I can't recommend Attorney Richard Grabow highly enough! I finally have federal disability support (SSDI) because I contracted with him. I would not have been able to successfully navigate the disability appeals process without him and his assistant Melissa. It was very difficult to find someone to take my case, as I am considered very young for disability and because (as Attorney Grabow explained) the system is not really set up to assess people with my many complex, chronic conditions. After a lot of hard work and an extremely long time of searching, I found two others willing to take my case, but after in-person consults, it was no contest that I wanted to go with Grabow. He was obviously very busy so he had to be very direct and to the point about everything, but I appreciate the efficiency and candor. He looked at my work history and medical summary, and he laid out the difficulties of my application but the reasons why I could (and obviously should) qualify. He also explained more of an inside perspective on how the system works, expected wait times, etc. The other folks I considered hiring did not seem nearly as competent nor were they as thorough or candid about things. Basically, how the office functions is that most communications are with his assistant Melissa and Richard directly communicates when needed. Melissa is friendly, helpful, and has more time for answering questions. Richard is understandably more rushed and some might perceive him as a bit gruff, but again, the efficiency, directness and high level of competence is what I prefer. (And, what works!) For anyone starting the disability process, some other helpful info: -Grabow operates on a common disability attorney method where you can contract with him and he does not receive payment unless you win your case. If you win, he is automatically paid a % from your backpay, with a cap. This was a godsend for me as, of course, I was destitute by the time I found him. -Contracting with a lawyer is extremely important and helpful, but you still have to stay on top of everything that you can yourself. For example, I always take notes, and Grabow mentioned a certain type of paperwork early in the process. I brought it up with him further into the process ("I have X in my notes. Should we be doing that soon?") and his take seemed to be, "We don't need that right now. Let's not do work until we need to do work and have everything as current as possible." Luckily, I pressed him on it to give it to me the forms to get to my doctor...and then, surprisingly, my case processing got pushed up EARLIER than expected, we did need that paperwork, and we had it in the nick of time. All this is to say, I don't think I would have been approved without his work on my case, but you still need to be engaged in the process. In sum, I am extremely glad and grateful that I used Richard and Melissa!! I was disabled for 10 years without support, and I am finally in the next chapter of my life because of their help. I can't thank them enough!!!

My case was complex and involved several appeals and hearings. If not for Attorney Grabow, the ALJ would have decided the case before ever hearing it. Attorney Grabow was able to show that the ALJ made errors and, after the case was remanded, WE WON!

I was in a minor car accident, but I hurt my shoulder.I got the Goff law firm involved. After other driver's insurance company made an offer that would cover one week of the 2 months of physical rehab. The Goff law group really went to bat for me and I received a great settlement 10 time the original offer. From the beginning the team treated me like a high priority case and gave me progress reports regularly. They called weekly during rehab to hear how me progress was going. Plus they went above and beyond by sending a sign on gift and a delicious cake as a thank you to me foe being their client. I have dealt with legal firms in the past for business and a other accidents and never got the level of service or concern as a client or as a person before. The Goff team not only cared about getting me the best results but truly treated me like family and that's why I can't recommend them enough.

Hello my name is Miguel a recent client of Goff, my wife Kayleigh was logged into Chrome so it may say her name. My experience with Goff has been pleasurable simply because I was able to sense their genuine concern from the second I was on the phone with someone. I am grateful to have worked with Beronica and Morgan, who both guided me through the process with clarity and patience. You can believe they're fighting for you. Sure the goal is to be compensated, but you end up feeling like a friend instead of just business. I can guarantee if you go with Goff, you're going to be dealing with true professionals who will make you feel welcomed. I'm almost sad it's all over. They won't let you down.

The team at Goff Law Group truly went above and beyond in handling my personal injury claim. They diligently explained every situation in detail to me and answered all of my questions. Melanie, the paralegal assigned to my case was very detailed oriented and responsive to any need. I had the pleasure of dealing with Attorney Annette Smith who, from the very start, was upfront and realistic regarding the situation and expectations. In the end the group maximized my claim--for which I am very grateful. I was very fortunate to fall into the care of the Goff Law Group, and I would recommend them to anyone in need of a law firm to handle a personal injury matter.

I did not deal directly with Brook Goff, but did with her firm. I had a couple of lawyers, and they didn't work out. The one that did was Tiffany Sabato. She was stellar! Called me with information, called if she needed more information, kept me up to date on what was going on. I live out of state, but my accident took place in CT. It was reassuring to know that someone was watching out for me. Thanks again Tiffany for all your hard work, but happy I hope to never have to use a lawyer for the rest of my life.

