Pros
1
Effective legal representation with positive outcomes
“He was able to get BOTH of my criminal felony cases completely thrown out, and he was able to reduce my bond by $ 50,000.00 so I was able to bond out while he worked his magic.”
2
Strong communication and customer service
“One of the best lawyer I had this is my second one I like that he explained everything”
Cons
1
Lack of diligence and negligence in handling cases
“I hired Mr. Sonnenklar to represent me on a misdemeanor battery and a felony battery (both of which I beat myself without his help, probably a little due to the fact that Monroe County Court Judges are aware of his negligence and lack of diligence so they probably felt sorry for me.”
2
Unresponsive communication and failure to appear in court
“Mr. Jared Sonnenklar, after being paid, stopped returning my calls, voicemails, text, and emails for weeks. He was supposed to enter into my case on the first court date, and failed to deliver.”
3
Concerns about billing practices and retaining fees
“It seems that he likes to take money and claim quantum meruit And for those of you that don't know what that is , it simply means that the spend 10 minutes speaking with you and send you his Disney version of a retainer agreement. He gets to keep your money.”

Sam is one of the most honest attorneys we have ever met and his communication is excellent. Works extremely hard for his clients and absolutely fair with his fees. Cannot go wrong with using his legal counsel.

Called Garvin Injury Law after an auto accident. The insurance company of the driver that hit me was being uncooperative. Garvin Injury took the time to speak to me and explain the procedure. Would definitely use again if needed and will recommend. Thank you for speaking to me.

For the first time, I needed a lawyer, and I couldn’t ask for a better one. Leland Garvin is professional, attentive, and his staff is responsive and communicates well. Leland is also pleasant to work with, and personable, and I’d recommend him if you ever needed a lawyer. Terrific customer service.

I have nothing but praise for Hoffman, Larin & Agnetti. They all worked together on my accident case. Mr. Agnetti responded quickly when I called the firm from the hospital. We consulted frequently and he attended the mediation, Mr. Hoffman was there to support me during depositions and inquiries and Mr. Larin knew all about my case from the legal work behind the interviews and consultations. I could not have had better representation for this trauma and the obstacles I had to face going through the legal process. They understood the aftermath of what I was going through, they relieved the stress and carefully explained what happens. I cannot thank them enough for what they did for me, and I highly recommend them to anyone needing legal services. They were thoughtful, listened and acted in every possible way to get the best results for my case.

I am a home owner dealing with eviction of a friend- after calling every lawyer in KW, David Van Loon took time to give me more information than KWPD, MCSO and Clerk of Courts combined. I’ve already referred him x2 and will continue to do so. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Yanae Barroso Law. This lawyer will not only fight for you, guide you, support you through one of the most difficult times in your life, but also I believe that you will nit regret nor imagine anyone else standing by you the way she did for me. If you have children she will fight for the best Interest of your child. She is brilliantly educated in family law. I was astounded. Divorce is not an easy process in fact a very difficult time that can seem like a roller coaster. She made my ride much lighter. Have faith in her and let her guide you, let her fight for you, let her do her work because this lawyer is one indescribable human that not only my fights but uses her heart. And that is a rarity. Choose Barroso Law.

We inherited a property in the Keys. We live out of state and knew there were Florida state and Keys idiosyncrasies in property transfer and ownership. Bobby was able to answer all our questions in great detail. He also pointed a big issue we weren't even aware of and that could have caused us enormous problems if not addressed. We were very impressed and plan to use him for our future FL legal needs. Get a Keys-based lawyer if you have a Keys property!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Key West, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
