I never imagined I would be in a situation where I needed counsel from a family law professional. But there I was, in need of a lawyer that could help me protect my children from their father. When I met Juan, I had recently reported my husband to the authorities for harming our children. I knew I wanted to protect my children, but other than knowing I didn’t want their father in their lives, I didn’t know how to proceed. Juan was recommended to me by an acquaintance. I engaged Juan's services shortly after speaking with him about my situation. I was stressed, nervous and frankly quite lost. I didn't know how to navigate the law as it pertained to what had just happened to my family. But after learning about Juan's background as a former Department of Children and Families prosecutor and his experience with cases similar to mine, I felt confident in hiring him. To add to the turmoil, because of the nature of what my husband did, DCF was engaged. So, we were leveraging two parts to my case, the legal aspect around terminating the father’s parental rights, and inquiries, interviews and visits made by DCF. Everything at once seemed like a lot, but Juan knew exactly what to do and how to navigate these situations. Within a few days Juan prepared a strategic, foolproof actionable plan that ultimately resulted in me getting full custody of my children and removing all parental rights from the father. He worked to expedite the process (which considering it took place amidst the Covid-19 pandemic still moved relatively quickly through the courts), within five months our case was complete and closed in our favor). With Juan's help and support I gained the confidence to make the right legal decisions to protect my children (in the short and long term). During this time, I found Juan to be intelligent, empathetic, supportive, ahead of the issues that we would eventually face in court, and very understanding. He was honest, transparent, thorough, and is very good at cutting through all of the noise (emotional distress and pain, etc.) to help you see the best solution for your loved ones. Juan helped me address my legal needs at the moment, but consistently worked to ensure our work had long lasting effects. When it came to my children's safety he made power moves that would keep them safe over a lifetime, and I was extremely appreciative of this foresight and vision. Juan was essential to the success of my case. He was an ally and a partner. He is strongly passionate about his work and deeply cares about the well-being of all children (as demonstrated by his previous work and experience). I cannot imagine having gone through this with another partner, and would highly recommend Juan to anyone seeking counsel to protect children from any harm.
