If you need an attorney to understand and have compassion, one that gets results he is your go-to. He has been a shark for me. The love he has for his clients is indescribable, you can tell he does it for a passion and not money. Thank you.

I want to express my great gratitude to the law firm. I want more than a recommendation, to attest and leave my testimony which ratifies the great honest, organized work with great empathy and kindness that the lawyer David and his work group did, starting with the paralegal Astrid Mendez who accompanied me in this process, who had all the patience and always spoke to me with transparency so that my custody case would happen in the best way. They did an impeccable job, my expectations were exceeded. They are very organized and fair with the case and with the client. I recommend them 100%. I will always give my best opinion about them. The human quality they had so that this very traumatic and complex process of dealing with custody, where you seek the well-being of your children in the midst of an adult confrontation, would happen in the most fair and impeccable way possible. God bless you and always thank you very much for taking my case and doing the best for my family. Attorney David is a high-class professional, Astrid, your work is exceptional as is the rest of your team, starting with the front desk.

I met with Attorney Veliz, for my relocation case with my son because my previous Attorney dropped the ball, and I was at a loss of what to do. First, not only did Attorney Veliz offer a consultation to review my case and to discuss how to best assist me. He was clear, honest and very insightful about the law. While Attorney Veliz made no promises about how the case would result, he felt that we had a good case, and explained his approach. Fast forward to our day in court, Attorney Veliz is a BEAST in the courtroom, that is where he shines. He takes no punches when he sees that the opposing sides argument is not valid, or has NO PROBLEM objecting when he needs to. Not to mention, Attorney Veliz does not waste your time or your money. When he tells you he will do something, HE DOES!!! The court room is where he shines and does his best work. I can honestly say, my case was not an easy one, because he had to "clean up" the residual from my previous Attorney that had that dropped the ball. WE WON THE CASE!!! Attorney Veliz approached my case with facts and had no problem interpreting the law to get me the results I needed and wanted. Attorney Veliz worked with me, educated, and guided me during all steps of the way, and was honest on what would work, and what may not work. If you are looking for a Divorce, Family Law, Relocation Attorney, SEEK OUT VELIZ/KATZ Law!!! He has very professional staff, (that also speaks Spanish which is a plus), he is honest, caring, and doesn't waste your time. Relocation cases are so hard to start with, but Attorney Veliz went into court with KNOWLEDGE, CONFIDENCE, and INTEGRITY, and that is why my case turned out favorable. I can't thank him, and his wonderful assistant Astrid enough for all of their help, and hard work they put forth on my case. Thank you Attorney Veliz for everything you did for me and my son!!!!

Mr DeCicco came recommended to me at a crucial point in a disability lawsuit for a family member. Upon contact he was thoroughly professional. I advised him I would take a day to consider the switch in attorneys and there was no pressure for an immediate decision. Once hired he was readily available and communication between us was excellent. Case was satisfactorily resolved

Glen was extremely professional and responsive to any questions I had regarding my foreclosure defense and assisted in allowing me to remain in my home for an additional two years until I was able to secure full time employment and another place to live. Glen also coordinated a settlement with my mortgage company in order to obtain reimbursement for my moving expenses related to securing employment over 1000 miles from my prior home in Florida. I would definitely recommend Glen for any legal issue as he assisted me formally with my foreclosure defense and settlement agreement and he also provided me with consultation on other legal issues where I decided not to have Glen represent me. I referred Glen to two of my friends and he was able to provide them with information that assisted them in determining the course of action that they would take.

I have litigated several cases against Mr. Meltz over the years and Chuck is one f the most professional and brightest attorneys with whom I have ever had the pleasure of litigating. Mr. Meltz has consistently put the best interests of his clients above his own financial interests time and time again. While many insurance defense attorneys generate paperwork designed primarily to bill the client, I have never seen Chuck Meltz file anything or send me anything that was not designed to do anything but flush out facts and issues helpful to the defense of the case. Not only is he a true professional, he is extremely smart in the handling the defense of litigation brought against his clients. I cannot recommend Mr. Meltz highly enough. A smart lawyer knows when to pick his fights and when to maintain professional decorum, and as I said, Chuck Meltz is a very smart lawyer.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Maitland, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
