If I could give a negative star review on David Salter, I would.. by far, the worst criminal defense attorney I've ever had. Mr Salter was very negligent on his professional status to represent me in a criminal case. Mr Salter confused me with another client of his that had the same name as I do but with much worse charges and called me a liar in front of the judge. Thankfully the state attorney spoke up and advised Mr Salter of his mistake. At that point, Mr Salter made no effort to apologize to me or the courts in his wrongdoing. I strongly suggest if you're looking for a defense attorney, keep scrolling and look elsewhere.

If you are in need of a criminal lawyer in Gainesville I highly recommend David Salter. A year ago my son faced felony charges and, as you can imagine, we were feeling extremely stressed and anxious. He was the third lawyer we interviewed, and both my son and I felt almost immediately that Mr. Salter was the best fit for us. We felt he cared about helping my son and seemed very knowledgeable and competent. He also charged us a flat rate that was actually less than the retaining fee quoted to us by the other lawyers. When he saw my obvious relief, Mr. Salter explained that he looked at facts surrounding the case and charged us according to the amount of time he estimated would be needed to successfully resolve it. I remember as we were leaving his office it felt as though a tremendous weight was lifted from our shoulders. Mr. Salter has provided professional, reasonable and exceptional service. He patiently and promptly answered all of our questions and ultimately was able to negotiate a deferred prosecution agreement. My son has just completed the agreement terms and all charges have been dropped (again, a tremendous relief). I strongly advise you to hire David Salter as your lawyer.

David took my DUI case in January of 2012 and was extremely helpful from day 1. It was the first legal trouble I had gotten into. He educated me on what exactly the process would be that I was going to undertake and kept me up-to-date on information from the courts as soon as he received it. His fees were extremely reasonable and was always able to be contacted when I needed him. David took on a few other legal issues for me as well, and was able to get me the best possible deal for me out of them. He really put effort into my cases and did not stop until he did all he could do. I would, and have, highly recommended David to friends whom have also been in legal trouble.

He got back to all my emails immediately. Was honest about the amount of time he would take to finish my case. Fair about how he charged me. A kind guy to trust with your representation of character. And got started as soon as I asked for his help. He even included expungement when hiring him for a friend. Strongly recomend his proffessional service.

Getting in a car accident is terrifying. The thought of dealing with lawyers over it was even more terrifying for me. I was very hesitant at first because I was a 20 year old girl, knew nothing about lawyers, and have heard many lawyer horror stories. Working with Dan and his team put all my fears to rest. They made me feel comfortable, explained everything to me in detail, answered all my questions, kept me up to date on progress in my case, and respected all my choices. They were amazing and exceeded all my expectations. I hope, as anyone would, that I never get into another car accident, but if I did, Dan Glassman’s office would be my first call.

I sought out Patrick Perry after he was recommended to me by multiple other attorneys. I was looking for an attorney with an impeccable reputation who would advocate for what I wanted, and Patrick exceeded my already high expectations. You won't find a lawyer out there who is more skilled, smart, professional, humble, and easy to work with than Patrick. I recommend him to the fullest extent.

Shannon Miller and her team at the Miller Law Firm did an exceptional job arranging our estate. They were incredibly thorough, covering every possible detail that needed to be addressed. Throughout the process, Shannon and her team were professional, hard-working, and extremely knowledgeable, which gave us complete peace of mind. We always felt like we were in great hands and are so happy we made the decision to plan our estate with the Miller Law Firm. The entire process was smooth and stress-free. In addition to being an outstanding estate attorney, Shannon is also a phenomenal elder care attorney. We are now planning to have her handle my parents' estate as well. I have 100% confidence that she will take care of everything to ensure their affairs are in order and that they are well protected, especially as they age. I highly recommend Shannon Miller and her team to anyone in need of estate planning or elder care legal services.

Everyone I dealt with was top notch - knowledgeable, courteous, and efficient. Though what I needed was fairly straight-forward, I needed assistance ASAP, and their team made it happen. Most of all, I appreciated their kindness and empathy and the respect they gave my 93 year old mom. I recommend their explanatory videos as well.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gainesville, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
