We appreciate Daggett Shuler representing us in an auto accident. This was the first time that I have been involved in an accident. We wanted to use Daggett Shuler because we felt confident that our case would be represented fairly when dealing with multiple insurance companies. We recently closed and felt the compensation was fair. I know that if I, alone, had to deal with insurance companies, the compensation would not have been as fair. Thank you to the group at Daggett Shuler!!

Mike is the rock star of all lawyers. He handled my case that lasted over a year and he gave me the best advice in my situation. Mike is truly liked and respected by many people because he is truthful, honest, and is blessed with wisdom. He always returned my calls - always. It was comforting to me to know he and Kara (another lawyer that works with him) were always on my side. Thank you Mike

You will not find a better Attorney. They will hole your hand the whole way. I had an attorney in High Point for 2 yrs I knew there reception after getting the run away. I chose Mike Lewis he down to earth and if I called five times a day. He would always call me back. If it wasn't for Mike Lewis helping me I would not have gotten my disability. He has an experience Social Security person that worked for Social Security for years and now he works for Mike Lewis and with all the great advice I had my Disability in three months ...I would not trust anyone else to hold my hand thru all this ordeal. He not only a Attorney He's your friends and his christian ways and his staff are excellent ....I m telling you Hire Mike Lewis you got a friend as well as an attorney.....Very down to earth and he does not rush your visits he there for you. It was like God sent me to Mike Lewis I needed a christian friend that is an attorney. Instead getting the run around another Attorney is High Point. I never met the attorney at the place in HP nor did I get a one on one experience like Mike Lewis;s office offers. I will always be obligated to them. JS

We walked in as clients, but left with a great friendship! Made us feel comfortable and that we were the most important of his cases. Everything that has been said on all of his commercials are true! Took the time to make sure that my husband was always comfortable. I would recommend him because of the caring, all our questions were answered so us being, laymen could understand. Never made you feel like the questions you asked of him were not important. He answered all of them. No one could have done his job any better! Thank-you for everything dear friend! .

Writing this review because of the unacceptable and costly administrative errors made during the handling of my case. Egregious errors include the attorney failing to prepare any argument points for negotiation, blaming his performance on his failing memory, double billing for hours already paid for, and ultimately *losing my settlement check* within his own office. He billed me for time he spent looking for the check he had misplaced, and withdrew funds from my settlement check without permission or providing a bill for services. I know these administrative errors are atypical for law firms. Unfortunately, I made a poor choice in choosing this firm to represent me.

I’ve been dealing with this law firm since October I had a work incident to where my finger got cut off I called the law firm and Ambria was assigned to me not knowing she is just a receptionist and not a lawyer, she not only doesn’t answer phone calls nor text messages but also played as if she was my lawyer, I couldn’t get my prescriptions nor was I receiving my correct pay from worker’s compensation, I kept calling and leaving voicemails because every time I call it goes to voicemail then one day I was told my lawyer would be Tammy then Shannon, however Shannon called me and was highly disrespectful to me even hung up in my face with all that they still wanted 25 percent of a settlement that I never received, I strongly urge people not to use this law firm for anything, you get the run around, you don’t get all your wages, plus you get disrespected just for calling because you have a receptionist that’s trying to play as a lawyer I should file a lawsuit against them for Emotional Distress

"We recently worked with Mr Gale to help my 19-year-old son with a serious out-of-state speeding ticket that could have had major consequences for his insurance, license, and court fees. Although he wasn’t the cheapest option, every dollar spent was well worth it. You truly get what you pay for, and Robert Gale proved this with his incredible expertise and efficiency. From the start, he was consistently in communication, which brought me peace of mind and reassured my son throughout the entire process. He was honest, full of integrity, and transparent with us, qualities that are sometimes rare in this field. Thanks to his skill, what seemed like a daunting task was resolved swiftly and with minimal stress on our part. I’m typically apprehensive about working with lawyers, but Mr. Gale has completely changed my perspective. He made this challenging experience much easier, and I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of reliable, effective representation.

I spoke to Mona and she sounded confident. I never got anything in the mail from them or even a phone call after i hired them. I constantly leave messages and no call backs or communucation. My friend hired another firm and she was mailed a huge packet welcoming her and supporting her, it even told her what she can expect from the firm. This is NOT the case with Rizzi. Im still hanging in limbo. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else.

