Ms. Jacobs is an outstanding Lawyer. Sadly, I have an ongoing complex family law case and I’ve been in litigation the entire life of my child. I had two prior Attorney’s before I found Ms. Jacobs and I was nervous about starting over with a new Atty. Ms. Jacobs and I met for an in-person consultation. I was nervous if she would get it since she didn’t know our long-detailed history, but she diligently read through our filings and asked all the right questions. She’s VERY sharp, and she knows family law and criminal law very well. I hired her right away! I told her exactly what I was hoping for and she focused on just that. I felt like she actually cared, and she wasn’t trying to take advantage of my situation and run up the bill with unnecessary filings. My issue resulted in a settlement for the first time ever and the hearing was canceled. Maybe if I had found her years ago my ex and I would be in a different place with our co-parenting. Thank you very much for everything! Ms. Jacobs!

Professional, diligent and responsive are just a few words to describe how pleased I was with hiring Jennifer Jacobs. Mrs. Jacob’s went above and beyond for my injunction case. She was always responsive to my phone calls. She was diligent and knowledgeable in the court room. And also very professional in corresponding with the other counsel and my needs. I would recommend Jennifer Jacobs to anyone needing representation for an injunction. If I could give her 10 stars I would! She’s one of the few great lawyers out there.

Mr.McCulloch is a phenomenal attorney to have. He is known for his extensive knowledge as a criminal trial and appeals lawyer. My family is very fortunate to have found Mark after interviewing many lawyers to find the best of the BEST! It was the greatest and most wise decision we could have ever made. He is highly motivated and extremely talented in his line of work. He has been working extensively on my father’s case and we could not be more pleased with an attorney. He has a broad knowledge of many areas of law and will fight for you like you’re his own family. There is no doubt without Mr.McCulloch’s guidance and representation we would not be where we are at today. Our case is still ongoing but we know that the best possible outcome will be achieved with having Mr.McCulloch as our defense attorney. My family and I cannot thank Mark enough for all his hard work and dedication to our case. He will fight for you deligently in and out of the courtroom. Many lawyers promise results, Mr.McCulloch delivers them and will go above and beyond for you.

I can't say enough about Dean Reed, I am so happy I picked him to handle my bankruptcy case. I had a rather complex case and he answered my zillions of questions and always responded quickly and eased my mind every step of the way. He never got aggravated or short with me on any question I had and was always kind and patient. He knows his stuff and is a pro and stays on top of your case!!! While I was searching for an attorney I read some other attorney reviews before I found Dean and some complaints of those other attorney's were questions not being answered, no call backs and being left in the dark. This is so not the case with Dean. You are in contact every step of the process. Please do yourself a favor and don't look any further for an attorney. You will be very pleased if you pick him. I know I am happy. :)

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Altamonte Springs, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
