Pros
1
Highly knowledgeable and experienced family law attorney, including being board certified
“She wholeheartedly understood my situation and was the only lawyer to resolve my 10 year nightmare.”
2
Provides honest, realistic, and thorough advice about the divorce process and potential outcomes
“Tina was always honest with me, and her ability to give me all the good AND bad news if there was any was what ultimately steered me in the right direction and lead to settlement of my case.”
3
Highly responsive and available to clients, even on weekends and after hours
“I dealt with a lawyer in another matter (not family law) who never responded to any of my calls or emails. Tina was always willing to answer my questions and explain the law to me, and that was really helpful to me to know what was going on in the case and why these things were happening.”
4
Aggressive and effective in court, impressing judges with her preparation and knowledge
“When we went to trial, Tina amazed me! She was so professional and she clearly impressed the judge with her preparation and knowledge of the law and procedure.”
5
Provides excellent value for her services, with reasonable hourly rates and overall fees
“Tina's hourly rate was less than the other attorneys I spoke with even though they did not have even half of her qualifications, and her fees were a lot less than my ex-wife's fees for the entire divorce case.”
Cons
1
Billing practices can be focused on maximizing billable hours rather than efficient case resolution
“Billable, billable, billable. Never returns phone calls. I never knew the status of my case. Drug the case out for months with no resolve.”
2
Some clients felt they didn't receive enough personal attention or timely communication
“I was more stressed from this office than I was from the case.”

Tina Lewrt instilled in me that there are lawyers in family law that understand unique situations. I had horrible experiences with several lawyers and finding Ms. Lewert was nothing shy of a Godsend. She wholeheartedly understood my situation and was the only lawyer to resolve my 10 year nightmare. I cannot thank Ms. Lewert enough for the freedom she gave me and my son. She has proven to be...the best!

Tina is a wonderful attorney. She guided me through my ugly case and ultimately her wisdom lead me to successful settlement of my case. She wasn’t afraid to advise me of the pros AND cons of my case, and the legal system which can be brutal, and I always felt like she was being straight with me, instead of just telling me what I wanted to hear like another attorney I spoke with. Tina is quick on her feet and I could also tell that she is respected by judges and other attorneys (by the way everyone treated her when we did have to go to court to finalize the divorce once settled). If you need a strong, confident divorce lawyer who also happens to be a good person, hire Tina Lewert.

I hired Tina after I was already a few months into my divorce filing with another attorney and wasn't getting anywhere. She delivered everything she promised and was able to deal with difficult opposing counsel and my narcissist ex and get my divorce done quickly with the best possible outcome. I would highly recommend her.

Tina Lewert is an attorney that I trust. Her professionalism and knowledge in her field of law was thorough. This is the second time I used her services. She is certainly not intimated by opposing attorneys or their client. I have the upmost respect for her and in tough situations she shows her outstanding abilities to handle anything that comes her way. She showed she truly cares about me as a person and client, which can be hard to find. Tina listens and answers questions. I know she loves her profession and is driven to make sure that the end results were in my best interest. Tina also surrounds herself with a staff that's reliable to answer questions or return a call or email efficiently. I enjoyed working with Tina and would highly recommend her.

I hired Tina Lewert to represent me in my extremely contentious divorce last year. Ms. Lewert was a life saver! She was very helpful and her staff was very understanding and patient with me during the most painful time of my life. Tina was also very responsive and always returned my calls, texts, and emails, even though she is very busy and in court a lot. I appreciated that because I have worked with other attorneys (this was my first divorce attorney though) and I know that attorneys can sometimes be hard to reach. So I give her a lot of credit for that. My case was complicated and Tina kept calm and cool through the whole thing but really did an amazing job making my case come together in the end! Very impressive, and I know she is one of the best out there! Thank you, Tina!

I was injured over a year ago and the last law firm I had chosen was doing absolutely nothing for me. I decided that I was going to check around and that is when I found this lawfirm. I am very pleased already and thankful to find people who actually care. I would recommend this group to anyone.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Boca Raton, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
