Divorce isn't easy, but I came out of this experience feeling way better than I did because of the fact I had Mrs. Kathy Dupuy-Bruno as my lawyer. If you're looking to hire a lawyer who is dependable, smart, and understanding, she's the one to have by your side. From the beginning until the end, Mrs. Dupuy-Bruno and her staff were amazing. All my questions and concerns were addressed on time and I was given great counsel on how to improve my case, and incidentally my family's life too. Resources on how to cut cost were made readily available and she made it easy to submit paperwork. We had to go to trial and when those days came by, she was just as reliable. She was prompt and knowledgeable, which made me less nervous and in turn gave me confidence in the outcome of my case. Overall, Mrs. Kathy was outstanding. A situation that could have been chaotic and very stressful, went smoothly because of Mrs. Dupuy-Bruno expertise and empathy.

I was going through the most difficult time of my life. I hired Kathy for a domestic violence case and I have to say she was well organized and prepared for my case. She walked me through every step and gave me great advice throughout the way. Then once that case was done, I hired her for my paternity case which took place in Miami because I couldn't do it without her. There were times I felt she wouldn't be aggressive enough with these Miami lawyers but she surprises you and she takes charge and she really knows her stuff. I will always recommend her to anyone going through family law matters. It would be a smart move to have her on your side.

Mrs. Dupuy Bruno is an awesome attorney who goes far and beyond to prove her point in a case. In my situation, the father of my children was arguing against his child support increasing. In preparation for court, Mrs. Dupuy Bruno shared with me research that she had viewed that was similar to mine. From her going far and beyond, it allowed me to know that she cared about my case and that she was going to do all that she could. Not only that, but she continued to keep me posted. Whenever I called her office and she wasn’t available, she would always return my calls. There was never a time that I had to sit around and wait for a response, because she was always up front, honest, and did not procrastinate. I always felt comfortable and assured that things would get accomplished. Mrs. Dupuy Bruno’s knowledge and organizational skills are impeccable! From this, she was able to represent well in court! With that being said…the final decision was in my favor! Thank You Mrs. Dupuy Bruno!!! And Thank You God!!!!!

We went to Kathy after reviewing on-line the education and background of several local attorneys. Kathy stood out immediately. My friend and I were purchasing a property jointly and wanted to protection much like a prenup. We had several ideas that Kathy took note of and then she proceeded to broaden the conversation to cover things we hadn't thought of. We were given a price for the services as specified and paid the fee. Kathy was timely and very thorough in her dealings with us. We concluded our business after two additional meetings. She is also very personable and was able to help us through several somewhat difficult issues. We have the highest regard for her and would recommend her to anyone without hesitation. She is our go-to gal for all legal advise and a friend as well.

John is an expert in wealth transfer planning and the use of sophisticated life insurance strategies. While working directly with several life insurance companies, my legal counsel made inquiries as to Attorney Iannucci's experience and expertise. Every company had the same opinion of John and I concur. He was detailed oriented, explained every facet of the proposed plan and answered our questions honestly and openly.

If I could give Robert Foley and Desiree Wilson 10 stars I would do so gladly. I had a situation that required their expertise and from the very beginning I was very impressed. Robert and Desiree asked me to come in person and took the time to explain the entire process from beginning to end. The initial meeting was well over an hour. I'll never forget that. Most attorneys wouldn't go out of their way like that. I had the benefit of having 2 outstanding lawyers for the price of one. Thanks to Robert and Desiree my case was dismissed and I was able to start to get my life back together. To say that I highly recommend them is a under statement. If ever in the future I should need their expertise I would retain them both in a heartbeat.

Very much the professional, Attorney Cruz, put me at ease the moment I walked into his office. As most people feel when they turn to an attorney to perform a task that we cannot do ourselves, I was completely defeated and had no idea of the types of documentation needed. Step by step, he led me through a rather difficult task and gave me the confidence I needed to complete all of the paperwork. He stayed "connected" and in less than 3 weeks the entire process was completed. In spite of the complete professional approach, I know he is a compassionate individual who intended to provide me with peace of mind. He listens!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Myers, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
