I Highly recommend CB&F, they are very professional, courteous and will go the extra mile for their clientele. They are very straight foward and treat you like family. I was in a bad accident and they helped me navigate through every twist and turn to make sure I was properly taken care of so that all my needs were met. If your in need of attorney that will be on your side CB&F should be your first and last stop. 5 stars all the way around!

Absolutely incredible experience with this firm. From the first moment I spoke to the receptionist to the final day of wrapping everything up, they brought ease and care to the entire process. I felt like I was part of the family and they cared for me beyond measure. It was about so much more than the actual litigation…they went above and beyond the call of duty and handled something that wasn’t even part of my case. One Friday night when time was of the essence, I was given someone’s cell number so that I could reach out over the weekend. On top of everything else, my insurance wouldn’t agree to finish fixing my car, and Mike and Alan took care of it all. Here I am calling from a playground crying and they reassured me that my kids would be in a safe car soon…this isn’t even something that they have to handle but they did. It was like calling my brother to help me out. They took a really awful life experience and brought so much comfort throughout the process. Their level of expertise in their field was incredible…while I mostly worked with Mike, every single person was at one point involved. Thank you again for bringing me so much peace…much love to you all! -Emily

Mike Finegan represented me through two car accidents that occurred, where the cases overlapped each other. In 2019 I was left with permanent injuries, and a totaled vehicle. Mr. Finegan and his team helped me through every step of the process. Funds for a vehicle were recovered expeditiously. Unfortunately, this was at a time where I was just starting trade school which is full time hours, while working a job. It greatly affected my ability to work in two physically demanding environments. Fast forward, I had to move back to my hometown due to Covid-19, and his team made sure I was able to receive care as everything re-opened. Due to the nature of trade school, when you miss hours/make up hours this can accrue an additional expense. Upon graduating he helped me navigate this with school admin, and I was able to work out an exemption. As this case was coming to a close I was in another car accident. Once again, a totaled vehicle, and worsening symptoms, this time at the start of my career. Mike was very realistic with what to expect since this was a 2nd accident. Navigating 2 car accidents and treatment for pain (especially in your early 20’s) is not for the faint of heart, but Mike and his team truly put my mind at ease. They answered every question I had, were thorough about every step of the process, and made sure I was confident with every decision I had to make. I felt that I received the care you would get if you were a family member. The last 5 years of my life were incredibly challenging, but I am beyond thankful for the care I received working with Mike and his team. I am happy with the result of how both cases ended, and would recommend anyone going through a personal injury case to choose MIke.

Michael and his staff never estimated their ability to handle this case from day one for me. This is a complicated case dealing with a parents house in a pending 7 year foreclosure case. After much research on his background and reading several of his motions and affirmative defense stradgies in similar type cases I chose him. This a well seasoned team with excellent service skills in all aspects of their office. I highly recommend this team.

I was looking for an ethical, well informed and reasonably priced lawyer and I got all of those things and much more with Ms. Storay. My sister passed away unexpectedly. I live in another state and I had no idea how I would ever be able to handle all the many details of probate, but Ms. Storay was very compassionate and helped me with every detail. Forever grateful to her!

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brandon, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
