I have not met Rick but he represented my son on some very serious charges, I was upset, mouthy, and not too trusting because of the legal system. Rick was professional and never took anything I said to him personal. I am very humbled and appreciative for everything he did for my family. There is NOTHING like a mother's love. Thank you so very much and plz forgive my over bearing attitude during that stressful time. Rick Rocks!

Mr. Mercure is very professional and knowledgeable for anyone seeking legal representation on criminal charges. I truly felt like a valued client and each time he followed up with me if I reached out to him by phone calls and/or emails always communicating to me within minutes. I was always kept up to date on all aspects of my case and I could have never received the sentence I did without his professional representation. He always managed to take the time to explain any intricate legal issues patiently with me. He is very honest and he will fight for you. I would highly recommend Mr. Mercure to anyone that needs a top notch attorney on any criminal charge. I will always feel that God blessed me when I found Mr. Mercure and I have already referred him to someone who asked me about an attorney that is the best. I will always continue to be so grateful for his incredible representation and please do not hesitate to waste your time on others who will not fight for you.

At one of the scariest times of my life, I found there was a light at the end of the tunnel. I was arrested for DUI in 2014 and I didn't really know what to do. I've never really ever had any serious legal issues, so I didn't fully understand the process. I began searching online for information, and by the grace of God, I stumbled across Richard Mercure's website. From the first day we met, during my consultation I felt really comfortable. Mr Mercure was very knowledgable, and really broke down EVERTHING for me so I understood all my options. From the first consultation, I felt there was hope and this wasn't a death sentence. Mr Mercure helped me through every facet of the process and in the end, my DUI charged was reduced to wreck less driving. My life has been restored and I would not have had this second chance if not for Richard Mercure. Know you're rights!!!! With that being said, I 100 percent recommend Richard Mercure!!! When you're lost and don't know exactly what your next step is, no better person to guide you than Richard Mercure!!

You could not find a better lawyer to work with in Ben's area of expertise. Ben is honest, straight forward, savvy, and a great steward with money. Needing a lawyer occurs at a low point for most individuals and families. You should not have to worry about great representation. Ben is an experienced lawyer that will help you navigate all the angles of a very complicated process to achieve the most optimal outcome. Sadly, we have had Ben represent us many times to the best outcomes possible given the situation. I cannot truly express how grateful we have been for Ben's counsel.

Ben Hutson is unfailingly professional, knowledgeable, efficient and kind. He is patient and committed to understanding the needs of each client and the unique challenges being faced. Being involved in a personal injury case following a traffic incident can be a disorienting and anxiety provoking situation for anyone - knowing that Mr. Hutson was available for a consultation and review In less than 24hr of initial contact was a great reassurance. He is exceptionally prompt in his responses for a consultation. Mr. Hutson conducts himself with integrity. Of note, he has a wonderful communication style and manner that places his clients at ease as he conducts his consultation.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gainesville, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
