After making a prototype of my invention for myself, I decided I wanted to manufacture and sell it. I patented my invention 1) because I didn’t want anyone to copy it and 2) I didn’t want cheap copies that didn’t work to show up on the market. After 14 years in production I have found that yes, people want to copy it and yes, the copies are cheap and poorly functioning. So far, a nice letter to the individuals has stopped the copying but if the time comes that someone wants to challenge the patent then the patent better be able to stand up in court. That is why I highly recommend John Rizvi, The Patent Professor. He understands the legalities and how patents should be written. In addition, he was understanding, helpful and patient with all the questions I had going into this.
