This attorney ignored all forensic and medical reports which were in my favor, only to dismiss my case while collecting thousands of dollars. I personally did all of the legwork, only to get shafted. I would only refer to my worst enemy.

We experienced lots of challenges when navigating a new construction purchase agreement in FL, in the face of supply chain delays & clearly understanding our options if we needed to cancel or negotiate with the builder. We were able to give Athena all the questions, scenarios & concerns we had about the purchase agreements & our legal options. She explained all the terms of our agreement clearly & answered each scenario & question we had thoroughly so that we could assess the best steps forward. She provided great counsel & advice in regards to best ways to handle issues with the builder & helped us to have a full understanding (more importantly peace of mind) regarding the legal jargon & ramifications of our purchase that we weren't familiar with. She helped clarify FL estate law, so that the purchase agreement was executed correctly. When we sought out her counsel on concerns we had on the closing notary regarding spousal roles on the deed, she did her research on other cases & gave us awesome counsel the same day since our closing date was pending. I would highly recommend her for anyone needing help navigating home purchase agreements, new construction purchases, home closing notaries and real estate contracts and cases. She is highly responsive to timelines, cares about her clients, knowledgable about real estate law, and works hard to find everything that will help make sure her clients have the best legal resources & options to succeed. Would absolutely work with her again & I recommend her to close family & friends.

Athena and her paralegal, Lauren, were of great assistance with getting our tenant out of our rental home in FL. We currently reside in AZ and without legal representation, we would have really struggled to get this tenant to move. Athena walked us through each step and kept in constant contact with us to ensure everything progressed forward.

I had the privilege of working with Stephanie Ockunzzi during a very stressful and time-sensitive legal situation, and I can confidently say she is an exceptional attorney. My case was a domestic violence injunction hearing, scheduled for a Tuesday. I found out the day before that my soon-to-be ex-wife had hired a lawyer, which left me scrambling. A reputable law firm recommended Stephanie, so I reached out to her immediately. She responded within minutes, and after a brief but thorough conversation, I knew I wanted her to represent me. I retained her that same day. Despite having less than 24 hours to prepare for the hearing, Stephanie was incredibly organized and professional. The entire process was handled efficiently and seamlessly online — from signing retainer agreements to submitting evidence. On the day of the hearing, Stephanie took the time to meet with me in person and go over everything in detail. She was calm, confident, and reassuring, which made me feel well-prepared and supported. Her expertise and knowledge of the law were evident throughout the entire process. She knew exactly how to present the facts, and her professionalism was clear in the way she navigated the hearing. Ultimately, the case was ruled in my favor, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I highly recommend Stephanie Ockunzzi to anyone in need of legal representation. She’s a skilled, responsive, and dedicated attorney who goes above and beyond for her clients.

Stephanie was referred to me by several larger firms that didn’t want to take my case due to it being a long standing neighborhood issue with years of evidence to pour over. Not only did she do her due diligence to review the litany of information I provided her but she came into the court room swinging and we won!!!

I was lost before I found Ms. Puro. She helped me understand everything in regards to my case to the point that I feel like I can be a paralegal (just kidding about becoming a paralegal but but did I learn a lot from her. She gave me strength during such a hard time dealing with my divorce and she fought for me as much as she could. She never steered me wrong and I felt so comfortable with her because she was always honest with me. If you are a looking for an attorney that will be there for you and fight til the end with you this to make sure you are not taken advantage of well not need to look anymore because Ashley Puro is the only attorney you’ll need.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Destin, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
