If you're looking for someone who fights for you, keep on looking. Honestly. Rebecca took it upon herself to subpoena a witness without my knowledge and then showed up late for trial claiming she was sick. She was unprepared for or the witness so she made up an illness. She had the trial cancelled then charged me for it. No consideration given for the day I had to take off from work. Rebecca claimed that a man with "a red nose" came into her office the day prior and allegedly got her sick. This forced a continuance. Three months later when the opposition obtained a new lawyer, she filed a motion of unavailability, and another continuance would need to be set for a future trial, all the while working on other cases. At this point, the trial would've gone on for another 6 months at least. I had rights to the marital home and student loans. I have twin boys who had endured this case long enough. Their peace and my own were primary. Its still hard to believe, the sabotage she created...to her own client. To say ethics were breached is an understatement.

Did not have clients interest at heart. Keep saying take the deal you are going to lose in court. Knew client was under detest and still allowed the client to sign paperwork even after client took Prescribe medication (narcotic)

I am so impressed by Rebecca and her dedication to my case. I was very scared and confused and she came in on her day off to meet with me and immediately made me feel better and that she could help me. Rebecca answered any calls or texts I sent almost immediately and never let me feel out of the loop. She did great research and was very thorough. I'm so greatful to have found such an honest hard working and personable attorney. I highly recommend her and trust her completely.

I am thankful that Attorney Colson was available for a relative. Attorney Colson seemed down to earth and personable and I felt like she truly cared about my family member. Her down to earth, personable approach was important, for involvement with the courts can be confusing and intimidating to say the least. Thank you Attorney Colson.

I've hired Nicole Jamieson a few times now to help me with my cases and I cannot say enough about her ethics in the court room. She is honest, and fought for me to keep me out of prison and I couldn't be more grateful and thankful for her. She is definitely the number one attorney here in Nassau County and I would highly recommend her to anyone needing help in the court system. She may be little but don't let her size fool you, she is who you want standing next to you in the court room! Tracy will always be there to answer questions when Mrs Jamieson is busy so huge thank you to her and her team!

My initials are DB and and am an registered nurse with a multistate license. I have never been arrested, much less pulled over and I am 33 years old. I found myself in an unfortunate situation facing a felony charge with two years minimum of state prison along with three misdemeanor charges. I am a mother of three young children and a wife of 10 years. I hired one attorney from Jacksonville initials A.K. that for 8 months couldn’t handle my case, the best he was giving me was trial. At the last moment I sought out Nicole. With grace, faith, and compassion she listened to my case and agreed to take me on with this risk to failing since the previous attorney had wasted so much time. She met privately with the District Attorney and then the District attorney supervisor. Nicole met me in person, zoom and answered all emails promptly. Nicole provided her personal cell number and remained in touch at all times, never made me feel as if I was bothering her with even the smallest detail. Once she took over my case I was informed on what was happening, the verbiage and the next phase. Within four months of hiring her my case was resolved and with no convictions, state dropped all felony charges and I’m only on misdemeanor probation for two years, which is a miraculous sentence due to the severity of charges and the DA that was assigned my case. The previous attorney I hired wasted 8 months, and never once met with the DA in person nor the supervisor. Also the previous attorney never gave me direct contact to his phone always through his office. His email was at least 24 hrs response. I cannot speak highly enough of Nicole and her compassion, non judgmental, and knowledge of the legal system. She flows through the court room and everyone knows her. Her presence is confident and powerful, just what you need when facing serious charges. Forever grateful for her courage, honesty, integrity and professionalism.

Nicole Jamieson is an invested, caring professional with the skills to handle the most complicated cases. Nicole presented defense for my daughter, who had several charges, including 3 felony charges. We went into court knowing she could receive 3-5 years in state prison. Nicole succeeded in getting the sentence down to 9 months of community control . I would highly recommend Nicole.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fernandina Beach, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
