This lawyer is not competent for trial work Robert Judd handled a probate case for me. Before I hired him, he stated he was an experienced trial lawyer. It seemed pretty clear during the course of the litigation that he had little or no experience with trials. This was especially glaring in the way he allowed himself to be bullied and have his lines of questioning derailed during depositions. The defendant’s key witness was a falling-down drunk alcoholic who would have made a terrible impression in court. Without consulting me, he consented to allow her to appear by videotaped deposition (on the grounds that her demeanor would come through in the videotape), then neglected to arrange for the videotaping and, during the depositions, failed to ask many of the questions critical to the case. He filed what should have been a single complaint with two claims for relief as two, separate complaints, thereby multiplying his fee. He specifically stated in one of the complaints that we did not have a claim against Merrill Lynch -- thereby trashing our claim against probably the key defendant in the case. He was, on top of this, the single most expensive lawyer I ever dealt with. During the course of our representation he moved to another firm, thereby dramatically increasing his billing rate. We discovered this months later. Despite a firm understanding before we hired him as to the amount of money we had at our disposal, he ran through the entire amount very early in the course of representing us, then used our lack of money as an excuse to attempt to drop us as clients. When I asked what he expected the remaining cost of pursuing our claim to be, he replied with a number substantially greater than the original estimate. Looking back, I believe he knew he had dug such a hole by that point that victory was impossible and wanted out of the case. By any measure, I had an adequate amount of money to finance this case when I set out. In fact, I had about 50% more money than Mr Judd told us we would need. Even disregarding the Merrill-Lynch issue and the amateurishly botched depositions, by his billing practices he ran through this money so quickly that he made a viable case untenable. I do not consider him either trustworthy or competent, and I would not recommend that anyone employ his services.

It is a pleasure to recommend Mr. Judd at the highest level. He is very capable and qualified litigator who has assisted me in a difficult matter with great success. And, he is very responsive and takes the time to explain strategy and concepts in words I can understand. He is a great attorney.

Robert is a standout ! We were very lucky to have been introduced to him during a contested estate process that had been badly mishandled by another. He picked up a loosing case in the 4th quarter and quite literally "turned the tables". We are most grateful for his genuine concern and superlative abilities.

To Whom It May Concern, Mr. Judd has represented three generations of my family over the past decade in complex adversarial and transaction matters. His advocacy and legal skills are first rate and we could not be more satisfied and pleased with his representation. Mr. Judd is one of the few attorneys I have worked with over the years who is responsive, prompt, caring, efficient and most important is results oriented. His fees are very comparable to other attorneys in my area since I work in a line of business that has me working with attorneys in all the different fields of law. I have referred Mr. Judd to many of my friends, neighbors, clients and colleagues all of whom have thanked me for referring them such an outstanding person and attorney. I can honestly say from past and present conversations with my family and those that have hired Mr. Judd all agree that knowing he is there as our trusted advisor if any new matters should ever happen, has all of us sleeping very soundly at night knowing whole-heartedly that he will be there to successfully handle the situation with swiftness, knowledge, class and most importantly with the highest and greatest professionalism. Words alone cannot express the gratitude I have for Mr. Judd for helping us with all of our legal matters and concerns over the years.

From the very first call, I knew I picked the right firm. No question was too much. Every question was answered in a timely fashion. Each time I desired a change to something, I received sound easy to understand responses that helped me decide how important my original request was or was not. Bottom line, Chelsea and Hillary were both fantastic. I rarely do reviews so that the fact that I did this one should really tell you something.

Had an issue with former landlord and return of my security deposit. Contacted Scarnecchia Mullin and within 2 days Hillary had reviewed my situation, provided excellent advice and counsel on how to proceed. She also drafted and sent a letter to the landlord which resulted in an amicable resolution to my issue within 1 week. I was not expecting the quick turnaround time and resolution. I highly recommend this firm for their responsiveness, thoroughness and results.

I hired Cliff and his firm to handle a very complicated case after my business partner died. We had to aggressively but smartly get the company back from a bitter but sympathetic widow who would have driven the company and its employees into the ground. So thankful I hired a Cliff and Wolff Law. Got a result I never thought possible. Better than ever expected. All because of a smart strategy from the very beginning.

Mr. Wolff was able to give me sound advice and help me out with a very difficult and touchy situation. He also was able to handle the very aggressive opposing attorney handsomely, so that the matter could be concluded with a minimum of stress and a great result. I will definitely call on him again when I need legal help and have recommended him and will continue to recommend him to friends and business associates.

I recently hired Zach to assist me with a contract. Not only is he knowledgeable, intelligent, and highly competent when it comes to entertainment/sports/business/contract law, he was able to articulate everything in a very succinct and easy to understand way. I would recommend Zach to anyone who needs a transactional attorney!

My wife and I own a sports agency. We were introduced to Zach through a close personal friend. He really impressed us with his knowledge of law. We hired him as our general counsel for the agency. Little did we know that we would have to use his services within a month of us hiring him. We had an age/ identity dispute with a prospective client in the Dominican Republic. I tried to resolve the issue by myself but kept getting the runaround from the main MLB office. I let Zach know that I wasn't getting anywhere with the issue and let him take over. Within 48 hours he had the issue resolved and we were able to have the player eligible to sign with any big league team. In another instance we had an issue with a marketing company and one of our clients. I had Zach and his father Leon take care of the situation with their expertise in that type of law. They had a very aggressive approach while protecting the agency and myself. At the end of this particular situation I was very pleased with the outcome. I highly recommend the Margules Law Firm.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Lauderdale, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
