This law office has to one of the worst in the pan handle! I've dealt with many of the attorneys in the area, but never dealt with the staggering amount of disrespect, disregard, and unprofessional behavior that comes with dealing with this Husband and wife duo. Stanley is beyond over loaded with caes from the state that they nearly consume his office space, he tries to take the easiest route to close the case and get rid of it. He talks to and makes deals with the state that are not in your best interests and will lie and pressure you to take what ever deal they offer even if it'll lead you into a legal corner with no other options. His wife has no care in the world for what you are going through and is the most disrespectful person you may ever deal with. If you question her opinion or what she says she will get rude and nasty, even go as far a cuss you out. She will intentionally ignore your calls to their office to force you to send emails. Stay away if have a dependency case.

Mr. Luke is a great attorney. I read the review posted May 27, 2016 and it was nowhere close to any experience I have had with him or his secretary. I don't know how long this person used Mr. Luke, but he has represented me for over three years now mainly on a very nasty divorce as well as 2 separated charges relating to it. I have never had a problem making appointments with him or getting a call back, he has even returned my call in between his court cases. Mr. Luke is a private attorney (no law firm) and has court several days a week he also reviews his cases and preps right before a hearing, he conducts meditations and several other services you can see on his web site so no doubt he is a busy man. Getting an appointment at is office is no different then making appointments with any other professional such as a doctor or dentist, more than likely you won't be able to see him right away but normally within a day or two you will it also depends on how long you need to talk with him as with any private attorney. If it is important he has always made every attempt to at least call, even after hours. Out of the 6 attorneys I have used he has been by far the best. Mr. Luke is up front and honest based on his 30+ years of law experience he will give you your best and worst case scenarios on what your outcome might be. He's won't promise to win your case because no attorney knows how the Judge will rule. In another review it said "When in the court room he did and said nothing" this comment is outrages. I have sat in court with him numerous times and if there was an issue I wanted him to bring up sometimes he did but sometimes he didn't. If he didn't after court he would explain to me why, there are a lot of legal procedures to follow, or it may have hurt me instead of helped and sometimes you can't just bring up what you want to the Judge if it is not related to the case at hand. This is how I know that Stan Luke takes time for each of his clients to personally review, study and have a plan before stepping into the courtroom. His secretary (and yes wife) Alisa has always been helpful to me and my family and goes the extra step to help find the answers to any questions we've had. Yes, they sometimes have their granddaughter with them while at the office which is their own personal business, but at the time that bad review was written time the baby sleep most of the time anyway. Never, even when she was an infant did I have any trouble with Alisa taking messages, making copies of documents, printing me out documents, making appointments and I even watched her answering office calls all while caring for a baby. As far as I am concerned that really says a lot. To conclude this rebuttal of the May 27, 2016 review, it is may opinion that the person who wrote that was angry at Mr. Luke and wanted to give him a bad reputation. This is my proof to back up my opinions since I filed for divorce I went from seeing my kids every other weekend to having primary custody and the other legal issues related to it, my ex is now charged with perjury facing felony charges. I know this was long but check out his web site and http://www.luke-law.com/ consult with him and decide for yourself. Thanks

Stanley was hired to protect my rights. Every time I tried to make an appointment to go over things with him, I was told how busy he was for other clients and that he would call me back. Never received a phone call. When in the court room he did and said nothing, I tried to get him to say anything but he told me to be quiet. His wife is his secretary. She would be rude to my family on the phone. She was always at work with a baby in her arms. I would go into the office and she would have to ask me the same questions over and over again because she could not write things down with the baby in her arms.

We were sued when we would not sign a quit claim deed for an adjoining property. It was not that we wanted the other property, but the survey provided was incorrect and the other party wanted us to sign an incorrect deed. Since we would not sign this incorrect deed we were sued. We were one of five parties involved in the case. In an effort to avoid trial all parties involved met at one of the attorney's office. We instructed Ashley what our desires were (correct deed and deeded access to our property). Not only did she accomplish our goals, but it was clear that she was far and away the best attorney involved. She took charge of the meeting and directed the other attorneys on what they needed to do. On several occasions the other attorneys specifically said to Ashley "well, you know better than I do...". The fact that she did exactly what we wanted (and what she said she was going to do) was very nice. It was also very comforting to know that we were represented by the most knowledgeable attorney present. Once Ashley was witnessed "in action" all of our worries about this problem went away. Ashley made the our first experience of being sued as pleasant as could be!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?
Understanding potential obstacles helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Crestview, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