Dr. Rawlings is a greedy, unprofessional, and untrustworthy attorney who should be avoided at all costs. He strung our family along for well over a year as we paid thousands of dollars in an attempt to hold a surgeon accountable for harm done to our young daughter. During this saga, Dr. Rawlings wasrarely available to talk to us unless we owed him money. We paid thousands for a "demand letter" which was poorly written and littered with typos. We then paid thousands more to an expert witness Dr. Rawlings found who essentially took our money and ran. We then paid thousands more to find another expert witness willing to help us, but then Dr. Rawlings expected our family to pay 100% of the costs of litigation on top of a multi thousand dollar retainer fee AND a 40% contingency fee. When respectfully pressed on this arrangement, Dr. Rawlings promptly terminated his firm's relationship with our family. Dr. Rawlings looks out for one person and one person only - himself. If you or a family member have been injured and are in need of a compassionate and professional attorney to help, you would be wise to look elsewhere.

Rawlings agreed to consultation re my surgical injury after I posted on the Bar's matching service. During what was supposed to be a 30 minute consult (actually he only gave me 15), he all but said that my case was very strong. No excuse for the level of injury I had suffered during a routine surgery, he said. I was so encouraged and thus eager to proceed. Turns out, he wanted $1000 (on top of the 52 paid for initial consult) to "read medical records." I delivered these to him (which I have since learned is not how most lawyers do this - THEY get your records and work on contingency), paid him, and after he failed to appear for our follow-up appt to discuss his findings, he finally called 3 weeks later to say, too bad, no case. Why? Because I should have known the complications of this surgery, he said, and besides, I had signed a consent form. If this is what the case hinged on, why didn't he ask me up front if I'd signed one? Why did he even need to read my records? To add insult to injury, he mailed my records back with a letter saying that after his careful consideration, "[my] mother's case" wouldn't stand! He didn't even know who was injured. $1050 for nothing.

I do not recommend Mr. ANTHONY J. VRSECKY as a law firm for anybody who needs help with domestic violation case, he was not interested enough to solve my case by asking the judge for dismissal of my charges, but he instead he was negotiating with the prosecutor to solve the case by letting me taking a battery probation course, I refused that because I was completely innocent, and that will impact my background check history, in addition to that he refused and ignored my phone calls and emails, I had to fire him, and I hired another law firm who has a professional and he has more experience than Mr. Versecky, the new law firm was able to win the case immediately due to lack evidence so the judge has no choice but to dismiss it, so my recommendation to avoid hiring Mr. ANTHONY J. VRSECKY if you have a serious charge just think twice before going to him you will waste your time and your money.

What a Wrongful Death Lawyer Can Do for You

A wrongful death lawyer specializes in representing families who have lost a loved one due to the negligent, reckless, or intentional actions of another person or entity. These lawyers help families seek compensation for the emotional and financial losses associated with the untimely death of a loved one, including medical bills, funeral expenses, lost income, loss of companionship, and pain and suffering. Wrongful death claims can arise from various situations, including car accidents, medical malpractice, workplace accidents, and criminal actions.

If you have lost a family member due to someone else’s wrongful actions, a wrongful death lawyer can help you navigate the legal process and pursue justice on behalf of your loved one.

When Should I Hire a Wrongful Death Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a wrongful death lawyer if a loved one has died as a result of someone else’s negligence, recklessness, or intentional harm. Some common reasons to hire a wrongful death lawyer include:

  • Car accidents: If a loved one was killed in a car, truck, or motorcycle accident caused by another driver’s negligence (e.g., reckless driving, DUI, or distracted driving), a lawyer can help you file a wrongful death claim.
  • Medical malpractice: If a loved one died due to medical negligence, such as a misdiagnosis, surgical error, or medication mistake, a wrongful death lawyer can help you pursue compensation from the healthcare provider.
  • Workplace accidents: If your loved one died in a workplace accident or due to unsafe working conditions, you may be entitled to compensation from the employer or third parties responsible for the unsafe conditions.
  • Defective products: If a defective product caused your loved one’s death, a lawyer can help you file a wrongful death claim against the manufacturer or distributor of the product.
  • Criminal actions: If your loved one was the victim of a criminal act, such as homicide or assault, a wrongful death lawyer can help you pursue a civil claim for damages, even if a criminal case is also ongoing.
  • Nursing home negligence: If an elderly loved one died due to neglect or abuse in a nursing home, a lawyer can help you hold the facility accountable for their wrongful actions.

