Scott is the hardest working lawyer I have ever had. He has helped me with with a variety of business issues and with Real Estate litigation. He does his own research and there for leaves no stone unturned when searching for the truth. He is extremely intelligent and can go up against any great lawyer and win. I would recommend him highly.

I was previosuly with another attourney that was giving me wrong advice and not doing much. I reached out to MRS. Barris and she was very honest and professional from the begenning. She is defintely there for her clients and shows that she cares and wants the best for them. She made me feel confident going into hearings and made it less stressful. If there was a 10 star i would of put that, she has been a blessing to me and my family and always answers back in a timly manner with questions or concerns you may have. Defiently give her a chance to represent you she is well worth it and the result show.

My fiancé and I have been going through an EXTREMELY difficult custody battle with his ex-wife. It has been pretty much a nightmare and, unfortunately, the possibility of reaching a compromise has been impossible. Melissa and her paralegal, Norelle, have been a god send throughout this entire process. I can’t thank them both enough for their hard work on our behalf. They have been so understanding when things get tense and have helped alleviate so much anxiety and worry. They are truly amazing!

Amanda represented me for a moving violation and, from the start, I was willing to make the fastest deal I could. At the onset, she insisted that I was shooting too low and should would work to the bitter end, never give up, and make a much better arrangement than i had expected. And she DID. Of equal importance, the arranged and very reasonable fee would have been the same if she agreed to my concept or what she fought for in the end. That is, she made no extra money, and in fact she lost valuable time by insisting on continuing and fighting on my case. She stayed in constant contact, before and after each appearance and I never had to ping her for a status update. I, my family, and my friends (if they take my sage advise) will use her in all legal matters, routine and other.

Amanda , When hiring a attorney you usually think attorney will do mediocre work but not Amanda I never met a attorney that will stand in the gap, fight for you ,go to bat for you more harder and compassionate then Amanda. She is a real person that has real feelings, she really really care its not just about the money . At our first meeting with DCF she really know her stuff and she know how to approach without offending anyone, I was blown away by per knowledge and approach my kids are my life and my world I can feel she the same way, You can feel the love she have for your family and its so amazing that she cares in such a way she cares for strangers I will always be indebted to her. If you want a real attorney to fight for you Amanda is the one.

I'm very grateful for the time Amanda took on a Sunday to give me a professional consultation on my DCF dependency case. It's very hard to get in touch with attorneys that are experienced with DCF cases. She didn't rush and seemed to really care. I received some great tips to move past a couple roadblocks and was very real with me about what to expect. Much appreciated time. I'd recommend giving her a call/email if you're battling DCF.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lehigh Acres, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
