing council was excellent. He truly outclassed the opposing council . I would highly recommend Greg without hesitation for your estate and trust litigation needs

Arlene Kline is an exceptional estate attorney! She is representing my sister and I in the probate process of my father’s estate. I found her on Thumbtack. And she called me on a Sunday!!! How many attorneys do you know that do that?! Not many attorneys ever!!! My sister and I have never been thru a probate process, so naturally we have lots of questions. We’ve sent Arlene lots of emails, and she has ALWAYS responded sometimes even after her work hours. She has also always kept us up to date on the communication she’s had with the PR’s attorney. And she’s done so in a timely manner too. Arlene is also a very well prepared attorney. At the first meeting we had with Arlene, she provided us with an estate checklist. On this checklist, there were important dates and deadlines that have to be met by the Personal Representative. The Personal Representative of my father’s estate is my other sister. This checklist also explained how closing the estate would work. I found this checklist to be very informative and helpful. She also provided us with all the documents that have been filed with the court to date…something that the PR’s attorney should have done but did not. Arlene is also a very professional attorney. She has always conducted herself in a professional manner when dealing with my sister and I via email and in person. The documents, letters, consents, etc that she has prepared are done in a very professional manner as well. She has also dealt with the PR’s attorney in a very professional manner when communicating with him. She’s professional yet personable too. Very hard to find in an attorney. She’s very sympathetic and empathetic to your personal situation. She’s open and honest and a good listener too. Finally, Arlene’s hourly rate is very, very reasonable. I consulted with multiple other attorneys and their rates were at least $300/hr or more! Her retainer fee is also very, very reasonable. It can’t be beat. The other attorneys I consulted with had retainer fees of $3000 or more! Hers only $500! She also gives you options as far as when you pay your bill. You can either pay your bill as she bills you. Or you can pay it after a partial distribution has been paid to you. Now that’s an unbelievable payment schedule! All the other attorneys I consulted with wanted thousands of dollars up front. Then when that money was gone you had to immediately replenish it. There was no willingness to wait until you got paid from the estate. So obviously Arlene is NOT about the almighty dollar. Something you rarely see when it comes to attorneys fees! So if you want to hire a reasonably priced, professional attorney that’s not just going to take your money and run, then you need to hire Arlene Kline. You definitely won’t be disappointed!!!

We had wills that were 30 years out of date and 2 states in arrears. Arlene provided suggestions to what we needed, turned our request around within a week, was accommodative to our schedule, and took the time to explain why and what we needed. She was very transparent, and very supportive. Yes, I would fully recommend Arlene! My financial advisor is no longer reminding me to update our legal documents. Thank you Arlene!

I have had to work with a lot of lawyers in the past for various things and Arlene Kline stands out to me as the best lawyer I have ever worked with. I don't say this lightly. She has taken her time after hours, not paralegal time to prepare documents herself at a very reasonable and fair rate, she is honest. Something very difficult to find now a days. She knows the inner workings of the court extremely well and can get things done efficiently and entirely. I have nothing but great things to say about Arlene and her representation. I am so happy to have found her and would definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking for an honest, hardworking attorney.

My review is for Dawn Marie White. Is there a zero stars option? You should hire her if you like to be misunderstood, talked down to, and ignored, all while paying her handsomely. Dawn Marie is not competent for the position she is in. She is currently a court appointed parenting coordinator, to help with making timely decisions about parenting that would otherwise go to court. My ex and I pay her the price of a normal lawyer so that we don't clog up the court over something the judge sees as frivolous (A FATHER'S PARENTING TIME IS NOT FRIVOLOUS). That would also take forever and then there'd be no decision due to it being a moot point, water under the bridge. So far I've paid Dawn Marie White $5000 and literally all she's done is tell me what she's not going to do. My $5000 retainer is gone and there are zero court orders or official decisions that came of it. Now she wants me to pay her more and she's ignoring me until I do, I assume. When we first met, she wanted to meet via video call and then she made us turn our camera on but she left hers off. I should have known she'd be horrible from the first meeting. Since then I've just asked for equity in parenting time for things like dividing school holidays evenly. Currently, we go by the IPTG which does not divide the non-school days fairly between the two parents in my school district. There are administrative leave days and snow make up days that serve as holidays to the children, but those all go to the mother because the IPTG doesn't mention those days. When I asked Dawn Marie to do something about it and give me half the days that the children are out of school, she said she'd make decisions on a case by case basis (code for "I'm piecemealing your billable time so I can charge you more and deplete your retainer faster"). Then when I asked her at the time when the children were going to be out, she said it was too late and that I should have asked earlier. So yeah...buyer beware.