Set expectations from day one as the process can be cumbersome as the time lines can range depending on which officer is assigned to our case. Checking in to let us know timelines as they changed as to manage expectations. EXTREMELY knowledgeable, as a client I was always confident that she knew the answer with anything I threw her way from various types of topics. Professional candor from the moment we meet her, polite, well spoken and always made us feel like her #1 priority. Care - she really added a simple but human touch to make sure we felt that she was doing the best she could to help us. Taking an interest in our story and customizing her approach to our needs Excellent communication throughout the process, her response times to our questions (and we had a lot, god bless her) and keeping us update with any relevant news. Giving us the best chance for success for our green card application by ensuring we came over prepared and to look our best during the interview process. All in all, good lawyers are hard to come by but someone like Diana is in a league of her own. Grateful we found her and we feel like a million dollars having her on her side to tackle any challenge coming our way. Thank you Diana for helping us through such a big life event!

This is a very professional law firm. My experience with them was very pleasant. I didn't have to call them and ask for updates about my case. Attorney Palermo always notified me of updates or any changes. He worked very hard on my case and I am truly happy with the results. I would recommend this law firm to anyone who would need their type of services.

As a Proud Veteran of the United States Army, I have called on Attorney Linda K Bertolette not once but twice in which she has fought a good fight on behalf of my personal injury cases. The time, effort, guidance, reliability and overall professional expertise rendered on the battlefield of both personal injury cases, has brought forth victory each time. I not only thank but salute her for the dedication and services of the highest quality. I highly recommend and proudly say to Attorney Linda K Bertolette and her Paralegal Team “job well done and thank you for outstanding service “. Michael

I think the services of Bertollet law firm are poor beyond comparison. I am a prospective owner of a house .I hired firm for housing transaction and related services, buyer protection based on contract etc. During the process I had faced issues with some terms in the contract and seek help from Attorney Bertollete. As such reaching them and getting a response a question of luck . Luckily when I did get a response , I was told " We don't provide such services. We can not defend you on legal grounds for contract related issues. We just come in during closing". So we did not contact the firm for any further issues. We set a closing date 1 month in advance and informed Attorney Bertollete. 1 week before Becky comes and tells me the attorney is not available and we should move our closing. So not only do I not get any meaningful service from the firm , but I also face inconveniences and problem purely developed and caused by Bertolette Law firm. Ridiculous! In short the service could be described as unprofessional, unreliable and meaningless!

I had an unfortunate accident while at work. My employer had told me that they would take care of all of my bills regarding the accident. After about a week, I start receiving calls with regards to information needed to bill my employer. I began to reach out to obtain the information from my employer, at which time they began ignoring my calls. I reached out the Attorney Goodstein and with in 48 hours of that initial call he began getting things in motion. He was always available and worked not only to get all my medical bills paid but also got me a settlement more that I expected. Attorney Goodstein was always personable and prioritized me and my case. To speak even more to his professionalism, my whole case he and I only ever spoke via phone or email because it was convenient for me! I would recommend Attorney Goodstein to anyone in need of an attorney for a workers compensation claim. Thank you Greg

The previous post on here was unfortunately made by my mother. I want to sincerely apologize to Atty Goodstein about what was written about him. I can't speak to why my mother would say the things she has but I can speak to my experiences. Greg is a kind and caring guy. He is welcoming and caring especially after what was a traumatic accident for my family and I. Whenever I reach out to him I receive a call, email or text within the same day. Never more than 24 hours. If I ever have a question I can reach out. Its very easy to post bad reviews these days. It's not fair to do it on things that are not true. I will gladly recommend Greg to anyone that needs assistance just as my mother has said she has done previously.

What a Workers’ Compensation Lawyer Can Do for You

A workers’ compensation lawyer specializes in helping employees who are injured or become ill as a result of their job to receive the benefits they are entitled to under workers' compensation laws. These lawyers represent injured workers in claims for medical benefits, wage replacement, and other compensation related to workplace injuries or illnesses. They also help when claims are denied, benefits are delayed, or disputes arise with the employer or the insurance company.

Whether you've been injured on the job, developed an occupational illness, or are dealing with a denied workers' compensation claim, a workers’ compensation lawyer can help you navigate the claims process and ensure you receive the full benefits you deserve.

