Mr. Kalil handled my auto accident involving me and my daughter when this guy rear ended us at a red light without braking at all. I am glad I hired Mr. Kalil because the insurance company at first refused to pay for my medical bills and Mr. Kalil worked hard to change that. I wasn't trying to get rich, but my back injury was serious. My daughter had a concussion and other injuries. Mr. Kalil did an excellent job of getting the insurance company to pay the policy limits for both my injured daughter and myself. I would definitely hire him again.

When I think of the reasons that I would hire a lawyer there are many important factors that need to be weighed in that decision. The most important inquiry is the quality of representation that will be achieved by hiring this specific attorney because they are likely making life and death decisions for me. If not life or death, then hugely financial desicions. So, I want a lawyer who cares about me, who cares about me more than most lawyers care about their: mere "clients", mere "files", or mere "case numbers." I want my attorney to care about people and care about me as an individual person, a human being, a person who is relying completely on this attorney and trusting them with important life decisions. As you can see, I put my feeling and beliefs on the table but, I try to think before I make important decisions. The reality is this... Mr. Kalil, and his firm are able to provide you with some of the best legal representation in the city of Jacksonville and beyond. My case was extremely complicated and most attorneys did not want to take a look at it or were going to try to take too much money from my case upfront. So, I shopped around like any diligent person would. The main motivation behind the shopping around was not just about money it was more important that that. It was about finding attorneys who knew what they were doing, had been practicing mainly in the area that I needed help with, and attorneys who actually cared about me as a person. This unique, high customer satisfaction lawyer experience is what I found in the law office of John. S Kalil. I would highly recommend that if you are ever hurt by a product, a company, or someone's careless or recklessness behavior to seek this firm out. If someone physically hits you or a loved one they will stand up for you. In addition, they take on cases compliacted cases like class actions or tragic deaths, brutal car accidents, medical malpractice, and if they can not help with your specific case then they always know good, reliable, trustworthy lawyers that they can and will refer you to. They usually will give you several options because they understand that we as Americans like to have options and weight these options against one another and see what is the best decisions possible. Do not hesitate and at a bare minimum set up an appointment with them and I guarantee you, you will love meeting John and Michael. (The attorneys that work together) I have no doubt that you will not regret it. I absolutely did not. My case, brought close to $750,000 when they were only offering me $40,000 (this was just a greedy insurance company trying to take advantage of me.) But, Mr. Kalil's firm stood up for me and fought the good fight. The important thing is that this would not have happened without great representation and the best part about it is that they made feel like I was someone they truly cared about through the whole process. You really can't ask for much more than that... GREAT LAWYERS, GREAT PEOPLE, TRUSTWORTHY, HARD WORKINGS, AND ALWAYS WANT TO SEE RESULTS THAT HELP THE CLIENT.

I give Mr. Kalil and his office the highest of recommendations! They have been a blessing in my life. My case took 6 years from start to finish. I was the rare type of case that actually goes to court. Mr. Kalil counseled me from beginning to end with my best interest at mind. There were many things that I did not and could not understand but he has proven in more than a decade's worth of mentoring me that he is a trustworthy man. He is a top notch lawyer, who is honest and hard working. He will tell you the best legal advice possible giving you different routes which the law permits. He will call you as the case progresses, this does not mean every day. It is important to understand that things in the legal system take time. However, he is not a legal mill. He takes the personal care a client deserves and represent your case all they way to court which few law firms will do. Sometimes it is necessary to take a case to court because the insurance company of the other party or their representative is being greedy and does not want to make a reasonable offer for the injuries of the individual. This is the type of firm that you want handling all of your claims! Mr. Kalil fights for the legal rights of an individual against the corporations, insurance companies and "little persons bully" and without lawyers like him simple people like me would of never had an opportunity or the funding to fight the legal battle.

After having my vehicle totaled in an auto accident and sustaining neck injuries (never having had any other injuries), I decided to consult an attorney. Mr Kalil, at first meeting was very personable and appeared to bring his A game to the table. After well over a year and not even an offer on the table, he talked me into filing a lawsuit, in which I was not comfortable. I asked him to pull my medical records to show the adjuster that I had never had any injuries, not even illnesses, but he never did. Response from the office staff was little to none. The case would sit for months until I would call to inquire, then they would shuffle paperwork, have me sign a paper or two and again no word for months. Finally after two years, I was fed up and tired of going to the pill pushing doctor that he insisted I see, not my personal choice......I finally gave up and told him to take whatever they offered. After settling very low, they held back funds in case my personal health insurance had a claim, which they do not. They tell me weekly that they haven't heard anything, this has gone on for months. A friend had a very similar experience, except they did not hold funds to pay her health insurance, even though she used her personal insurance and it is the same as mine. If you want quality do not use Mr. Kalil.

I incorrectly posted a negative review for this lawyer, which I am hoping will be removed shortly. John has a heart and goes out of his way to make the client feel important and defended. I would recommend him to everyone. Thank you John - you are a lawyer I can trust.

I came to John Phillips office with little or no hope that I could prove my innocence or survive the alligations against me, I didn't think I would survive emotionally what myself and family were being put through. John along with Reid Hart listen to my story, they explained to me what they could do help me,and how they would go about helping me.My family and I felt so much better about my case and my chances of clearing my name after my conversation with John Phillips, and Ried Hart. I don't know if I would have ever gotten through this ordeal if a friend hadn't suggested that I go speak with John. Every motion they file every question they ask is all tied into getting to the truth, and giving you the best chance of victory I will never use another Law Firm other John Phillips Law firm for anything legal that might come up on my life again. Law firms like John Phillips and Lawyers like Reid Hart don't come like grapes in Bunches.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Jacksonville, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