Wonderful & very professional attorneys! I must also say that their administrative staff are ever so kind and thoughtful too. Lewis Wagner, LLP provided my family with the BEST of services and assisted ‘above and beyond’ what usual attorneys would have done! I highly recommend without a second thought that if you require legal services of any kind - that you look no further than the Lewis Wagner Firm. It is here that you are treated as family with the utmost care in mind. Blessings to you all and thank you for being there when mostly needed. - Mark B.

I have been to this facility on three occasions to deliver catering orders. All three times well over $200 in food. They are always extremely nice. However, it's always a hour of my time wasted for nothing they never tip and never have .. I do this full time and have for 8 years . It's completely disrespectful and discouraging. We don't make a delivery fee we strictly live off a gratuity and it clearly states that on the receipt and website. You can't buy time plain and simple and for these people to disrespect my time and money on multiple occasions has just left a sour taste in my mouth .

I hired Nicole to represent me in a legal matter. I am very dissatisfied with her services because of her lack of knowledge & experience. On multiple occasions it took Nicole days & sometimes weeks just to respond to a text, email, or phone call. She works a full time job & tries to practice law on the side which interfered on the time she could work on my case. She caused unnecessary stress on me & my family because at times she really didn’t know what she was doing & got in way over her head. I would definitely recommend anybody to do your research & hire a knowledgeable attorney with years of experience. Overall i think Nicole was a nice person & tried, but I my only intentions was to hire a knowledgeable attorney that can get the job done with minimum stress which she did not do.

Giving Jane 2 stars as she has the potential to be a good lawyer however when she represented me in 2022 as a Keffer-Hirschauer attorney I was disappointed on many occasions . Jane completed a lot of work last minute, which might have been the result of Keffer-Hirschauer overloading their attorneys with too many cases. Regarding spousal maintenance, Jane wasted months before asking the court for a hearing on spousal maintenance, and Jane did not follow through with the request once filed. Jane recommended signing certain financial agreements without communicating the possibility that future hearing dates may be rescheduled or extended, which lead to me being left without funding for many months. Lastly, a few weeks before a scheduled mediation and final hearing date Jane was either fired from Keffer-Hirschauer or left Keffer-Hirschauer on her own, (I have not been given a reason for her departure from either side) which then extended my mediation and final hearing, left me in a desperate financial situation and resulted in an exorbitant amount of legal fee's as I had to start over with a new lawyer.

What a Trusts Lawyer Can Do for You

A trusts lawyer specializes in creating and managing trusts, which are legal entities that allow individuals to transfer assets to beneficiaries while maintaining control over how and when those assets are distributed. Trusts are used for estate planning, asset protection, tax planning, and ensuring the financial security of loved ones. Trusts lawyers help clients choose the right type of trust for their needs, draft trust documents, and advise on the administration and management of trusts.

Whether you're planning to pass on your assets to your heirs, protect your wealth from creditors, or provide for a disabled family member, a trusts lawyer can help you establish a trust that meets your financial and personal goals.

When Should I Hire a Trusts Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a trusts lawyer in various situations, particularly when you're planning for the future distribution of your assets or protecting your wealth. Common reasons to hire a trusts lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, a lawyer can help you create a revocable or irrevocable trust to avoid probate and provide for your heirs.
  • Asset protection: If you want to protect your assets from creditors, lawsuits, or potential future liabilities, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to shield your wealth.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member, a lawyer can create a special needs trust to provide for their care without affecting their eligibility for government benefits.
  • Tax planning: If you're looking to minimize estate taxes or manage tax liabilities, a lawyer can help you create tax-advantageous trusts, such as a credit shelter trust or charitable remainder trust.
  • Charitable giving: If you want to leave a legacy through charitable donations, a lawyer can help you set up a charitable trust to ensure your donations are managed according to your wishes.
  • Business succession planning: If you own a business and want to ensure a smooth transition of ownership, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to pass the business on to your heirs or chosen successors.

