It is a rare occurrence for an individual, or a team, to impress me with their knowledge, diligence, service, and expertise, all at the same time. Therefore, I am obliged to commend the efforts of Heather Visali and the staff of the Lasky Law Office. With my divorce settled and just a custody agreement to iron out, I am far from a high priority client for the group, but you would never know it by the level of service and professionalism I receive from the group day after day. In this complex time in my life, my attorney, Heather, has a rare and enviable ability to offer solutions and guidance through this turbulent process for both my near and long term goals. The legal advice she provides for me isn’t mere opinion, but diagnosis and prescription. Over the past two years Heather has become much more than just my “lawyer,” she is my legal physician, who has kept me legally healthy through litigiously turbulent times which included an injunction, a divorce and custody battle. Heather is a legal specialist who goes above and beyond what any other lawyer would care to worry about. I don’t worry about my case, because Heather is doing it for me. Heather has made herself available on weekends, evenings, and even on her personal vacations; she truly cares about my case. Denise and Stephanie do not escape my accolades either. Their enthusiasm and genuine warmth when I call or come in is welcoming and comforting. Their approach to servicing my case is nothing short of what you received when you visited grandmother as a young child. They too, go above and beyond what their duties prescribe. Going so far as to stay late 30 minutes on a Friday just to help me by getting a notarized form from me that I needed for the filing of my case, and all without a complaint. It is gestures like those that have alleviated the pressure I was under on that very hectic day. They offer descriptive articulation to my questions, which proves very effective. In short, kudos to the Lasky Law Group: Heather, Denise, Stephanie, and Judy, for exceptional and proficient knowledge and service. They excel at what they do and through their diligence and dedication to their customers and our concerns, and thanks to their significant contribution, they enhance the Lasky Law brand like no marketing campaign or trial record could ever hope to achieve. Thank you for providing me with a team who demonstrates true commitment to their clients. Their diligence and dedication to our legal health is what makes Lasky Law Firm great.

I retained Heather to represent me in my divorce. I could not have asked for a better attorney. During our initial meeting, Heather was very attentive as I explained the history of my marriage. She was non-judgmental and asked pertinent questions so that she could get a good understanding of the history, my concerns and what I wanted from the divorce. She encouraged settlement of the divorce at Mediation, if possible, in lieu of trial, in an effort to save additional time, energy and expenses; but in no way totally surrender or short-change what I wanted or was willing to agree to in the divorce. She explained the possible outcomes, both good and not so good, if settled at Mediation or trial. We discussed possible terms of settlement prior to Mediation. She offered her insight through recommendations regarding reasonable terms, which I did find agreeable. On a couple of occasions, she explained to and received acceptance by the Court the opportunity for me to provide testimony over the phone for different hearings due to the fact that I was residing in CA at the time and the hearings occurred in FL. That certainly helped to save expenses. She was very responsive to my emails regarding questions/concerns that arose during this whole process, providing great advice and guidance. As far as I am concerned, I will be her biggest fan and loudest cheerleader.

I incorrectly posted a negative review for this lawyer, which I am hoping will be removed shortly. John has a heart and goes out of his way to make the client feel important and defended. I would recommend him to everyone. Thank you John - you are a lawyer I can trust.

I came to John Phillips office with little or no hope that I could prove my innocence or survive the alligations against me, I didn't think I would survive emotionally what myself and family were being put through. John along with Reid Hart listen to my story, they explained to me what they could do help me,and how they would go about helping me.My family and I felt so much better about my case and my chances of clearing my name after my conversation with John Phillips, and Ried Hart. I don't know if I would have ever gotten through this ordeal if a friend hadn't suggested that I go speak with John. Every motion they file every question they ask is all tied into getting to the truth, and giving you the best chance of victory I will never use another Law Firm other John Phillips Law firm for anything legal that might come up on my life again. Law firms like John Phillips and Lawyers like Reid Hart don't come like grapes in Bunches.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Jacksonville, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
