I hired Kris Robinson for a foreclosure case. I had already been represented by another attorney that did not do his job. We had received foreclosure judgement & sale date. When I hired Kris our case seemed hopeless. Kris worked tirelessly to undo what previous attorney let happen. In a short period of time our case was settled & our home was saved Kris has unbelievable legal knowledge & work ethic I don't believe you can find a better lawyer

I was always nervous to ever be around legal disputes. So at the age of 40 I finally needed legal services. I found Mr. Robinson and he made it very easy. He kept me out of harms way and kept it painless. I never knew the law, I never needed to, but he made me aware of my rights and how I was wronged. The other party involved was very savoy and had been through this a million times. Mr. Robinson told me just what they were doing and how they would try to scare people. It was a great day To watch them settle because we were right and everything they had told me were scare tactics. I feel like I have rights now. Mr. Robinson really looked out for me and assured me through the whole ordeal why things happen the way they do and what not. He never made me feel like I should be nervous about the whole thing. He handled me and my family with kids gloves and walked us through everything. So yes I would recommend him and his whole firm to anyone who needed these services. Everyone at his offices were helpful and really cared.

One of the smartest and most dependable people I have ever met. I am an attorney but Joel has handled several business related matters for me over the years. As the saying goes: He who represents himself has a fool for an attorney. He has impressed me with his foundational knowledge of the law, his creativity and common sense. He has acquired a wisdom reserved to persons much older than himself and his trustworthiness is beyond par. I cannot give him a higher recommendation.

Jennifer Biewend did an outstanding job representing me in my lawsuit. Jennifer was immediately running through the proper channels and collecting all the evidence she could. I found her to be an excellent communicator, diligent, persistent, kind, intelligent, knowledgeable, and very hard working. She was quick to return my phone calls and took time to talk with me about any questions or concerns that I had. She did a wonderful job with what we had to work with. I consider it a privilege to have retained Avera & Smith and Jennifer for my case. I would highly recommend her work to anyone who may have the opportunity to retain her services.

They took my case because they said it was" the right thing to do. " I didnt know what to expect from a case like this. You can read her diligence in this case in her exceptions to the court at Florida Department of Administrative Hearings by searching her name. This case was taken to the 1dca. We were the prevailing party. You can watch that court proceeding at 1dca and again, search her name. Ms. Sharon Proctor esq. The appealate attorneyand Jenna handled the case. What a team. I could say a lot of nice things about the two but the proof of her qualifications are in the case. Ive seen reviews that were simply a bunch of lies or perhaps the Attorneys write them to look impressive here. Dont believe everything you read. Review cases. If you want to win your case, hire her or anyone at Avera & Smith. You wont regret it. Jenna also handled my auto accident case and i have refered her to friends that seem to be very impressed with her also. Get with Attorneys from a winning team....get with the team at Avera & Smith. Avvo says to not be ugly to the losing side, so...heres a smile for ya :)

  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lake City, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