Hiring a wrongful death lawyer soon after the incident ensures that important evidence is preserved and that you can meet any legal deadlines for filing a claim.

What Does a Wrongful Death Lawyer Do?

A wrongful death lawyer provides a wide range of services to help families navigate the legal complexities of a wrongful death claim and seek compensation for their losses. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Investigating the death: Conducting a thorough investigation of the circumstances leading to your loved one’s death, gathering evidence such as medical records, accident reports, and witness statements.
  • Establishing liability: Identifying who is legally responsible for your loved one’s death, whether it’s an individual, company, or government entity, and building a case showing how their negligence or wrongful actions caused the death.
  • Calculating damages: Helping you determine the full extent of your financial and emotional losses, including funeral expenses, medical bills, lost income, loss of companionship, and pain and suffering.
  • Filing a wrongful death claim: Preparing and filing the necessary legal documents to initiate a wrongful death lawsuit within the statute of limitations in your state.
  • Negotiating settlements: Working with the responsible party’s insurance company or legal team to negotiate a fair settlement for your losses.
  • Representing you in court: If a settlement cannot be reached, representing you in court by presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Handling legal deadlines: Ensuring that all legal filings are completed within the deadlines set by your state’s statute of limitations for wrongful death cases.

How Are Wrongful Death Lawyers Paid?

Wrongful death lawyers typically work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case. Here’s how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is usually a percentage of the total settlement or damages awarded, typically ranging from 25% to 40%. You won’t have to pay any upfront fees, and the lawyer only gets paid if they successfully recover compensation for you.
  • No fee if no recovery: If the lawyer does not win or settle your case, you generally won’t owe them any legal fees.
  • Case expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, you may also be responsible for reimbursing the lawyer for case-related expenses, such as court costs, expert witness fees, and investigation costs. These expenses are typically deducted from the settlement or award.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand how much you will owe if your case is successful.

How Much Does a Wrongful Death Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a wrongful death lawyer is usually based on a contingency fee structure, meaning you only pay if the lawyer recovers compensation for you. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee percentage: Most wrongful death lawyers charge between 25% and 40% of the total settlement or court award. For example, if you receive a $500,000 settlement and the lawyer’s fee is 33%, the lawyer would receive $165,000, and you would keep the remaining $335,000.
  • Case expenses: In addition to the lawyer’s fee, expenses such as court costs, expert witness fees, and investigation costs may be deducted from the settlement or award. These expenses can range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.

Make sure to ask your lawyer for a clear explanation of their fees and case-related expenses before proceeding with your wrongful death claim.

Top Questions to Ask a Wrongful Death Lawyer

Before hiring a wrongful death lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and resources to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with wrongful death cases?
Ensure the lawyer has successfully handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s medical malpractice, car accidents, or workplace deaths.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the lawyer’s contingency fee percentage and any additional costs, such as case expenses, that you may be responsible for.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and any potential challenges that could affect the outcome.
  4. How long will the process take?
Wrongful death cases can take time to resolve, so ask how long the lawyer expects the process to last, from filing the claim to reaching a settlement or going to trial.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. What types of damages can I recover?
Ask the lawyer to explain the types of compensation you may be entitled to, such as medical bills, funeral expenses, loss of income, and emotional suffering.

How to Check the Credibility of a Wrongful Death Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable wrongful death lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for wrongful death experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in wrongful death cases and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on wrongful death cases.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a wrongful death lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Death certificate: Bring a copy of your loved one’s death certificate, as this is a key document in wrongful death cases.
  • Medical records: If applicable, bring your loved one’s medical records, autopsy reports, or any documentation of their medical care leading up to their death.
  • Accident or incident reports: If the wrongful death resulted from an accident, bring any police reports, accident reports, or workplace incident reports.
  • Financial records: Provide documentation of your loved one’s income, benefits, and financial contributions to the family to help calculate economic damages.
  • Correspondence: Bring any communication you’ve had with the responsible party, their insurance company, or legal representatives.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions for the lawyer about the legal process, potential outcomes, and fees.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the events leading up to and following your loved one’s death.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice.
