Life is not easy, divorce makes it much much worse. Stephanie gets it! She helped me through a very rough emotional patch and also acquired a favorable outcome in a situation that was not promising at first. Stephanie knows the law, she's excellent at what she does, she's compassionate and very patient. She's fair, she's honest and she's a fighter. She's FOR HER CLIENTS 100%! I found her by the grace of God. I was looking for another attorney and called Stephanie thinking she worked with her... There are no coincidences and I'm so glad that I was sent to her "by accident". I don't recommend divorce but if you find yourself in that situation, GET STEPHANIE! She's the real deal. Love You!

This kind of law firm should not exist on this planet. They just care about the money. There was no consultation whatsoever and right away charged me for $5500 without knowing what my case is about. Because of them i lost $50000. My wife sent all of her cash onto family members approximately 200,000 nobody cared and then they suggested me to sign the mediation what i regret so much. After the mediation a called 3 lawyers and they said how stupid i am. This lawyer cam only solve non problematic cases maximum but for that u dont need lawyer that is so simple. I hope these guys will lose their licenses one day.

This woman is a superhero! The amount of gratitude I have for how beautifully Stephanie represented and supported me during my divorce is something I cannot express or ever repay. I went through a high conflict divorce that involved young children. Stephanie was the second attorney in my divorce case. My original attorney hired her to represent me when my divorce case went to trial and my original attorney was not available for my trial. At first, I was frustrated that I had no say in who would be representing me at my trial but what a gift she turned out to be. A staff member from another family law office mentioned to me that if they needed a divorce trial attorney, Stephanie Koether would 100% be the one they hired because she is incredible in the court room. From my first meeting with Stephanie, I felt so comfortable with her and knew that she was passionate about my case. From day one, she began rescuing me in ways I didn’t even know I needed rescuing. First she is brilliant! She knows family law and the local players inside and out. She worked brilliantly on my case and helped create solutions that both parties could agree on. She educated me on the realities and likelihood of each scenario so that I would be prepared and could make the best use of my time and money. When my former spouse and I could not agree, she advised me how to navigate those situations so we could find solutions and language that the court would approve. After learning the personalities and ugly history of my specific situation, she helped create parenting plans that would provide much needed protection and structure for my family. Secondly, her intuition is spot on. She quickly got up to date on the people, personalities and bizarre dynamics involved in my case. She anticipated issues and created solutions before the issues even came up. She may be young, but she is very experienced and respected in her industry. Thirdly, she is passionate about her clients. She fights for and protects her clients like they are her children. She protected me from attacks and created a structure to continue to protect me and my children from the chaos that divorce can create. When necessary, she told me the hard truths honestly yet gently. She pushed me when I needed pushing and also sat with me patiently providing support when the sadness of divorce became overwhelming. When I didn’t understand something, she explained it to me calmly and succinctly. Stephanie consistently responds quickly and is easily accessible. I would highly recommend Stephanie Koether to anyone going through a divorce, specifically a high conflict divorce. You want and need Stephanie in your corner!

My husband and I created a life together. Two perfect kids, a lovely house, and one dog. When he told me he wanted a divorce my life was turned upside down, until I turned to Mr. Griffin. He’s professional, extremely knowledgeable and instantly I knew my life had been turned right side up. My divorce was not perfect, as none will be, but Mr. Griffin made sure my interests were perfectly protected while at the same time recognizing a family needed to be respected and was. My husband and I still talk to this day about how my attorney was better than his and our kids are better for it ;). Thank you, Mr. Griffin!

Michael and his staff never estimated their ability to handle this case from day one for me. This is a complicated case dealing with a parents house in a pending 7 year foreclosure case. After much research on his background and reading several of his motions and affirmative defense stradgies in similar type cases I chose him. This a well seasoned team with excellent service skills in all aspects of their office. I highly recommend this team.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brandon, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
