Outstanding Attorney with Exceptional skills and dedication – Highly Recommended! (Apologies for the delay in posting this review!) After several attorneys rejected my case, Mr. Layo took the time to thoroughly review and identified the potential in my case that others overlooked. From the very beginning, he provided invaluable guidance in drafting the proposed endeavor and carefully working through reviewing all of my Letters of Recommendation (LORs). His meticulous approach to preparing and reviewing my statement in support of my EB2 NIW application was truly impressive. What stood out the most was his ability to understand the core of my career and his attention to detail in every step of the process. He was always willing to work with me on even the smallest details, ensuring everything was tailored to my specific circumstances. Thanks to his personalized approach and dedication, I was able to secure my EB2 NIW I-140 approval in a remarkably short time. What surprised me is he was equally happy on the approval, showcasing his hard work, patience and the attention he gives towards the client and the profession. I am incredibly grateful for his work and highly recommend him to anyone seeking a knowledgeable and thorough immigration attorney. Thank you for making this journey so smooth and successful! Wish I had known the law firm earlier to save a lot of hassle!

The attorney represented me when my small business (day care center) was involved in a workers comp lawsuit and the employee was not our employees. She made sure we were aware of all the legality and took time to explain everything in our language. We were pleased with the result at the end of the trial.

Attorney Masson was very attentive to my concerns and made sure I understood the entire process, which may be confusing as far as what I was entitled to do as a business owner when dealing with injured employees. I would recommend her services to my friends, business partners and family.

Justin was recommended to us by a family friend, just a couple of days ago, and we are so very Thankful! We learned so much from him in just a matter of a couple of phone calls. He hadn't even taken our case right away, due to all the confusion of it being criminal/civil; but he still went OUT of his way to contact the court clerk and judge to ask about the case number directly. His professionalism, expertise and knowledge of the laws ensured we were heading in the right direction. His dedication is quite effident, he called us first this morning to inform us our case has been dropped...If you ever need a criminal lawyer in Florida, Justin is your MAN!

The entire team is amazing. Not only did Rickman win my DUI case and kept me well informed, he was there for me as a friend by staying positive and supportive. 1 year after my case his staff Courtney and receptionist and I apologize for not remembering her name, they both where always willing to help by providing documents needed and answering question even though they were busy. It meant so much that they would drop whatever they were doing just to help me. I recommend them to all my family and friends.

I struggled with the Social Security administration (SSA), regarding my benefits, for several years. The SSA was asking me to repay them $15,000. I sought counsel from Attorney Jacobson. He was an exceptional lawyer, guiding me through the organization of my records, to prove to the SSA that I was not able to repay this money. I highly recommend Attorney Jacobson for thoughtful guidance and counsel.

Mr. Jacobson successfully represented me in a unique and complex divorce and child relocation case which involved moving children out of the state. He listened to and understood my objectives, while offering solid and sound advice. Stewart’s knowledge and experience with the State of Florida legal system showed in his preparation and execution. He is very detailed orientated and understands what it takes to win. In the end, I was able to relocate my children back to their hometown.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Clermont, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
