Hired Chris for divorce.. He proved to be a very nasty, insulting, judgmental, sick, unhappy person. He knows how to be nice at first, to reel in your business, but he turned into a nightmare of hostility and incompetence. He made frequent mistakes including huge errors in my final judgement document. He mixed me up with other clients. He often would side with opposing counsel against my wishes. I gave him a flat fee retainer with the understanding that if the case went to court, he would need an additional $10,000, refundable if it didnt go to court. Even though I knew it would settle, I gave him only $6200 for court because I sensed that he was going to rip me off. We settled the case through my negotiations and not his expertise. He was completely triggered by opposing attorney and intimidated by him. After final judgment, his immediate phone call to me was hostile belligerence, not good luck to you. He deliberately picked a fight for no reason. He refused to refund the $6200. Citing that it was like a commission for me keeping most of my house. I see these reviews that are good and it baffles me, because he was atrocious in every aspect. Retirement should be a necessity.

Mr. Christopher Yeazell represented our special needs child in a very unique case. Chris developed an immediate rapport, and level of TRUST with our autistic child. We knew then that Chris was going to fight for our child like his own child. Chris ensured us that our child's rights, and well being were his immediate, and long term priority. Chris was professionally aggressive, and diligent with our case from day one. Chris accomplished everything, and more that we could have hoped for. This case was extremely emotional for our family. We can't thank Chris enough for standing with and for us, and fighting the right fight. We highly recommend Chris and his firm for any case. Mr. Yeazell is brilliant, dedicated, and committed to his craft. Chris is an exceptional person, and highly skilled attorney.

I highly recommend Christopher Yeazell. He was of tremendous help when my son was charged with criminal offenses. He also represented me in small claims and traffic court. In each case Mr. Yeazell explained the law and court processes in easily understandable laymen’s terms. When he went to court he handled the cases with the utmost professionalism and courtesy, in and out of the courtroom. I believe his expertise was instrumental, in the case of the criminal offenses my son was charged with, in getting the charges reduced and needed counseling. For the small claims the amount owed was smaller and in traffic court I did not get any points and received reduced fines. I will continue to avail of his services if needed in the future

When we were faced with having to hire a criminal defense attorney for my son in Florida while we resided in another state, we had to resort to searching online for one. Once we narrowed it down to our top 3 choices based on background, experience, etc., we had a phone interview with each of them and finally settled on Chris Yeazell. We hoped we had picked the right attorney for my son since this was a capital case with life-changing consequences. There were times over the 3 years it took to finally take the case to trial when we had doubts he would come through and set my son free from the false accusation against him. Every day in court during the 4-day trial, Chris Yeazell proved to be an absolutely amazing defense attorney and caused us to feel more hopeful and certain that we had made the right choice. He proved to be extremely detailed and had obviously done a great deal of research which allowed him to present the case logically and efficiently. He attacked each of the prosecutions' witnesses with surgical precision but without demeaning or bullying them. The expert witnesses he called to the stand for the defense were the final key to casting reasonable doubt on every bit of the prosecution's "evidence", which resulted in a NOT GUILTY verdict. Even the prosecutor himself, as well as the judge, congratulated him on doing an excellent job. In short, if you have to go to trial for a criminal charge, you definitely want Chris Yeazell on your side defending you. We could not have chosen a better attorney to represent us.

I had a long running - 4 years - problem with a business partner involving intellectual property issues and I consulted Alan about this. He was knowledgeable but it was not his area of expertise so he roped in a colleague who specialized in the area. What impressed me is how Alan shepherded the process and kept it on track. He was always on top of actions that needed to be taken and worked actively to keep the billing hours as low as possible. Eventually the strategy he devised with his partner resolved my issue in ninety days. Subsequently I have retained Alan as my attorney for all my business and personal affairs including wills and estate planning and have been very happy with the service I get. An earlier reviewer reported that Alan did not return phone calls and his staff were discourteous. I cannot believe this because my experience has been the exact opposite. I have frequently received a response from Alan to my emails within seconds. His staff is most courteous and eager to help. On one occasion I pointed out an error to his assistant and she felt so bad that Alan called me to find out exactly what had happened. His staff take pride in work well done and he sets the tone himself. I am not competent to evaluate a lawyer's expertise. But I have been around long enough to judge a professional and I am highly confident that Alan is a super attorney - confident in what he knows in the areas in which he specializes, and well connected enough to assemble a competent legal team for whatever problem you are confronting. On one occasion I had a friend who needed legal help in the not-for-profit arena. Alan gave me a recommendation that my friend was thoroughly happy with. Finally, Alan is an attorney and will bill you for his time. But he has also helped many clients in different ways that go way past legal issues. I have met many of these clients personally and their testimonials are the reason I use him as my own attorney.

Alan Gassman was recomended when my wife and I were looking to update our wills. He worked very closely with us on setting up a trust. This was several years ago. We have continued working with him on updating the trust. Alan and his staff got us through an inheritance situation when a relative died and the original will could not be found. We also used his offices for some insurance problems regarding my wife,s mother. He got results when we were getting nowhere with the insurance company. In all cases we have found that he and his staff have always met or exceeded our expectations. My wife and I would be more than happy to recomend Alan Gassman.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Clearwater, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