Hiring a trusts lawyer early in the estate planning process ensures that your assets are protected and your wishes are clearly documented, reducing the chances of disputes after your death.

What Does a Trusts Lawyer Do?

A trusts lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help individuals create, manage, and administer trusts. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting trust documents: Preparing the legal documents needed to create the trust, ensuring it is tailored to your specific goals and complies with state and federal laws.
  • Choosing the right type of trust: Assisting clients in selecting the most appropriate type of trust for their needs, whether it's a revocable trust, irrevocable trust, living trust, or special needs trust.
  • Trust administration: Guiding trustees through their legal responsibilities, including managing assets, making distributions to beneficiaries, and filing tax returns.
  • Modifying or terminating trusts: Helping modify or terminate trusts if circumstances change, such as changes in tax laws, family situations, or personal preferences.
  • Protecting beneficiaries' interests: Structuring trusts to protect the interests of beneficiaries, especially if there are concerns about financial management, disability, or dependency issues.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: Assisting clients in structuring their trusts to minimize or avoid estate taxes, ensuring more of the estate passes to beneficiaries.
  • Handling disputes: Mediating or representing clients in court if disputes arise among beneficiaries or between trustees and beneficiaries.

How Are Trusts Lawyers Paid?

Trusts lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the trust and the type of legal work involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Flat fee: For drafting basic trusts, such as revocable living trusts or special needs trusts, many lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the trust.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex trust planning, ongoing trust administration, or resolving disputes, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: For long-term trust administration or complex estate planning cases, some lawyers may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers ongoing services.
  • Contingency fee (rare): In rare cases, particularly in disputes involving the administration of a trust, lawyers may work on a contingency fee basis, getting paid only if they successfully recover funds or resolve a legal dispute in your favor.

Always discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the total cost of services.

How Much Does a Trusts Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a trusts lawyer depends on the complexity of the trust, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Basic trust creation: For simple trusts, such as revocable living trusts, fees may range from $1,000 to $3,000.
  • Complex trust creation: For sophisticated estate plans involving multiple trusts, tax planning strategies, or special needs considerations, legal fees may range from $5,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Trust administration: If you are serving as a trustee and need ongoing legal advice, hourly rates for trust administration can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Dispute resolution: Costs for litigation or mediation in trust disputes may range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.

Be sure to get a detailed cost estimate from your lawyer during the consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask a Trusts Lawyer

Before hiring a trusts lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with creating trusts?
Ensure the lawyer has experience drafting trusts and managing trust administration for clients with similar goals or asset structures.
  2. What types of trusts do you recommend for my situation?
Ask the lawyer to explain the different types of trusts available and which ones best suit your needs.
  3. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate of the total cost.
  4. What are the tax implications of the trust?
Ensure the lawyer can explain how the trust will affect your taxes and strategies to minimize tax liability.
  5. How long will it take to set up the trust?
Ask for a timeline for creating and finalizing the trust documents.
  6. Will you handle the trust administration?
If ongoing management is required, inquire whether the lawyer will assist with trust administration or if you'll need a separate trustee.
  7. Can you help resolve disputes if they arise?
Ask about the lawyer's experience in resolving trust disputes.

How to Check the Credibility of a Trusts Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable trusts lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary actions.
  • Look for trust law experience: Review their website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in estate planning and trusts.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications such as Certified Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS) or memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a trusts lawyer, bring the following:

  • List of assets: Prepare a list of all your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, investments, retirement accounts, and personal property.
  • List of beneficiaries: Provide names and contact information of individuals or organizations you want to name as beneficiaries.
  • Existing estate planning documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, or other estate planning documents.
  • Financial information: Bring financial statements, tax returns, and other relevant financial documentation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions about the trust creation process, fees, and how the trust will protect your assets and beneficiaries.
  • Goals for the trust: Clearly outline your objectives, such as asset protection, tax minimization, or provisions for beneficiaries, so the lawyer can tailor the trust to your needs.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible legal advice for creating and managing your trust.