When Should I Hire a Workers' Compensation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a workers' compensation lawyer in several situations, especially when complications arise during the claims process or when your rights as an injured worker are being challenged. Some common reasons to hire a workers' compensation lawyer include:

  • Claim denial: If your workers' compensation claim has been denied, a lawyer can help you appeal the decision and represent you in hearings or litigation.
  • Inadequate benefits: If the insurance company offers you a settlement that doesn’t cover your medical expenses, lost wages, or other damages, a lawyer can negotiate on your behalf for a fair amount.
  • Delay in receiving benefits: If your benefits are being delayed, a lawyer can help expedite the process to ensure you receive timely compensation.
  • Permanent disability: If your injury leads to permanent disability (partial or total), a lawyer can help you navigate the more complex process of securing long-term benefits.
  • Retaliation by employer: If your employer retaliates against you for filing a workers' compensation claim (e.g., by firing or demoting you), a lawyer can protect your rights and pursue legal action.
  • Third-party liability: If a third party (e.g., a contractor or equipment manufacturer) was responsible for your injury, a lawyer can help you pursue additional compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Pre-existing conditions: If your employer or the insurance company claims that your injury is related to a pre-existing condition, a lawyer can help you present evidence showing that the injury was work-related.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can prevent delays, avoid mistakes, and ensure you receive all the benefits you’re entitled to under workers' compensation law.

What Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Do?

A workers' compensation lawyer provides a range of legal services to injured workers, ensuring that they receive the benefits they deserve. Their tasks often include:

  • Filing claims: Helping injured workers prepare and file their workers' compensation claims to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Appealing denied claims: Representing workers whose claims have been denied and guiding them through the appeals process, including hearings and court appearances.
  • Negotiating settlements: Negotiating with insurance companies to secure fair compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
  • Handling disputes: Resolving disputes between the injured worker, the employer, and the insurance company regarding the amount of compensation or the nature of the injury.
  • Coordinating medical evidence: Gathering and presenting medical records, expert testimony, and other evidence to support the workers' compensation claim.
  • Advocating for benefits: Ensuring that injured workers receive all the benefits they’re entitled to, including temporary or permanent disability benefits, vocational rehabilitation, and medical treatment.
  • Filing third-party lawsuits: In cases where a third party is responsible for the injury, a workers' compensation lawyer may also pursue a personal injury lawsuit to recover additional damages.

How Are Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Paid?

Workers' compensation lawyers typically charge a contingency fee, meaning they only get paid if they successfully recover benefits for you. This fee is usually a percentage of the benefits awarded, and the specific percentage is often regulated by state law. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer's fee is typically between 15% and 25% of the total benefits awarded to you. You don’t have to pay any upfront legal fees, and the lawyer’s fee comes out of the settlement or benefit award.
  • No fee if no recovery: If the lawyer doesn’t recover any benefits for you, you generally don’t have to pay for their services.
  • State regulations on fees: Many states cap the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge, and some states require the fee to be approved by the workers' compensation board or judge.

Be sure to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will owe if your case is successful.

How Much Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a workers' compensation lawyer typically depends on the contingency fee arrangement, meaning the lawyer’s fee will be a percentage of the benefits you receive. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: Most workers' compensation lawyers charge between 15% and 25% of the total settlement or benefits awarded. For example, if you receive $50,000 in benefits, the lawyer’s fee would range from $7,500 to $12,500.
  • State regulations: Some states limit the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge. In these cases, the fee is usually capped, often at 20% to 25%, depending on state law.
  • Additional costs: Some lawyers may charge for out-of-pocket expenses, such as filing fees, medical records retrieval, and expert witness testimony, though these costs are typically deducted from the settlement after the case is won.

You should always ask for a clear explanation of fees and potential additional costs during your consultation so you understand the financial arrangement.

Top Questions to Ask a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

Before hiring a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with workers' compensation cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your injury is severe or the case involves disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and whether there are any additional costs you need to be aware of.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including the potential challenges and outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Find out if the lawyer has experience dealing with cases involving similar injuries or disputes, such as denied claims or permanent disability.
  5. How long will the process take?
While it’s difficult to predict an exact timeline, the lawyer should be able to provide a general estimate based on their experience with similar cases.
  6. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your claim.

How to Check the Credibility of a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable workers' compensation lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for workers' compensation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in workers' compensation law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and service.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience in workers' compensation cases.
  • Check for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the Workers' Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG) or local bar association committees on workers' compensation can indicate the lawyer’s commitment to this area of law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Accident report or incident documentation: Bring any documentation related to your workplace injury or illness, including accident reports or notifications to your employer.
  • Medical records: Provide copies of medical records, including treatment notes, doctor’s reports, and any information related to your injury or condition.
  • Employer correspondence: Bring any letters, emails, or forms related to your claim from your employer or the workers' compensation insurance company.
  • Wage and benefits information: Provide information on your wages, benefits, and any lost income due to the injury.
  • List of questions: Prepare questions about your case, the process, costs, and what to expect moving forward.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a timeline of the incident, your injury, and any medical treatment or communication with your employer and the insurance company.

Being well-prepared for your consultation will allow the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide you with the best possible legal advice.
