All I can say is Gary Weiner is an outstanding trial attorney. His advice, ethics and professionalism makes him the top family law attorney in south Florida, in my opinion. He is a lawyer that really can empathize with what you are going through. Most importantly he puts your children first. I just recently finished an extremely acrimonious out of state time sharing dispute and Gary and his partner , Scott Weiss were with me every step of the way. The results achieved far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Gary Weiner and his partner Scott Weiss.

From my perspective unless you have unexpectedly come into a huge sum of cash no one wants to speak to an attorney. Chances are if you are seeking legal counsel either something bad has happened, or is about to happen in your life. I equate hiring an attorney to purchasing insurance; you’re never happy to write that check but if you’ve done your research and chosen wisely that initial expenditure should far outweigh any potential long term monetary and emotional costs. Having recently been through an emotionally and financially devastating event I can say with supreme confidence that I had chosen wisely when I retained Gary Weiner. I’m not aggressive or confrontational by nature, in fact in many respects I’m probably too passive or “soft”. It is all fine and dandy to want the proverbial “pit bull” or “heartless” type of attorney portrayed in TV and movies until the reality sets in that you too, must deal with that persona. You may think that you are emotionally tough but unless you are without soul, you will feel tug on the heart strings when your family is entwined in legal battle. Gary has somehow mastered the ability to be relentless, aggressive and intimidating in representing your legal interests while still maintaining the ability to truly empathize with his client. In retrospect there were times he was a quasi therapist, patiently listening to me excessively lament and offering insightful advice and experienced guidance. Never once did any of my interactions with Gary feel contrived or insincere. Gary is as genuine a human being as I have ever met; he is without question a very good man. I suspect that given his skill level Gary could flourish in any segment or niche of law, but given his “human” side and his constitution I feel that he is doing exactly what he is meant to do for those fortunate enough to have retained him for assistance. ---Michael from Boca Raton

Gary and his team helped defend me in a recent dispute over child support and parenting rights initiated by my ex-wife. This is my 3rd legal proceedings including my initial divorce over a decade ago, and I had consulted with 2 other divorce lawyers before finding Gary Weiner. This case was particularly sensitive for me, and I dreaded the idea of going back to court after all these years since my divorce. Gary always conducted himself in a calm and professional manner, and kept me well informed throughout the proceedings. Moreover the professionalism of his team made the process efficient and refreshingly simple. Amazingly, on several different occasions, Gary took explicit steps to save me money, and even went so far as to absorb an ambiguous charge on my behalf made by a 3rd party! Ultimately, Gary's wealth of experience, professional conduct, calm-demur, and exceptional intellect took it's toll, and my ex-wife failed to achieve any of her objectives. The lives of my children have been markedly improved by his involvement, and for that I am deeply grateful to Gary and his team. If you're seeking for the BEST lawyer in town, I emphatically recommend Gary Weiner!

I was injured over a year ago and the last law firm I had chosen was doing absolutely nothing for me. I decided that I was going to check around and that is when I found this lawfirm. I am very pleased already and thankful to find people who actually care. I would recommend this group to anyone.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Boca Raton, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
