Extremely overpriced! Attorney Lambert did not communicate with us, she did not return emails, did not have our best interest in mind and she kept us in the dark completely, not a good feeling while mourning my father’s passing. She grossly mismanaged my fathers estate at our expense. She walked away with 4X’$ what other probate lawyers would have charged. She did not have the beneficiaries best interest in mind, only the PRs. BIG huge mess and she just kept on charging $$$$$! She did not have the skills required to do a probate and she should have told us that! Run do not walk away from this attorney unless family and money do not matter to you. She ruined family relationships and made out quite well from my fathers estate. I could go on and on…and I have proof of everything!!! For a probate case that should have cost a max of $4000 (according to other Attorneys that I’m happy to recommend) she walked away with over $15,000! Plus, she mismanaged my fathers inventory!$$! Probate 101. Very, very upsetting experience that I would not wish on anyone.

I really can't say enough good things about Bob and his staff. He was the first lawyer that actually spoke with me over the phone to answer some of my questions, this is practically unheard of in this day and age, and based on this conversation I choose to hire him. I feel very fortunate to have found an attorney that I feel is trust worthy, honest, fair and has my back. He and his staff were very efficient with quick follow up on my legal needs and any questions I had. I only wish I had meet of him sooner since I found out he represents all types of legal issues. I will definitely being using Bob for any legal counsel or needs I might have in the future as well as referring all my friends and family to his office.

Having Mr. Zimmerman represent me during a difficult time in my life was a solid decision. He is personable, knowledgeable and reliable. His rates are affordable and he allows payment plans, which I found to be extremely helpful. After consulting with three different attorneys, I am glad I chose Mr. Zimmerman - he brought calm and compassion to a stressful situation. Highly recommend his services.

Very professional and personable. Any time I called I was able to speak to him directly with any questions and concerns I had. I would recommend him to anyone. I have consulted with him regarding bankruptcy. After reviewing my details he informed me a bankruptcy wasn't in my best interest and gave me alternatives. Never ceases to amaze me. Not the stereotypical lawyer by any means.

Attorney O’Connor is a very compassionate attorney. She listens to my concerns and the history of my case and grasped a full understanding of what I needed done to move my case forward. She educated me on the legal process and I was always aware of what the next steps were. Her assistant, Chyrl, is very kind and communicative. I am very pleased with the outcome of my case. I would recommend Brandon Law to anyone looking for family/custody issues.

At the start of the year in 2020 and during the start of the scare of COVID19, I had the added burden of defending a divorce petition. After contacting Attorney O’Connor, I felt I was in good hands. Having to go through a most challenging and stressful divorce proceeding which lasted almost two years, I became more confident there was no better person to have guided and lawyered me through the ordeal than Attorney O’Connor. Thanks to her legal guidance and professionalism, I was able to sustain the enormous pressure and instead of caving in, I eventually prevailed in the case. I highly recommend Attorney Tanya O’Connor for your legal troubles. During a harrowing two-year legal battle, she brought me through it with peace of mind.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brandon, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
